I love how Optimus goes from “give me your face” and ripping the guy’s heart out and crushing it in front of his face to heroic “all life is sacred” about 2 minutes later
Honestly I’d love to see Bay’s deranged war criminal Optimus return to the franchise as a multiverse Shattered Glass villain Knightverse Optimus or another faithful adaptation has to defeat a broken, nihilistic murder machine version of himself and come to terms with his own views on the Transformers’ endless war

When he got into politics to propose a new future for his planet, he shortened it to Megatron. This isn't canon to the Bay films, but it's the better canon so who cares

I remember when I saw it in theater this 7 year old kid cried as his mom dragged him out after she loudly complained about all the sex jokes. That moment got a bigger laugh than any of the jokes in the movie
I love how Megatron gets one cheap shot in and is all "yOu'Re sO wEaK oPtImUs" despite Optimus having just spent several minutes bodying him and Starscream up and down the forest
Something to note about Optimus is how he gets progressively angrier at mankind in each movie, only to say he will always be dedicated to protect them by each ending.

Or a simple vocoder that you can download at home for free. Frank Welker essentially uses his Dr Claw voice for G1 Soundwave and the live action movies, but in G1 it was filtered through that vocoder. There was a mistake in one episode where he says "excellent ravage" in that Dr Claw voice.
genuinely boggles the mind they nabbed welker to do soundwave and didnt get him to do megatron until the very last movie LOL. same shit as starscream's voice actor. talented va doing their job, post production slaps a very awful distortion over the voice.
Which is funny because in one continuity the reason the seekers have the same body as Starscream is so he could have body doubles to trick the not-IRS because he doesn't pay taxes 💀
I like how Arcee is in the top five most favorite autobots in the series and even was planned to appear in the first movie, but here, her whole existence is a background character who gets murdered in cold blood
Right. I hated that. And her design alone could have helped her shine and stand out. Combine that with a good character personality and she would've been a fan favorite. Like Arcee form Transformers Prime.
Same goes for poor Elita-1 and Chroma. It's really upsetting to see them just get thrown away like they didn't even matter. People like them and they have just ignore them for no reason. At least now a days you see love for the fembots which pretty good.

Then you remember Micheal Bay saying his movies DON'T suck, he makes them for teenage boys!! Yet apparently knows NOTHING about females or reproduction 😂😂 God, that kills me!!😂😂 As if that's the questions that would be raised. No non transformers fan is going to this movie to discuss sex ed! Especially for an ALIEN species!!! They damn well wanna see there favorite characters though, and you know they know exactly who Arcee is! Or Elita-1 (Ariel if your ready for a deep cut 😁) or Chromia! The way these movies talk down to us, makes me wonder how they made the $$$ they did. I don't know why but the shot of Sentinel Prime screaming *"NO OPTIMUS!"* before his robo-brains are blown to Kingdom Come being used as a jump cut makes me laugh so hard I turn into an athsmatic iron lung patient every time. It's *indescribably* fucking funny.

This film did have some one-off bits of dialogue that are funny. Jetfire’s “My grandfather was a wheel, the *first* wheel! Do you know what he transformed into? *NOTHIIIIIING!* BUT HE DID SO WITH HONOUR! DIGNITY!” brings me so much joy. (Optimus saying “pull over” kinda has fun silly original cartoon vibes too? kinda?) Does this redeem the film? No lmao absolutely not.

Right up there with "There isn't a tighter shirt! _We checked!"_ There are legitimately good moments in this movie, to be sure. They're just drowning under an endless sea of sex jokes and incomprehensible CGI effects that look like Chaos Entities from beyond the Warp.
That might be the one funny joke, apart from maybe Jetfire's ramblings, but there are others things to like. I actually enjoyed some of the fights: Optimus Prime (conveniently by himself) vs. Megatron, Starscream, and Grindor...Soundwave sending Ravage to infiltrate Diego Garcia...the Contructicons and Scalpel resurrecting Megatron...the evil monologue between Megatron, Starscream, and The Fallen...one thing I liked was that they gave the Transformers more personality and more screentime, but at what cost? Oh well, the RotF game on Xbox was fun. Sideways was Bender, the Autobots got an F-35 named Breakaway, only the humans necessary to advance the plot were there...
Yeah, for me, this one had the most stupidest things with the worst being: -Bumblebee losing his voice again and acting like a pet dog -the ghetto twins -humping dogs -Sam's annoying mom -Devastator's balls -Transformers are born as younglings -Jetfire literally being an old man Transformer and was killed off to give Optimus a jetpack. My fave Transformer was done wrong but at least he died to be spared even more embarrassment. -

