- The alt-rockers in Taking Back Sunday have been pumping out jams since 1999, and we were thrilled to meet up with them in our hometown of San Diego for a special episode of the Taylor Acoustic Sessions. The band sat down with their Taylor guitars to play raw unplugged versions of "Tidal Wave," and "You Can't Look Back," from their latest album. They also surprised us with the classic 2006 Billboard Hot 100 hit, "MakeDamnSure."

This performance is one of the best I've heard from them. Adam not straining to hit notes he's not even in the same stratosphere of hitting. It's a beautiful evolution.
Seeing this distorted my whole perception of time. You lose a lot of people along the way in this game of life. My brain is being flooded with so many memories, when we all were so young, never knowing how we'd learn to perfect the form of saying goodbye to each other. If I could just go back one more time, I'd take this session with me and hold them a little tighter, for a little longer.

Have always loved TBS! Covered a ton of their songs on my channel over the last 15 years. Mostly using a 2001 314CE. Would kill for a new guitar and to play a session like this.

I really wish and hope the next album will be similar to the song they have with The Maine "Love You a Little," it's the most passionate I've heard from Adam in a long time. I still think this band has at least one more amazing album in them. They just need to remember and remind the world why they were one of the most important bands of the 00s

It's so cool to see bands elaborate or take a song in a new "direction". The impact is different, the cadences, emphasis on phrases all make the song new in a way. I like it. Granted, you still want the song in original form, but art is fluid in a remarkable way.

Few years back we visited the Taylor factory in California. Awesome! First thing I noticed was employee's sitting around jamming on breaks and others playing ping pong. So cool. High skill jobs throughout. Shortly after I bought my 314CE. which can be seen many times on Burlington Bill here on you-tube. I am singer songwriter Bill Braun author of songs Sailing to Freedom which can be seen on my site and on episode 265 and 6 of Sailing into Freedom and 66 Mustang, the story of 50 plus years ago when Rosalie and I travelled from fort to fort while I trained troop. We had everything we owned in a 1966 Mustang. Love my Taylor. Washburn and Martin!

I like your Line-up!! As a (Punk Rock/Emo) Bass Player I think Matt R. Is a better Bass Player Than Shaun.. Thats only my opinion though. And Matt R. Had a MUCH better stage show or presence than Shaun.. For me the Fazi Era was sorta weird. Although there's NO Doubt Fazi is good. I saw them Live and Fazi had on like a big Boot Cast from like a broken foot and he still Rocked out the entire Show!! Fazi can definitely sing! I miss the Fred Era of TBS and I wish they'd bring Eddie Back!! I also think they should make Nathan C a Official Member of TBS.. 🤘

Not sure what the complaints are here. They both strain their voices playing these songs live. This acoustic session is about as peak as they are going to be in 2022. And it's pretty damn good considering how much they've thrashed their voices over the years.

Let’s see, I sense some petty jealousy and envy in the comments. I know nothing of this band as full disclosure. They did this live , apparently without auto tune and studio tricks. I did enjoy it though as it is stripped down ,in the moment music. Once again , I ask Taylor to list the exact Taylor models they are playing in the description.

The performance is good but I'd prefer them to play some originally acoustic songs instead of renditions of more rocky songs. Your own disaster and divine intervention would be good.

I will always love this band, but it is so frustrating when they improvise their melodies in the wrong key. They CAN sing… they just choose to sound bad, which is weird.

Acoustic renditions of songs where he normally has to belt. This is the way that makes the most sense guys. This shit slaps. Also singing in a lower octave or slightly changing melodies isn’t singing in “the wrong key” ya goober
Also always loved this band. But they the honestly cant sing. I mean obviously they are incredibly good at what they do. But they do hundreds of takes in the studio and tune their vocals perfectly. The records sound incredible.
When they are out of key it is not by choice. It’s sloppy vocal control and not really knowing where their range is and what’s about to come out of their mouths.
I’ve seen them several times. And the singing always sounds like hot garbage. You would be shocked what you can do to a voice in a recording studio.

@@anthonyevangelista1Yeah, no. Adam & John both know what they're doing at this point. It's only been 20+ years. It's a choice, and they often sing more like this when it's an acoustic song. I've heard them hit the notes beautifully live, acoustic and plugged. I think they just do this because fuck you, that's why.
I adore this band and all of their old stuff, but Adam just cannot sing. I'm sorry. I've seen them a few times and the vocals are always poor, but I can't believe they even released this video. Its painful 😣

John should have stayed in straylight run. Funny how the band really came up with Fred and then as soon as Fred leaves, back to “obscurity” they go. Freshman albums always do well, it tried, tested, and true. It’s the sophomore album that tells the story….and that story was Fred.
