Thanks to this channel, I started piano lessons at 60 years old. My brother started teaching me via zoom from South Africa in November 2020. We had 5 lessons (I am an absolutely beginner) and he needed to take a break that December for home renovations. We were going to resume lessons, on 20 January 2021. He passed away of the thing that was going around at the time, very unexpectedly. He was only 49. I could not go near a piano, it just made me cry so much. One year later, I found this channel and it touched my soul.
This moved me. I am sincerely sorry for your loss. Your love for your brother is apparent and it sounded like he was a wonderful human being and the world needs those. Keep strong♥
So sorry to hear that 😢....What a strange time we in the world went thru with " that thing ". Visit South Africa, get back to your lessons, live.... Watching from Jhb South Africa 🇿🇦
Okay, Rajiv… I know you’ve already written a book. But can you write a book? 😆I’m imagining a gorgeous reference book with all of these neat things that you do, like using someone’s specific method to clean rugs,… getting in the mood for fall… how to embrace the risk of using nice things that might break…. Etc etc. I think your philosophical approach to everyday life would make a fabulous book. 🤓💚☕️. Thank you for another beautiful, practical lesson in life. 💚
I love that idea! Yes, a book that guides through the year: How to enjoy the Seasons with Rajiv! I would buy it, since I will have forgotten all of this next year and I would need to look it up😅
It’s impossible to not gush with adoration for Rajiv. It’s embarrassing! But my soul is saved by this man! My faith in humanity is restored. The thoughts he conveys are a balm and I’m always near tears with gratitude watching each episode. It’s a tuff world. Rajiv brings us a slice of heaven…
I can't say it any better; to see someone live an entirely human life rather than a stilted, holographic projection is indeed a balm to our hope that the human spirit is still capable of living a day, an hour, a minute, second by second and inhabiting it. He's our guiding light!
@@quorincollins9965 And just imagine I had to watch Mr R... 3 times a day 5 days a week so I love this content because it helps us as adults to widen our minds and think outside the box ( world 🌎) because it's very insightful and calming for the world 🌎 we live in today and I love it!!!
Always so aware and thoughtful. Everyone, yes, please use and enjoy your beautiful things. Use items in creative and unintended ways. Rearrange your furniture if space permits, even between rooms. Have fun making changes.
Yes, I love the moment when I change the throw on my beloved green velvet wingback sofa (what a find!) from pale spring blue to a velvet jewelled red for winter. Just changing colour like this makes such a difference.
Rajiv I much prefer your new Kazak rug. I am a rug collector as well up here in Ottawa Ontario and I used to sell rugs and that’s a beauty. I know you have a storage space and you have your rugs rolled up but mice can get in and they love to burrow into rugs. Tyvek, the wrap that they use on houses is a breathable product. When mine are not in use I clean them as best I can, and then wrap them rolled up in Tyvek and seal it with tape. It doesn’t take much, but it keeps your rugs from getting munched. The larger rugs that I take to the local rug dealer does this for me if I’m not going to use it anytime soon. I had him do a very large serape and put it up in my garage in a storage space for eight years. I decided I should sell the rug got a hold of a dealer showed him a picture and said, would you buy the rug….. we made a deal for a price provided that when the rug was opened at his shop that it was in good condition. So after eight years of hot and cold, hot and cold weather when opened up, it smelled as fresh as a daisy and was beautiful.🇨🇦🙏
The 16 Roses for Mr Rajiv made me emotional for some reason, like, we all are only small moments in history but we make our marks in these little ways. Thanks Mr Rajiv and Miss Annie
I live in a 4 season area, and look forward to Fall, when I change out my Summer bedding: smooth cotton sheets, lightweight quilts, to the Fall/Winter bedding: flannel sheets, feather mattress and 2 down comforters in duvets. I relish the changes, and as I live in a simple old Victorian-era home, I have to move bedding seasonally from storage to my linen chest, and back again. The Victorians had very small closets, so it's a bit of work to move all these, but I do enjoy welcoming the items I'd forgotten about over the prior months. It all feels new again.
I saw your previous video on rug buying and washing at a flea market. Recently I came across a fantastic deal at a salvage place. I had to wash it in the bathtub 45 times before it came clean, but it was worth it! Looks beautiful in my kitchen.
I love how intentional you are with every little thing you acquire, take care of, and change. It's definitely inspired me to have less anxiety about accidentally becoming the cluttered home I grew up in. Your clear instructions are so so helpful to restore some of the antiques I've collected!
Again another video with so much care and wisdom.😊 You inspired me to pursue a life where everything has a meaning, using my nice things and to embrace life without living in fear. Truly, I mean it,💖💖💖
We also light candles regularly once it starts getting dark and dreary here in Hamburg (and fortunately also have a Kaminofen). Rajiv - it was serendipitous bumping into you in Munich last week, inspired me to pick up something small and beautiful before my flight back. All the best!!
That rug is glorious! I'm a knitter, and struggle to handwash, block, and dry my sweaters and socks and things, so it was very satisfying for me to watch you clean and restore that beautiful rug.