One thing I always thought was funny about these movies was how in each installment the already-kinda convoluted Transformers deep lore just keeps getting compounded more and more to get bigger and bigger stakes until it's a jumbled incomprehensible mess. Like finally arriving at Transformers 5 with Quintessa shouting about being Transformer-God in the back of my mind I thought "Hey, where does the Jesus Cube and Grandpa Decepticon factor into all this again? Weren't they supposed to be important in all of this?"
Ironically that's perfectly in spirit of the original G1 Lore "ahh the Transformers are just robots and the decepticons are war bots trying to fulfill their nature, no wait they have robot souls and there's this thing called the matrix of leadership and they were made by Primus, no wait they were made by this old guy called Omnicron who also made Unicron, NO WAIT"

So far as I'm aware/can remember, and it admittedly has been a very, very long time since I last really sat down and watched G1, Primus wasn't even so much as mentioned. Out of universe, he didn't even fucking exist yet. He was introduced in the comics, again, so far as I recall, and later introduced more broadly later on. Nor are sparks or such a G1 thing, either, they are Beast Wars. Unless you just mean that canon as a whole, but even then. The cartoon continuity, just on the face of it, not counting the obscure Japanese shit nobody cares about, wasn't exactly rocket science.
Quintessa doesn't do anything beyond disrespecting the original lore. How about Cybertron clearly being destroyed in the third movie and coming back as if nothing happened? Or humanity basically having done absolutely nothing by themselves, always babysitted by some transformer throughout history despite a trillion tons of evidence that it wasn't meant to be this way in the previous movies? Quintessa is such a tiny issue in my opinion.
@@papapalps2415 Primus doesn't appear by name but The Matrix of Leadership *somehow* comes about after the creator of Unicron gets betrayed by him, it just rises from his body and blasts off into space. The Matrix of Leadership itself was pulled from the comics and there it has an actual origin with Primus and all that Sparks were conceived for the G1 series before they decided to lift the Matrix from the comics, Optimus was going to give his "Life Spark" to Ultra Magnus in the Movie
If you want to know how bad this movie was, just know this: Despite none of them dying, all of the new characters introduced in this movie, from the new transformers, to the new humans, are never even so much as *mentioned* again, in any of the later movies.
Apparently both Skid and Mudflap were killed by Sentinel in comics and novels and this a trend that continued where the movie will introduce new characters that meet tragic fates but mostly happen off screen.

Dark of the Moon was my favorite, too! I remember watching it some much as a kid! I had lego, and Bionicles, and transformers, and I'd have all my toys brawl it out while the movie played, good times. I think it's a good movie. Nowhere near as crass and horny as Revenge of the Fallen, it's just a movie about super cool robots going to war, and violently murdering each other.
Fun fact: The reason Arcee, Elita-1, and Chomera were killed off was because Micheal Bay didn’t feel like explaining female Transformers (even though Hasbro themselves don’t have a good explanation for them)

Fun fact : I actually owned a Transformers book as a kid that contained abridged (and significantly toned down) versions of the first and second Bayformer movies. Since violent face ripping was “ToO sCAwY” for little tots, Optimus beat the Fallen by yeeting him into space. It also dropped the sun siphon pyramid plot, and instead made it seem like the Fallen was an eldritch god who was going to eat the Sun like a Big Mac. Ngl, that actually sounds better than the movie.
Oh shit that's actually interesting, novelizations of movies are usually based on the version of the script that was current at the time it was written, and not the final movie. Movie games did this too back when those were a thing [which is why WALL-E saves EVE in the game instead of the other way around], so some of that may be more mid-production script stuff than it is censorship

He can put together a good looking movie but he doesn't really give a crap about the story. I really want to see Bay team up with Gendy Tartakovsky. Gendy's silent story telling mixed with Bay's spectacular visuals can make for one epic movie
Bay's really more of a visual director over a story-based director. The best parts of his movies, with only a few shining exceptions, are his action sequences (before TLK that is).
I find it interesting how none of the characters ever dwell on the fact that although the AllSpark is supposed to be the sourced of all Transformer life, every life we ever see it or it's shards create is destructive, murderous, and evil. How did the Autobots come about if that's all it creates?
From what I remember, the cube is kinda like the one ring from LOTR, during the war Megatron poured his malice to the all spark, wishing all it creates is more decepticons, and when the autobots found out about it optimus yeeted the cube to space, that's how it got lost and fell to earth and megatron followed after it, but not before he made that deal with sentinel to rendezvous with him on earth and as we know, both of them had a "happy" landing
Didn't the first film make it clear that all modern day Earth technology was created through reverse engineering Megatron? That explains why whatever Earth technology that the AllSpark touches is suddenly a deception.

I have to confess that Revenge of the Fallen will always have a nostalgic place in my mind since my 12 year old self didn't understand story structure and just saw the big explosions, cool robots, and hot babes. Back when life was simple LoL.
I get that. Too many Cons are killed by humans in the series. I want more robot fighting, not humans fighting robots. One is transformers, the other is a SyFy scifi movie.
It really ruins the threat of the Transformers when some small squad of guys with ARs can fend them off. They should've made the military less op like they were in the first one.
Having a character named the Fallen was a terrible idea. Going into the film the first time, I always thought the "revenge of the fallen" were dead decepticons who had fallen in battle before and were getting resurrected to take their revenge.
If you think about it, it does kinda have multiple meanings. Could consider Megatron and Optimus as “Fallen” since they both die and come back to life.

