- It was 44 years ago that “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” premiered in theaters, and the fantasy film has delighted generations of moviegoers ever since. Six of the original cast members recently reunited in Orlando, and NBC’S Joe Fryer sat down with them as they reminisced.

When I was a kid and I was introduced to this movie my cousin only let me watch 30 minute intervals of it at a time and he would go from Willy Wonka to The wizard of Oz but never tell me about The wizard of Oz it was just Willy Wonka how much of a clusterfuck mind game is that?

I grew up with this film. As a child I was abused and in foster care and I always turned to this film to feel happiness. When I was 22 I took a huge overdose and whilst recovering I watched this to bring me back that smile. This film will always be incredibly close to my heart.
Edit; I forgot to say he was born in Llandaff in Cardiff where my family are from and I also lived in Grest Missenden where he wrote most of his best work in that gypsy caravan👍🏿👍🏿

+Orchid1933 Go to IMDb and look at the movie's trivia, the chocolate river was literally made from actual chocolate, cream, and water. If you listen in this video, the cast members never said it was "dirty water," they just said it was disgusting.

Cod_Slayer 33 Correct, they had used real chocolate and cream, but it was extremely watered down, and it quickly turned on set, which would explain why the cast said it was disgusting. The chocolate river actually started to stink up the set not long after they first started filming the scene.

R I P Denise Nickerson who passed away on 7/10/2019 at only, only 62 years old! sighhhh so sad and next month the family is expecting her Grandchild that she will never get to meet. We loved her in Willy Wonka and our hearts went out to her tragic character Amy Jennings in 1968 on the Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows where she played the characters Amy Jennings and then Nora Collins. Denise did a really good movie called The Neon Ceiling with Lee Grant and she was on the Kid's show The Electric Company whereon she also sang.

@@tiffanykujat522 That was a factor. She had a stroke and took all of her medications at once in an effort to take her life. That was when her son found her, rushed her to the hospital, and ultimately had her removed from life support. She was being kept alive artificially and was suffering.
So sad. She seemed sweet. Not sure why anyone would be cruel about her.
What a wonderful group of people. They are all grateful for their acting experience, something not often heard today. Willy Wonka is a true classic.

My guess is whoever looks the worst is the poorest. based on his age, the guy who played charlie looks great & he's a veterinarian, i don't know what the woman who played Veruca does, but she also looks good for her age. Update: just looked it up, she still a working actor in England. her last credits were from 2013, 2 years before this video was uploaded.

I'm like him, nostalgia is lame, I wouldn't want to do the same crap over again in my life, move on. I can tell he only put his hand up so he wouldn't be the only one not doing it so he wouldn't have to talk about his decision to keep his hand down.
He lives a half hour away from where I live and makes many appearances at my school and still does and says he doesn’t like the spot light and he probably wouldn’t do it all over again 🤷🏼♀️ he’s a great veterinarian tho, he’s definitely found his calling there.

It was a FANTASTIC film. And one that EVERY SINGLE CHILD alive on this earth must see at least once...!!! Thank you to the cast and especially Gene for giving me such great memories. I know Johnny Depp tried with Charlie and The Chocolate Factory but it just wasn't the same. Nothing could ever replace or duplicate this movie it's that much of a classic.
They weren't trying to replicate the original though. They were doing a closer-to-the-written-source concept.

This was my favorite movie when I was a kid. PS. For me, this is the ONLY Willy Wonka movie. That Johnny Depp "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" doesn't even come close.

I was never a big fan of Johnny Depp but I remember thinking, "How dare they remake Willy Wonka!" It's mostly because it was my favorite movie as a kid. In fact, when my mom got my sister both versions on DVD for Christmas, I told her that she better not give me both. She gave me the original Gene Wilder version.
It would have been great to see Olstrum continue in acting. Imagine all the roles he could have been in.

This was shot while Wilder was still alive, but when that guy says, "Let's send our very best to the great Gene Wilder" he points up, as if he's suggesting Wilder is up in heaven.

sadly, when someone gets diagnosed with serious Alzheimers, its a beginning to an end, I'm guessing they all knew that. I so hope they find a cure to the disease, nothing is more horrid

That’s a good idea, but not without Violet. So sad for losing her so young. She looks just so sickly in this.
The badly behaved kids were hysterical in the movie. Charlie was so authentic & likable in his role. I loved seeing this.
Why does the actress who played Violet look so much older than Julie Dawn Cole? Surely the girls were roughly the same age. Right now, she looks like Julie's great aunt!

+monalisasmile It looks to me like she has lost a great deal of weight, leaving his skin looking saggy/crinkled. It is actually fairly common in formerly obese individuals who lose a significant amount of weight. I am only guessing, though...

Veruca and Charlie aged well, they were the best looking kids from the start.
I got to meet Mr. Wilder before he passed when I was in the Florida Keys. He had a house there, and he would often ride his bike to the corner store called Angelo's that my mom worked at, and one day when I was headed there to get some cheese sticks I happened to catch him on his bike, and he stopped and we had a brief but VERY pleasant chat. My mom also worked on his boat once or twice as well and always had pleasant things to say about him. Dude was a legend and an absolute saint.