I have a summer quilt made by my grandma, given to me by my sister, who has passed. I replace it in the fall/winter comforter made by my other sister. I also change out my summer antique hats to my winter hats. I just love it. I also love your rugs!! I love your pierced tin. When you talk about how fostering about those little moments of meaningfulness throughout the day is kind of like making a deposit in a bank account, there's such a wonderful insight there. I think that when many of us think about our own happiness, we tend to over-focus on big shifts in our circumstances as a prerequisite. We daydream about a new job or house or wardrobe or trip or whatever and think, "if and when I have that, well, then I'll *really* be happy" or "then I'll *really* be able to start living the life I want." But just like building up a savings account - big deposits certainly don't hurt, but they just don't happen all that often. Love how you include smell into these seasonal changes. And the tin lamp and the carpet fall under touch as much as visual. Love how you include multiple senses. Always inspiring, thank you Rajiv.
I love seeing the layers you have added to your apartment since your HGTV home tour. I make the following changes to my apartment in the fall: linen drapes get switched to heavy velvet since my old windows are drafty, sheepskins and throws get added to my leather sofa and chair, and I also switch my bedding and add a faux fur throw at the end. Would love to see if/how you decorate for the holidays!
It warms my heart to find someone with taste in this world of unredeemed vulgarity. I have many rugs that I've collected over many years of travel (mostly North African and Iranian kilims and Zapotec rugs from Oaxaca, Mexico) and it never crossed my mind that I could change them and enjoy a different rug every season. Brilliant!
You are wonderful at expressing so many of the feelings we have but put aside for many reasons. Having any possession of a person we loved or love, that we can see and touch every day, matters. It matters a lot, and we take that strength with us throughout the day. It is part of the important stuff we don’t think about often enough.
Rajiv - I don't know if you've ever been to a Canadian suburb - but I grew up in one, and oh my God are they ever ugly! Anyway - I moved from a suburb to Montreal, and although I live in an art deco style apartment (and not a big suburban house) - it feels like I am living in Wonderland! I share your wonder for all things handmade, artisanal, and crafted! Anything old world or handmade. I love your channel, and I adore you!
I put my rugs out on the patio and hose them down then put soap on and gently scrub with a brush. Next I rinse them on with a hose on both sides and put them on saw horses to dry. Makes a nice clean rug.
I love that you show the reality of your space and changing your own space. It’s gotten old seeing design influencers who show the finished space (a candle without a wrap or a lamp already staged and plugged in, a rug change out - because *gasp* they’d never show themselves on the floor folding a rug) but you show personality and reality. If you’re ever in Taos, come visit! 😊
I'm totally getting one of those garlic braids! So cool. Just fyi, the site says start taking garlic from the top first :) "Twist off one bulb at a time, working from top to bottom - the bulbs at the bottom have the longest stems so they will stay fresh the longest (6-9 Months)"
The new rug is a treasure! I’m an antiques dealer and have ruined many a thing over the years and sometimes old textiles disintegrate simply from the weight of water on them. Thanks for sharing what you do 😊
Rajiv, the dearest soul. I can only imagine how many invitations you must decline-who wouldn’t want to be near the infectious, moment-to-moment magic you bring to every space you grace!
Love what you do. Another thing I love to do is to bring in red and yellow fall leaves, either as a dried bouquet or scattered around on tables. I knew someone who varnished fall leaves onto a dark-painted wall; it was absolutely stunning. Love bringing the outside and nature in!
I learn something new every time I watch your channel! Who knew that woven coverlets had such beautiful names? For me it’s my quilt collection. Not huge by any stretch but the names…Tumbler, Wedding Ring, Sunburst, Nine Patch, and others convey a time where things weren’t mass produced. Carefully thought out and purposefully made. I even have a quilt made by my daughter in her high school sewing class that she took photos and preserved them into a unique keepsake. Your friend’s lamp is exquisite! What a warm glow! I needed this episode. With all the catastrophic flooding we had here in western NC, I wasn’t in the mood to decorate for fall. But you’ve shown simple yet meaningful ways to decorate without looking like a Michael’s craft store exploded in our home! You are a treasure sweet soul! Thank you!🙌🏻🫶🏻😊
This "Miss Annie" is a Quilter & a 🧶 Knitter & LOVES 💕that beautiful woven coverlet!! Thanks, Rajiv! ALL of your inspiration is much needed at this time. P.S. Who IS that lady in the picture 🖼️ above your Bed? 🛏️
What a fun video. I usually get depressed at the sight of the first fallen leaf. The idea of embracing the season really appeals to me. Also, I love hearing about your creative friends.
It’s always nice to see your vlogs. The dish you showed us at abt. 13:00 I’ve always heard referred to as a tazza and I believe that size they was often used as master salt cellars. I think using them for candles is a great idea. Your rug cleaned up beautifully!