There's one rewrite that would make the whole movie alot more cohesive. Make the search for the Matrix the main goal of the movie and completely remove the pyramid machine plot. The Matrix of Leadership itself is already one of the most powerful relics in Transformers lore. It gives it's wielder the knowledge and memories of everyone who ever wielded it before. So just, make the Fallen's plan about wanting to obtain it
The Prime series sort of provided a justification of why Earth is so important that could have been used in the movies: Earth is Unicron, the equal and opposite of Primus, the spirit of Cybertron.
There is actually a character in the Transformers IDW comics who wears the Decepticon logo as his face, being a character who believes so adamantly in the Decepticon’s cause.
Peter Cullen's voice acting was one of the highlights of the live action films, and he was one of the few main leads who actually put effort into his acting, along with the other voice actors.
I never saw this movie, so when you showed the Fallen, I was like, 'huh, this guy kinda looks like a bionicle'. Then a scene later you shower his head on top of Onua and I died 🤣

@ I mean, at 15:00 ish it shows the original Makuta, I am 100% positive at one point it showed a transformer head on Onua's body but I'm too lazy to track the timestamp down: he's literally THE ONLY bionicle to ever be built 'upside down' so his body shape is pretty easy to spot mate.
@@jeffbrownstainOnua's torso isn't upside down, Pohatu's is. It's because they wanted him to be able to have a kicking action for his articulation mechanism, so they just rotated the piece. This also makes it near-impossible for him to stand on his feet. Onua's unique feature is that his head is mounted lower and further forward to give him a kind of more squat posture.

This was the first midnight release I ever went to. Being a dumb teenager at the time I really enjoyed the first Transformers and my mom wanted to treat me to the sequel as a treat for good grades. I left the theater absolutely hating the movie, but because I didn’t want my mom to be upset I pretended to enjoy it around her. Years later at a party, the topic of bad movies came up in a conversation and I let my true feelings slip accidentally in front of her. She then started laughing and said, _“Really? All this time? I thought it was terrible and didn’t want hurt your feelings!”_ We still laugh about it from time to time. It was a good memory.
The fact that you went to see this film with your *mom* tells me everything I need to know. The fact it was a reward for good grades is the icing on the cake.

The first three movies will always have a place in my heart because of how epic they were when I was a kid, but I don’t think I can ever watch them again

As a kid I watched those three and loved them, didn't even get the naughty jokes or see the flaws with the movie (but my parents sure did). When I was older I watched AOE and TLK and I just hate them. They're trash. So, the first three are nostalgically good, but the last two are just bad.
One of the best things about Transformers is the variety of fun, interesting and well defined characters and the way their unique personalities played off of eachother. Stuff like this is what made Transformers so appealing in the first place and it's a shame that the Bayformers never really utilized this.

I had an unhealthy obsession with this movie. I loved it to death and even went so far as buying a Target-exclusive special edition DVD that had like 4 hours of behind-the-scenes features and I would watch those features over and over and over. And yet, I managed to forget about it and leave the franchise behind like a former cult member. This video brought back so many buried memories. God, I was a dumb child.
I mean, stuff's exploding. That's all you really need for entertainment back in the day. Plus it's a movie about cars transforming into robots, how cool's that?
One of the most “interesting” things about revenge of the fallen is that it is kind of responsible for the trend of each movie introducing deep meaningful events and lore that completely flip what you knew on its head. To then immediately be forgotten and irrelevant by the next along with earth always being the most important planet because reasons that are completely contradictory to the previous movie’s reason. The first movie introduces that they only came to earth to chase the allspark to save their home and species and that’s how megs got here and got frozen along with the decepticons being more established as they have been looking for the boss for a while, but are still fish out of water. Then revenge sets up that earth had cybertronians on it predating the autobot decepticon conflict in a long past ancient time. This further expands on the “our race and world are dying plot” as the scuttled decepticon ship shows the young transformers are effectively stillborn do to a lack of resources to keep themselves alive. And the big twist of megatron actually has a master directing him and instructing him on how to save his people although through brutal got mine means. By the end the decepticons are truly animals with their backs to the wall and are even more likely to resort to desperate and barbaric measures to survive. And this is all thrown out in dark of the moon as the plan is just bring the home world to earth because….reasons and the cons have a super secret mega army they just never bothered to use while it also turns out the decepticons had massive influence over human governments and influential people and never used that to find megatron when he was missing on earth while extremely powerful high ranking decepticons had been hiding on earth and just never helped in the previous fights while megatron character arc is basically being pissed that he is second fiddle now despite being fine with that previously. And this insane cycle of the transformers actually being super involved with earth and having super weapons hidden on it repeats again and again while everyone just forgets the previous movies events minus one or two parts. Had revenge of the fallen actually had a chance then we may have gotten a interesting universe of questing who’s actually right between the overly optimistic autobots who are kind of doomed on the path they are going or the destructive ends justify the means decepticons willing to do anything.
Bumblebee was never shown arriving on earth neither the other decepticons in TF1, by then after Megatron crashed over 10,000 years ago other cybertronians have been living on earth in secret
@@PoIarisPrime I believe the first movie suggest that the first confirmed sittings where from around the turn of the century and where supposed to have been early scouts. Making the time line that Megatron during the closing days of the war follows the allspark on his own, after a significant amount of time the allspark being on earth becomes known or at least assumed so scouts are sent out IE bumble bee and at least some of the first movie cons, significantly latter Sam post the glasses on eBay which gives both sides concrete info and prompts the main autobots to come and probably blackout given his alt mode is a recently destroyed helicopter. The hypothetical time line suggest that both sides had good reason to assume it was on earth, but never really moved on that knowledge as they had no concrete way to find what they where looking for or even where to really start.

