- Locating and replacing the stock relay flasher needed for LED bulb installation.
Other mods and how to info, please note that the additional power outlets in the rear hatch area were soldered to the main power leads going to the inverter. You don't want to have electrical problems in the future.
Please Note: These videos are not a "how to" rather, what I have done to my vehicles and are posted for entertainment only, I assume no responsibility for those who work on their vehicles after viewing my videos. Always refer to your Owner's Manual for proper procedures and torque values. Thanks for watching.
I just changed the flasher on my fj , yes you need to get on your back on the floor board and yes it’s located on the back of the fuse panel. But as I was struggling to remove the relay the back of the fuse box snapped off, as I said it snapped off did not break off. Once it snapped off I just slid it down towards the floor board removed the old flasher installed the new one slid the cover back up and snapped it back in place. That made it real easy to replace the flasher. Just snap off the back cover of the fuse box.
Awesome, wish I knew that before 🤣
After watching the video, took two minutes to complete. Due to having a manual transmission, it made it difficult to get back further to see up behind the fuse panel. To make a long story short, just reached my hand up and unplugged. Plugged new relay into plug and done.
Awesome! Great Job Keven.
Just a quick note pertaining to dropping the bulb inside light housing; I took some electrical tape and put some around between the bulb base and the socket to make sure it doesn't happen again!! 🤨
Thanks for your video!!
The back panel of the fuse box that it is mounted to pops off. Take a pick in the front where the terminals are and it will slide the old one off. Slide the new one on and plug it in. Then just snap the back panel back in place.
I just finished changing the relay on my FJ and you can use the other mounting point on the fuse box cover back. It just orients the relay in the opposite direction. I mounted mine back to the stock location and I can reach under the dash and adjust the speed of my flasher without having to pull the relay down. The relay I bought has a a knob to make adjustments.
Cool! That's good to know. I ended up using 2M double sided to add ir back to the back of the fuse panel.
If you use an amber bulb in the amber housing it will be much brighter.
Thanks Tony, I'll have to keep that in mind for the next time I replace them. However, I did use the Amber LED bulbs in my Vmax, what a difference!
thank you
You are welcome Bud, glad I could help.
Is this the Relay for the Hazard Lights too? Mine will not shut off. And no wear on the Internet. Do they have a solution.
It's the "flasher relay" which is for turn signals and hazards. If your old relay is giving you the "always on" indication, the relay is bad and should be replaced.
This LED Flasher Relay is for LED bulbs only, not a combination of LED and Incandescent or even LED bulbs with a built in load resistor.
Hope this helps.
@@tanktankerson1042 I ll give it a try. Can you just buy Flasher Relays at say Pep Boys? Where do you buy FJ Parts?
@@prophetseven728 You can try Pep Boys or some other Auto Parts store, I usually buy my parts via Amazon.
I went out in the garage last night and double checks what relay is activated when you put the flashers on and as expected, it is the same relay. Nice easy fix.
👍👍👍
I have bought this led relay and it's damaged after two years...
It's only been 8 months so far for me, so I'll keep an eye on it. Plus, you probably already know this, but if you use the LED Relay for mixed LED and Standard Bulbs, the load will be too high and it will burn out the relay. I replaced all bulbs in my FJ before installing the LED Flasher.
@@tanktankerson1042 actually I didn't know that and thanks for telling me...
My front LED turn signals have resistors from factory,my side fender turn signals(flowing style) have also resistors because you can also use them without any relay for LED and only my rear turn signals were regular LED.
(I have a Toyota Corolla hatchback in Europe)
@@K_N_44 It's the resistors that added the load sure enough. With the relay, you can add pure LED bulbs with no issues. My FJ is a real pain in the butt to change bulbs unless you have tiny little hands so installing the LEDs for long life was my driving choice. Thanks for writing back, I sure miss spending time over in Europe!
@@tanktankerson1042 nah on the Auris(Corolla hatchback) is very simple and easy to change bulbs...
Do you think i will have problems using 2 sets of LED with resistors (front and side fenders) using the stock Denso relay?
@@K_N_44 Replace all high load LED with resistors and standard incandescent bulbs bulbs before using a "low load" LED relay. This will eliminate any problems in the future and that "relay" should last for years.
If you use a stock relay. the LEDs with resistors or normal factory bulbs will be fine, I'm not sure about the "flash rate" though, if it will be normal or on the hyper-flash side.
