  • Here's an ITV docu from 2003 about the kids from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory and what became of them in adulthood. This is not the docu that's included on DVD and Bluray versions of the film.
This docu is more substantial than the typical ATWF episode. I was quite surprised by it and regretted not taping it at the time. I was pleased to got hold of a copy many years later, so here it is.

The unknown actress who played the lady who found Veruca Salt's golden ticket might still be living, she was very young back then. :)

I have adored and enjoyed the books of Roald Dahl since childhood. But the man was an antisemetic, natzi sympathizer, racist.
I have decided to seperate the art from the artist and continue to enjoy the stories I loved years ago. I don't think i'll read them to my own child though. And I have no respect for any person on earth who hold such disgusting beliefs and values. Fuck him and Fuck anyone else who thinks like him.

Never saw anyone else as able to convey sarcasm, apathy, and acceptance of the inevitable in four short words. Loved him, miss him, can’t replace him. Loved this documentary, so sad the children never got any type of royalties, would have made life easier for them and their families. Glad they all turned out so good. Thanks for sharing.

I established a correspondence with film director Mel Stuart later in his life. I was looking for a documentary that he'd worked on in the 1970s called Life Goes to the Movies. He actually burned DVDs of the entire documentary at no cost to me and sent a nice note along with the DVDs (there were 3 of them, which I still have and cherish). I think he was flattered that anyone would remember him 35 or so years later. What a guy. We stayed in touch and he reminisced a bit about the Wonka experience. It was one of the highlights of his career.

Julie Dawn Cole’s (Veruca Salt’s) performance of I Want It All/Give it to Me is one of the most magnetic musical performances in film history. When you watch it again, notice how she just commands the scene flawlessly from beginning to end, at a time when scenes weren’t just 2 sec cuts and were more like stage performaces. My single favorite scene in the movie.

This was one of my favorite movies. When my daughter told me that my granddaughter was trying out for her middle school's play and I knew who she was going for.. Veruca Salt! And she got it. And, of course, did a great job. No prejudice here 🤪 There's must have been the other one since it had squirrels.. I hadn't seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory since I had loved Willie Wonka and don't watch remakes. And you are right about Julie's performance... 👍🏻

They turned out to be such great people. No bitter memories or regrets. It's wonderful that their acting experience and brief time in the spotlight did not blight their lives as has happened to many child performers. I always loved this story - the destitute but wholesome child is tested and rewarded for his patience and honesty, while the more privileged yet self-centered children are set aside. In real life the underprivileged tend to remain so and are not singled out for their merits.

For many years, she would not reveal her past as a child actress. I felt so bad for her, and then she had her stroke. I'm grateful her son and his wife took such good care of her right up to the end. Denise Nickerson had the most acting experience of all the children at the time when the film was made. Among other roles, she had played a character on Dark Shadows, a little girl named Amy Jennings whose older brother was a werewolf. She was also in the running for the part of Regan in "The Exorcist", but her parents were understandably appalled and quickly withdrew her from the project. The latest show that I can recall seeing her in was a 1974 Brady Bunch episode in which she played a girl named Pamela whom Peter Brady asked out on a date.

I watched every time this film came on before the curse of cable and VHS...lol Why a curse? I looked forward to watching it every year... counted down the days to any viewing. A time of no instant gratification. The whole film is a moral/ethics story without shoving it down your neck or even making it aware we're being taught to do the right thing. Gene Wilder was the icing on the cake.... as I scroll over a thousand channels day after day... if this film is on, I stop and watch.... Great Film!

I am with you Tiffany Sanchez Gene Wilder played a great iconic Willy Wonka. The child actors made this movie as well, the updated version just does not hold up at all. Johnny Depp at times over acts, I was once in theatre. So glad Tim Burton did not put him in my favorite film Big Fish.

Hollywood is really a family business. The only actors and actresses that truely make it for the most part are the ones with family that already have established careers such as David DeLuise who's father is Dom DeLuise. Hell look at the Coppola family. Their family know the right people or are in the proper position to give them a head start or have the money to support them.

I remember for the 23rd anniversary my 3rd grade teacher had us go to the store finding all candy with the wonka label for weeks we drew pictures of candies and different machines we built from boxes and paper towel tubes and milk crates and cartons he even made us golden tickets (5 for authenticity was specially printed) and left on our tables in chocolate bars. I wanted to be Veruka smh lol lbecause i wasnt living like she did but inside i felt i Should be. We made our own chocolate factory . We read the book and when we was done We watched the movie and came home with bags of chocolates and candies we all collected . thnk you Mr. Larry Lazaridus for being and awesome music and general teacher you truly made learning fun and tangible.

The 2005 Johnny Depp version isn’t a remake, it’s another adaptation of the BOOK, just like the 1971 version, it’s ALSO an adaptation. A lot of people forget to remember both versions of the film were based of the 1964 book…

    • @tammiepage6489

The remakes is for the new generation a lot of these kids are not gonna watch this one. In fact, a lot of the kids of this generation like actually liked the Johnny Depp version better cause I know some kids that were born later in the 2000s or whatever liked that like in 2005 and that they were born and they were really like the Johnny Depp one. They don’t like this version so my point is the remakes of for the newer generation a lot of the kids cause this movie is gonna eventually fade as generations grow. This movie is going to fade. Overtime is sad to say, but not all kids nowadays are gonna watch this version so you don’t sit there say no need for me remix who said you have to watch it and the giant version is not really remake because that one’s called Charlie and the chocolate factory so that was never supposed to be remake at all, but again everybody has different taste and is more for another generation. They make stuff like that for newer generations and there’s nothing wrong with that.