I think Sentinel and Megatron made a plan with the pillars as a back up if he failed to get the allspark. I like the 2nd movie but if Megatron needed the Matrix to revive him, he could’ve just told the Fallen to go to the moon so it would’ve been The Fallen Megatron and Sentinel v Optimus who was just revived
Fun fact: Soundwave is voiced in both ROTF and the G1 cartoon by Frank Welker, who utilizes his Dr. Claw voice for both. The reason he sounds different in the movie is because the filmmakers just didn't vocode his performance like in the cartoon. I suppose this was to make him sound more "menacing", which seems like a moot point when the end result sounds like... well, _Dr. friggin' Claw._
The best thing to come out of Revenge of the Fallen were the toys. Say what you will about that film, those toys were the most well-designed transformer toys ever, not just because they looked like their film counterpart, but because they actually transformed. I had the Leader-class Optimus Prime and to this day, it still holds up

I was about to commence my daily ritual of yelling slurs at my worn workout sneakers, but after noticing this video went up, I no longer feel the need to, thank you Mr. PointlessHub, for helping me avoid a small psychotic breakdown.
Might I suggest taking those sneakers and going for a good run? Should help burn off some of the pent up stress and angst. Probably help boost your T levels too. Then have a relaxing Transformers movie marathon filled with violence and the male fantasy.
One thing I would rewrite for this movie…well, there are a lot of things that should be fundamentally rewritten, but one thing I would definitely change is the Fallen’s death scene. Like, _”Give me your face!”_ is a cool line and all, but it just doesn’t work in context. I think it would be better if the Fallen and Optimus fought on top of the pyramid, and then Optimus says “Time to live up to your name!” and then kicks him off the top and he falls and gets impaled on some machinery or something. Like, he’s The Fallen, and he wants to rise to power, so the most fitting death would be if he fell one last time. It’s not much, but it’s something, right?
It's still a bit of a cheesy one-liner (although this is still blockbuster shlock, so it fits), but the scene and line itself would have still worked infinitely better than Optimus unceremoniously going full on Mortal Kombat on the Fallen.

Cheesiness aside, I kind of agree but for different reasons. I think "give me your face" and the death scene itself are pretty brutal things for Optimus to do. I get he's angry or something, but he's still the good guy.

