Holy smokes....this is killer stuff. Have searched for and heard a lot of rare Kansas stuff - never heard this, or even a mention of it! Just fantastic. Thanks again for sharing Mark.
I had to listen to it twice, but starting at roughly the 47-second mark is a chord progression (which is repeated several times throughout the entire song) that Steve later used in his song "Get Too Far" from his Schemer-Dreamer album.
There’s an entire recording of the POKR rehearsal sessions, which I’m sure you know. There are 6 songs on my demo tape, but I’m pretty sure there are more that have not been released.
It sounds like the middle and the ending were used for point of know return ,and the intro was and the drum parts were maybe used for people of the south wind? It's a good demo.
Pretty fascinating how they only took that middle section and made 'Point of Know Return'. Too bad they just didn't use this song as a B Side instead of throwing it away. After listening to it and knowing the album well after all these years not sure if this song would have fit with the rest of the album so I guess that's why it wasn't ultimately included. But, very cool listen.
Prog and Southern boogie rock is a tricky thing to pull of but they did it...Yes and Lynard never sounded better. Interesting rehash of that one section. It sounds like POKR with elements of Bad Co and early Foreigner.
The most under appreciated progressive rock band of the seventies. Anything these guys produced was a masterpiece.

Exactly.
Badass.

I seem to notice a distinct riff used on Steve Walsh's song 'Get Too Far' from his 'Schemer-Dreamer' solo record
I am convinced....Eddie Jobsen had some level of interest in Kansas, and it all shows up on UK's debut album in 1978....

Thanks for sharing this, though the vocals are a little hard to make out. Do you happen to have a copy of the lyrics?
You're welcome. Sorry, don't have the lyrics.
Really sad Robby is gone.
