""STEVE WALSH WAS AT ONETIME HAD A TREMENDOUS-VOCAL-OPTIC-RANGE AND PRESENTATIION, ""HIS-SINGING STYLE WAS THEBEST AT ONETIME OR ANOTHER""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've seen this performance a few times but never commented, but I'll comment because it deserves it! Steve Walsh, as always bringing power and emotion in his voice! I love that in this performance he is not afraid to do runs and riffs and some improvisations and the tone bright and strong! 6:04 - 6:18. Look at these C5's! Powerful and beautiful.
6:07 - 6:09 - A mini runs and very precise, which fit perfectly in this version. Imagine if this mini run was in the studio version. It's so fast that it goes unnoticed.
Man, Steve's singing on this song was much better in live shows before the drugs started. It sounds like he's singing with more care and control in this compared to shows from 1978. Didn't help that he would always be out of breath from jumping around all night.
Steve Walsh was in incredible physical shape through 1980...his neck and arms were huge, his abs chiseled, all the running around was the way he performed...it wasn't drugs lol, this is the stupidest narrative and it's false... Steve many years later during the Whiskey shows in LA.... years later when he came back to the band after having left for Streets and Kansas Power and In the Spirit of Things with Steve Morse when his voice amazing ...that period he had a bad run with substance, but he shook it and regained form again...this" he sucked during 2 for the show and forevermore " due to Cocaine is just straight BOLLOCKS...what a load 😂
@@autk who said he sucked during Two for the show? He sounded incredible. But n my opinion he was pushing his voice much harder and putting more strain on it rather than a more purposeful and controlled style. It was also around the time his substance abuse started. He said he got in such good shape to feel better about his drug use and maintain this idea to himself that he was "healthy".
@@autkI want to clear up my doubts about this drastic change in Steve's voice. Which is really true, did he really start using substances in the 70s? Or not? Was this only more visible in the 90s? He was one of those typical singers with enviable vocals but vocally careless with drinks or smoking. When did he really start declining vocally? Because this subject always becomes a debate when it comes to Steve in some videos here about his performances in Kansas. And that his voice began to change, the timbre after his time on Streets in the 80s. And look that there is not even his vocal range on RUclips, imagine if there was, the debate would increase!
Excellent Linnea! Thanks for posting! Another great performance with a long keyboard intro from Kerry. I love the pic at 42 seconds. Did you catch the fact that this performance is the day after Leftoverture was certified Gold! Check out Robby's shirt in that Creem magazine photo shoot at 2:30.
I love these old recordings. It's amazing that this was captured from their heyday! I think Kansas has more historic video clips and recordings on RUclips than any other band!
7:03 - 7:06 It always gave me an impression that Steve made a whistle after the last solo after "No moooore" 👀. Or the guitar reverb was TOO LOUD. Or a whistle along with the guitar! If it's a whistle from Walsh, he made an E6 😮. His vocal range is relatively large!
fantastic version, picked up even bits of Lamplight Symphony before the Incomudro parts, and this COWS sounds the most like the studio recording to me! Especially Steve's voice...and the band plays it so fresh I could tell it was from the LO-POKR period. Another masterpiece from Linnea and Magix Maker!!!
God damn. This tears apart all other live versions for me. I wonder if opening with this song made it easier for Walsh? He hit high Cs regularly live but he always seemed to avoid them on this song in particular, prob from playing it as an encore.
Fantastiskt Linnea!
Bästa bandet i världshistorien. Tack :-)
This is Amazing. My Mom is from San Francisco and I grew up there till I was 4. It's amazing hearing things that were recorded back then - when my Mom was in here late Teens! This REALLY Captures the atmosphere of the Concert. So Cool! Were you actually at this Concert?
No unfortunately not, I'm only 27 so I wasn't even born. And I don't live in the US. I'm just a die hard Kansas fan who has uploaded a few bootleg tracks😊. But yes this clip is amazing especially since you can hear reactions from the people sitting close to the recording device. And also it's my favourite live version of this song altogether. Smokin!!!!
It's def one of the best live versions I've heard, and I've listened to so many I couldn't begin to tell you how many I've seen, except for this... I've listened to Steve's voice every day of my life since I was in high school and I never... that's right, I NEVER get tired of hearing the same songs... not even a little bit. Of course when I say I have listened to Steve's voice every day I am also including the things he has done in his many solo works. I only recently discovered a song he did for Moonstone Project on the Time To Take A Stand album...the song is called City of Lites, and man!!! That song is awesome!! I think that was done around 2006 which would be shortly after the Shadowman album of Steve's. ( I'm hooked on that one too 😊 ) There's just something in his voice, in everything he does, that never fails to reflect the passion and the depth that is always evident in everything he's ever done musically. I am thankful for the blessings I've found in music and it's healing, soothing powers, especially in the gifted skills so evident in Kansas, and even more so in Steve.
@AtTheWhiskey I'm so glad to hear that the music so loved by the people of your mom's and my generation is not falling to the wayside... I'm so glad to know that some of you find value in it. I don't have children so no grandchildren either, but I have learned to find comfort in other people's children. And I would bet lots of money on this, that your mom is extremely proud of you. I know I would be. Keep growing in understanding and wisdom, in my book you rock. And so does Linnea! 👍
Yeah, not saying Kansas ripped anybody off, but one has to wonder if the band Aid composers heard this and stored it away for future use. ;^) @@linneasaoirse

The real kansas.
OMG! This version
That killer "oo" vowel he sings so well.
VIDEOHEREBOB Yes!!!! This is my all time favourite version of Carry On, because of the way Steve sings it!
Linnea Skoglund I study Steve and Lou Gramm's vocal technique Linnea. I know we feel the same way about the passion and intensity they sing with.
6:10 - 6:13
This beautiful and well-connected phrasing with this other mini run.
Nothing equals the splendor! Wow, this must be the best live version out there, to bad the quality is’nt!

Awesome Linnea! Good job
This is scary good and sounds better than if they lifted the original studio recording right off the vinyl.

6:16 Steve broke his hand when he got into a fight with a couple of guys that stole their seats at a Supertramp Concert.
mojorisen74 Yes I know. There's quite a few pics of him with that cast. Poor thing lol.
Together with Freddie Mercury the best rock singer in the world!

And so does Linnea! 👍
Anybody else notice that the intro melody is the same as, "Do They Know It's Christmas"?
But 7 years prior to that song's release 👍🏼