Fun fact: Mudflap and Skids were originally meant to have a 3rd brother who would've acted as a balance to their stereotypical attributes. He was scrapped about halfway through for no real reason. The twins were also supposed to appear in Dark Of The Moon, and they had scenes shot, but after the backlash from Revenge Of The Fallen, their scenes were cut and they were written out entirely.
@@r.a.fgattaiguy845 no it was actually before that. They were in the scene where all the autobots enter the nest base at the very back of the car line. After that they were never seen again. The loading up the ship scene only had 9 cars (Prime, Bee, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Que, Dino, and the Wreckers).
I think this movie more than the first one set the pace for the rest of these movies. Because, the first movie absolutely had the bad stuff the following movies are known for, but, it definitely had good moments too. Mikaela has an actual arc, the characters mostly like each other, etc. When the writers strike happened, this script went into flux, and became what it became. But, the movie still made a good heap of revenue. And it showed to the execs or producers or whoever, "Hey, we don't have to try nearly as hard on the scripts for these." And the rest is history.
Honestly Dark of the Moon is what Revenge of the Fallen should have been. It's serious moments mostly work, some of the one liners actually work, the twist villain (even though done to death in movies) worked too. Despite still not being a good movie, almost everything about "Daightem" works. It's really the peak of the whole franchise and should've ended right there.
I never liked the ending in it and when I found out they changed the ending to that mindless violence from the original ending. I can't agree with you.
I just realized Optimus and The Fallen don't actually interact the whole movie. In fact, Optimus has never even heard of him. As far as he's concerned, he just wakes up from a long nap and rips a dude's face and heart out.
That was Michael Bay’s one problem, “make everything look cool” “it’s gotta be cool looking” instead of developing a coherent story. Complete style over substance
Someone years ago did an analysis of Michael Bay. He cites the 1961 film adaptation of West Side Story as one of his biggest influences, because he more or less felt that every shot was incredibly dynamic and had a lot going on in it. Add to this his career beginning with commercials and music videos (both of which require you convey a lot in not a lot of time), combined with the pitfall of one's style becoming a caricature of itself, and it explains a LOT.
Here's my hot take: the Battle of Chicago in Dark of the Moon feels far more bleak, dangerous, and apocalyptic than the New York fight in Avengers. Both movies came out the same year with similar plots, and DotM managed to nail that tone a bit better than the other.
Agree. The first time I saw it I was mentally preparing myself for the first time that the good guys wouldn't come out on top. Seeing Sam, Epps and his team roll into a dystopian Chicago was just depressing
3 changes to make the movie better from what you said: Eliminate the opening monologue, have the reveal of the Fallen come later Use the Fallen's original design and rework his motive. Cut the stereotype robots.
Nice. A few more things: 1) Introduce Jetfire earlier to give him a proper redemption arc. 2) Make the Matrix of Leadership the main artifact instead of the Allspark shards. 3) Give the Arcee sisters a bigger role.
"Give me your face" Was a moment in cinematic history that certainly was one of the most written, voice acted, and synced to a computer generated truck's mouth moments of some time.
I was so excited to see it, but on the way to theater we saw two car accidents happen right in front of us. Then they announced the death of Michael Jackson on the radio. Despite all that, seeing this movie was the most heartbreaking thing that day.

Cody's voice in these videos... it is the equivalent of watching a a SyFy movie while eating cheese puffs in your sweatpants... There is just something so relaxing and low effort about it.
I remember watching The Last Knight, and was surprised to realize that that film actually made Revenge of the Fallen seem…slightly less bad. I never thought there would be a TF film that made me feel that way. Then again, The Last Knight has the kind of energy of a store employee who is just doing the bare minimum to get through the day and get paid.
Michael Bay is usually on top of his movies production wise but TLK is where he just didn't give a damn. The editing is atrocious, cutting from scene to scene haphazardly with no context, characters appearing out of nowhere only to disappear for the rest of the movie. When the movie was still in theatres there was talk of an extended cut and I'm not sure they followed through on that
Regardless of how bad rotf is, I cannot bring myself to hate it. This movie was my childhood and I still love it to this day. Also you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this video.
About the whole script thing, I did a little timeline made of pure speculation. If Transformers (2007) was green lit in 2003, a script should’ve been made and accepted in late ‘03 to early ‘04, and if production began from let’s guess ‘05 to ‘06 and that a sequel was planned, Revenge of the Fallen would’ve been written and approved in around early 2006. This is how it’s usually done in film/ animation studios when making a TV series. So yeah, the writers strike isn’t why the script sucks, it’s the copious amounts of Colombian Nose Candy that Michael Bay has at his house.
Bionicle as the thumbnail, Iron Man in the thumbnail clip and Transformers as the subject matter, what a roller coaster ride! All jokes aside, yep this movie ain't great. Still love it to death because nostalgia. Great video!
"Dark of the moon is my personal favorite" is such a non-hot-take that it has become the mythical "cold-take", a take so agreed upon yet acted as if it wasn't by everyone around it that adjacent hot-takes start loosing their flare.
The best thing about Transformers is that, everytime they go "there were transformers throughout history!" in every movie, I've long forgotten that they rementioned historical transformers in the previous movie, then forget *again* when robomurder starts. Robomurder is fucken rad.
Ironically, Soundwave in this IS voiced by his OG actor, Frank Welker (sans vocoder) but in Bumblebee he’s voiced by Jon Bailey (doing a stellar impression)
I remember seeing this at an early showing at the Navy Pier IMAX theatre as a kid. How in god's name did I like this as a kid? At least Dark of the Moon came out two years later, and that's the best one of the Bayformers.