Kudos to you for putting in the work to clean that rug. Your arms must be very strong. I love candles as well and burn one every evening in my dining room to give a lovely scent throughout the downstairs areas. I also enjoy the ritual of making a nice bed and feeling of sliding into the sheets at night.
It is in the air today. I just washed all my windows and the screens and put up my winter curtains and a red silk duvet on the bed. And..a pull up bar(that isn’t necessarily seasonal, but it kind of is. Want to stay in shape this winter.)also stock up on beeswax pillars for the winter and i have dried hydrangeas too.😊
I have a jetted bathtub in my master bathroom. They have gone out of style in favor of the soaking tubs but I don’t want to get rid of mine because it is an excellent place to wash large hard to wash bed spreads, rugs etc.. I also use my husbands high pressure spray washer sometimes too outside on the driveway..
I have never found a nice rug like that at a thrift store or yard sale. I'm 61, in Phoenix. Still hunting. The night light is gorgeous. Your friend did a great job. "When I've declined all of the invitations"....... 😆 Its very easy to make beeswax candles. No candles if you keep birds though.
I would like to know this too. Rajiv said it's soaking, draining the dirty water, soaking again, draining (rinse and repeat!), then putting it somewhere to dry with the underside facing up. I would like to know the steps exactly. I have a beautiful rug that needs a really good clean!
Hello! Your apartment is just lovely. I particularly like the black doors with brass hardware and the strong colours you have used, also dark timber and really interesting paintings. The tin lamp is gorgeous. Handmade things are so special. But a few years ago I bought a little pretend stove/fireplace with a little glass door and those pretend flames (foil turning on a rod hidden behind). It's not real but it's still charming and it gives off the most lovely atmosphere and light in the autumn and winter. It has really changed the mood of my home in the colder months. I love it. You are right about light, it's very important, especially in winter. Have a cosy and safe winter and thanks for your video.
Even your storage unit looks staged and lovely. Your place is proof that small spaces can be elegant. Beautiful cursive handwriting by the way. Enjoyed the video.
Why are you such a pleasure to watch :) I stumbled across your channel literally like 6 days ago. It was your video about making coffee at home. Now Ive just been binge watching your channel since. I love it. Thank you for giving us your time.

When you talk about how fostering about those little moments of meaningfulness throughout the day is kind of like making a deposit in a bank account, there's such a wonderful insight there. I think that when many of us think about our own happiness, we tend to over-focus on big shifts in our circumstances as a prerequisite. We daydream about a new job or house or wardrobe or trip or whatever and think, "if and when I have that, well, then I'll *really* be happy" or "then I'll *really* be able to start living the life I want."
But just like building up a savings account - big deposits certainly don't hurt, but they just don't happen all that often. In the end it's all the little small deposits that will really make the difference. The metaphor extends further when we imagine what it might look like for us, when all those little happiness deposits start "compounding interest" and "paying dividends." I'm not normally very inspired by banking advice lol but there's such a kernel of wisdom in that analogy. Thanks Rajiv. :)

So true. I have several of my grandmother’s glass eggs. Each time I walk by them I think of my grandmother. They make me happy.
Loved this seasonal changes 🥰 I hope you're also doing a winter one too 😊🤍
It is in the air today. I just washed all my windows and the screens and put up my winter curtains and a red silk duvet on the bed. And..a pull up bar(that isn’t necessarily seasonal, but it kind of is. Want to stay in shape this winter.)also stock up on beeswax pillars for the winter and i have dried hydrangeas too.😊
Lizy's Pierced tin lamps. A thing of beauty. Trust Rajiv to cherish them.
Rajiv, your attention to detail is so beautiful! Almost spiritual! Watching from Jhb South Africa 🇿🇦
Ooooh the recycled tin lamp is stunning. And genius. Always find gems on your videos ❤
Marking the joints/sandhis of the seasons is so healthy and life/embracing! Thanks for letting us in on your shifts!
I love how many of your treasures are made by either you, or a dear friend! Thank you for sharing your interesting life with us. ❤
Thank you, Rajiv, for sharing the seasonal changes in your home❤️
I have never found a nice rug like that at a thrift store or yard sale. I'm 61, in Phoenix. Still hunting.
The night light is gorgeous. Your friend did a great job.
"When I've declined all of the invitations"....... 😆
Its very easy to make beeswax candles. No candles if you keep birds though.
You are a wonderful inspiration!
Please tell us more about how you cleaned your rug!!! Stunning carpet!
I love the Fall and the Holidays!🌻🍁🌾🍁🎄🎄
Wow, the colors in that coverlet match the colors in the painting above your bed perfectly.
Amazing job cleaning that rug!
Its beautiful! The colors just pop!
Happy Fall from Bonnie Scotland 🏴 ❤ xxx
Your videos are going to get me through the next four years. They make me so filled with joy!
I’m so glad I found your channel- you are so creative and lovely to watch - every year I grow my own herbs and make a mix that I use all year.
With all the craziness going on in the world, it’s nice to just focus on creating a cozy Fall home. 😊