When making the 3rd movie, Bay apologize for the 2nd one and said he tone down the quirky humor and have a full script. The 3rd was arguably one of the "better" ones, which isn't saying much. When he came back for the 4th movie, he said he stop caring what people think and they're still come to the theaters regardless. So that may explain the film series quality going up and down, doe it's not really high quality that much.
This vid made me finally realize the huge contrast between why the MCU works and the Transformers films don’t. It’s not just because of the bad writing and juvenile humor but mainly because tonally the Transfomers movies (aside from the first one) are just so incredibly mean spirited and heartless. I’m thankful that the filmmakers behind Bumblebee realized this.
I remember being so hyped when I saw the teaser poster at the theater and the super bowl teaser on RUclips. I thought this was better than the first one after I saw in theaters (I was 12, cut me some slack). Plus, we got New Divide by Linkin Park. Nuff said.
TBH I still get Nostalgic for this movie, yeah it's bad but it reminds me of simple times. As a kid I kind of like it better than the first one because of Optimus Prime uniting with Jetfire (like in Energon). Shame though if RoTF was just decent the trilogy would have been decent
Despite all of the obvious and absolutely terrible flaws ROTF possesses, I still enjoy it. Mostly just because of the action scenes. Also the toyline was amazing.
5:40 I remember someone explaining to me when I was younger that "Michael Bay writes all characters as insane psychopaths, but how they release their insanity is different from character to character." This works terrifically well for movies that deal with crime and violence, but it doesn't work when you are trying to have characters with noble values and goals. Transformers is SUPPOSED to have characters that are noble and willing to sacrifice themselves for others, but none of the characters actually reflect any moral values of any sorts. It creates a confusing skinsuit of a film franchise that feels like Buffalo Bill murdering hapless beloved characters and then clothing himself with them and then trying to fit in by saying something vaguely similar to what those characters might say if they were trying to make parole. Also, thank you for pointing out the connection to Bionicles. The Fallen always looked like a Bionicle, but then again the Bionicles you showed with lime-green pieces that break easily came out after this movie, so it could be a little bit of an inverse.
One of them is Tom Kenny. The other is Reno Wilson, who was fairly surprised at how upsetting people found his performance. Then he played Brains in the movies after that and everyone just kinda forgot he was involved..

Even though the movie sucks the moment in the woods where Optimus Prime says “You’ll never stop at one, I’ll take you all on” and absolutely destroys the opponent’s is so Epic, I’ve watched that one scene so many times and it never gets old.

Or a simple vocoder that you can download at home for free. Frank Welker essentially uses his Dr Claw voice for G1 Soundwave and the live action movies, but in G1 it was filtered through that vocoder. There was a mistake in one episode where he says "excellent ravage" in that Dr Claw voice.

That might be the one funny joke, apart from maybe Jetfire's ramblings, but there are others things to like. I actually enjoyed some of the fights: Optimus Prime (conveniently by himself) vs. Megatron, Starscream, and Grindor...Soundwave sending Ravage to infiltrate Diego Garcia...the Contructicons and Scalpel resurrecting Megatron...the evil monologue between Megatron, Starscream, and The Fallen...one thing I liked was that they gave the Transformers more personality and more screentime, but at what cost? Oh well, the RotF game on Xbox was fun. Sideways was Bender, the Autobots got an F-35 named Breakaway, only the humans necessary to advance the plot were there...
Dude the rotf game on ps3/xbox360 is underrated as FUCK! The sequence of events in the game make more sense than in the movie too.

Like finally arriving at Transformers 5 with Quintessa shouting about being Transformer-God in the back of my mind I thought "Hey, where does the Jesus Cube and Grandpa Decepticon factor into all this again? Weren't they supposed to be important in all of this?"

Sparks were conceived for the G1 series before they decided to lift the Matrix from the comics, Optimus was going to give his "Life Spark" to Ultra Magnus in the Movie

Despite none of them dying, all of the new characters introduced in this movie, from the new transformers, to the new humans, are never even so much as *mentioned* again, in any of the later movies.

Dark of the Moon was my favorite, too! I remember watching it some much as a kid! I had lego, and Bionicles, and transformers, and I'd have all my toys brawl it out while the movie played, good times. I think it's a good movie. Nowhere near as crass and horny as Revenge of the Fallen, it's just a movie about super cool robots going to war, and violently murdering each other.
Fun fact: The reason Arcee, Elita-1, and Chomera were killed off was because Micheal Bay didn’t feel like explaining female Transformers (even though Hasbro themselves don’t have a good explanation for them)

Fun fact : I actually owned a Transformers book as a kid that contained abridged (and significantly toned down) versions of the first and second Bayformer movies. Since violent face ripping was “ToO sCAwY” for little tots, Optimus beat the Fallen by yeeting him into space. It also dropped the sun siphon pyramid plot, and instead made it seem like the Fallen was an eldritch god who was going to eat the Sun like a Big Mac. Ngl, that actually sounds better than the movie.
Reminds me of a couple scenes from "Something about Kirby 64" where kirby just yeets stuff into the sun
Oh shit that's actually interesting, novelizations of movies are usually based on the version of the script that was current at the time it was written, and not the final movie. Movie games did this too back when those were a thing [which is why WALL-E saves EVE in the game instead of the other way around], so some of that may be more mid-production script stuff than it is censorship

He can put together a good looking movie but he doesn't really give a crap about the story. I really want to see Bay team up with Gendy Tartakovsky. Gendy's silent story telling mixed with Bay's spectacular visuals can make for one epic movie
Bay's really more of a visual director over a story-based director. The best parts of his movies, with only a few shining exceptions, are his action sequences (before TLK that is).
I find it interesting how none of the characters ever dwell on the fact that although the AllSpark is supposed to be the sourced of all Transformer life, every life we ever see it or it's shards create is destructive, murderous, and evil. How did the Autobots come about if that's all it creates?
From what I remember, the cube is kinda like the one ring from LOTR, during the war Megatron poured his malice to the all spark, wishing all it creates is more decepticons, and when the autobots found out about it optimus yeeted the cube to space, that's how it got lost and fell to earth and megatron followed after it, but not before he made that deal with sentinel to rendezvous with him on earth and as we know, both of them had a "happy" landing

I have to confess that Revenge of the Fallen will always have a nostalgic place in my mind since my 12 year old self didn't understand story structure and just saw the big explosions, cool robots, and hot babes. Back when life was simple LoL.

Having a character named the Fallen was a terrible idea. Going into the film the first time, I always thought the "revenge of the fallen" were dead decepticons who had fallen in battle before and were getting resurrected to take their revenge.
If you think about it, it does kinda have multiple meanings. Could consider Megatron and Optimus as “Fallen” since they both die and come back to life.

There's one rewrite that would make the whole movie alot more cohesive.
Make the search for the Matrix the main goal of the movie and completely remove the pyramid machine plot.
The Matrix of Leadership itself is already one of the most powerful relics in Transformers lore.
It gives it's wielder the knowledge and memories of everyone who ever wielded it before.
So just, make the Fallen's plan about wanting to obtain it
But Optimus destroying the star harvester gave us a huge feat for powerscaling and it made it even better plot wise too

The Prime series sort of provided a justification of why Earth is so important that could have been used in the movies: Earth is Unicron, the equal and opposite of Primus, the spirit of Cybertron.
Transformers Prime was what Bayformers wished it could be.

@@jeffbrownstainOnua's torso isn't upside down, Pohatu's is. It's because they wanted him to be able to have a kicking action for his articulation mechanism, so they just rotated the piece. This also makes it near-impossible for him to stand on his feet.
Onua's unique feature is that his head is mounted lower and further forward to give him a kind of more squat posture.

This was the first midnight release I ever went to. Being a dumb teenager at the time I really enjoyed the first Transformers and my mom wanted to treat me to the sequel as a treat for good grades. I left the theater absolutely hating the movie, but because I didn’t want my mom to be upset I pretended to enjoy it around her. Years later at a party, the topic of bad movies came up in a conversation and I let my true feelings slip accidentally in front of her. She then started laughing and said, _“Really? All this time? I thought it was terrible and didn’t want hurt your feelings!”_ We still laugh about it from time to time. It was a good memory.

As a kid I watched those three and loved them, didn't even get the naughty jokes or see the flaws with the movie (but my parents sure did).
When I was older I watched AOE and TLK and I just hate them. They're trash. So, the first three are nostalgically good, but the last two are just bad.

One of the best things about Transformers is the variety of fun, interesting and well defined characters and the way their unique personalities played off of eachother.
Stuff like this is what made Transformers so appealing in the first place and it's a shame that the Bayformers never really utilized this.
Tbf, I'm pretty sure selling toys was what made TF interesting in the first place. Like with GI Joe and pretty much every other cartoon in the 1980s.

I loved it to death and even went so far as buying a Target-exclusive special edition DVD that had like 4 hours of behind-the-scenes features and I would watch those features over and over and over. And yet, I managed to forget about it and leave the franchise behind like a former cult member. This video brought back so many buried memories.

One of the most “interesting” things about revenge of the fallen is that it is kind of responsible for the trend of each movie introducing deep meaningful events and lore that completely flip what you knew on its head. To then immediately be forgotten and irrelevant by the next along with earth always being the most important planet because reasons that are completely contradictory to the previous movie’s reason.
The first movie introduces that they only came to earth to chase the allspark to save their home and species and that’s how megs got here and got frozen along with the decepticons being more established as they have been looking for the boss for a while, but are still fish out of water. Then revenge sets up that earth had cybertronians on it predating the autobot decepticon conflict in a long past ancient time. This further expands on the “our race and world are dying plot” as the scuttled decepticon ship shows the young transformers are effectively stillborn do to a lack of resources to keep themselves alive. And the big twist of megatron actually has a master directing him and instructing him on how to save his people although through brutal got mine means. By the end the decepticons are truly animals with their backs to the wall and are even more likely to resort to desperate and barbaric measures to survive.
And this is all thrown out in dark of the moon as the plan is just bring the home world to earth because….reasons and the cons have a super secret mega army they just never bothered to use while it also turns out the decepticons had massive influence over human governments and influential people and never used that to find megatron when he was missing on earth while extremely powerful high ranking decepticons had been hiding on earth and just never helped in the previous fights while megatron character arc is basically being pissed that he is second fiddle now despite being fine with that previously. And this insane cycle of the transformers actually being super involved with earth and having super weapons hidden on it repeats again and again while everyone just forgets the previous movies events minus one or two parts.
Had revenge of the fallen actually had a chance then we may have gotten a interesting universe of questing who’s actually right between the overly optimistic autobots who are kind of doomed on the path they are going or the destructive ends justify the means decepticons willing to do anything.
Bumblebee was never shown arriving on earth neither the other decepticons in TF1, by then after Megatron crashed over 10,000 years ago other cybertronians have been living on earth in secret
@@PoIarisPrime I believe the first movie suggest that the first confirmed sittings where from around the turn of the century and where supposed to have been early scouts. Making the time line that Megatron during the closing days of the war follows the allspark on his own, after a significant amount of time the allspark being on earth becomes known or at least assumed so scouts are sent out IE bumble bee and at least some of the first movie cons, significantly latter Sam post the glasses on eBay which gives both sides concrete info and prompts the main autobots to come and probably blackout given his alt mode is a recently destroyed helicopter.
The hypothetical time line suggest that both sides had good reason to assume it was on earth, but never really moved on that knowledge as they had no concrete way to find what they where looking for or even where to really start.

I think Sentinel and Megatron made a plan with the pillars as a back up if he failed to get the allspark. I like the 2nd movie but if Megatron needed the Matrix to revive him, he could’ve just told the Fallen to go to the moon so it would’ve been The Fallen Megatron and Sentinel v Optimus who was just revived
Fun fact: Soundwave is voiced in both ROTF and the G1 cartoon by Frank Welker, who utilizes his Dr. Claw voice for both. The reason he sounds different in the movie is because the filmmakers just didn't vocode his performance like in the cartoon. I suppose this was to make him sound more "menacing", which seems like a moot point when the end result sounds like... well, _Dr. friggin' Claw._
That alone tell you how little the studio cares about the TF franchise.

The best thing to come out of Revenge of the Fallen were the toys. Say what you will about that film, those toys were the most well-designed transformer toys ever, not just because they looked like their film counterpart, but because they actually transformed. I had the Leader-class Optimus Prime and to this day, it still holds up

One thing I would rewrite for this movie…well, there are a lot of things that should be fundamentally rewritten, but one thing I would definitely change is the Fallen’s death scene. Like, _”Give me your face!”_ is a cool line and all, but it just doesn’t work in context. I think it would be better if the Fallen and Optimus fought on top of the pyramid, and then Optimus says “Time to live up to your name!” and then kicks him off the top and he falls and gets impaled on some machinery or something. Like, he’s The Fallen, and he wants to rise to power, so the most fitting death would be if he fell one last time. It’s not much, but it’s something, right?
It's still a bit of a cheesy one-liner (although this is still blockbuster shlock, so it fits), but the scene and line itself would have still worked infinitely better than Optimus unceremoniously going full on Mortal Kombat on the Fallen.

Cheesiness aside, I kind of agree but for different reasons. I think "give me your face" and the death scene itself are pretty brutal things for Optimus to do. I get he's angry or something, but he's still the good guy.

The twins were also supposed to appear in Dark Of The Moon, and they had scenes shot, but after the backlash from Revenge Of The Fallen, their scenes were cut and they were written out entirely.

I think this movie more than the first one set the pace for the rest of these movies. Because, the first movie absolutely had the bad stuff the following movies are known for, but, it definitely had good moments too. Mikaela has an actual arc, the characters mostly like each other, etc. When the writers strike happened, this script went into flux, and became what it became. But, the movie still made a good heap of revenue. And it showed to the execs or producers or whoever, "Hey, we don't have to try nearly as hard on the scripts for these." And the rest is history.
Honestly Dark of the Moon is what Revenge of the Fallen should have been.
It's serious moments mostly work, some of the one liners actually work, the twist villain (even though done to death in movies) worked too.
Despite still not being a good movie, almost everything about "Daightem" works. It's really the peak of the whole franchise and should've ended right there.

I just realized Optimus and The Fallen don't actually interact the whole movie. In fact, Optimus has never even heard of him. As far as he's concerned, he just wakes up from a long nap and rips a dude's face and heart out.
That was Michael Bay’s one problem, “make everything look cool” “it’s gotta be cool looking” instead of developing a coherent story. Complete style over substance
Someone years ago did an analysis of Michael Bay. He cites the 1961 film adaptation of West Side Story as one of his biggest influences, because he more or less felt that every shot was incredibly dynamic and had a lot going on in it. Add to this his career beginning with commercials and music videos (both of which require you convey a lot in not a lot of time), combined with the pitfall of one's style becoming a caricature of itself, and it explains a LOT.
Here's my hot take: the Battle of Chicago in Dark of the Moon feels far more bleak, dangerous, and apocalyptic than the New York fight in Avengers. Both movies came out the same year with similar plots, and DotM managed to nail that tone a bit better than the other.
Agree. The first time I saw it I was mentally preparing myself for the first time that the good guys wouldn't come out on top. Seeing Sam, Epps and his team roll into a dystopian Chicago was just depressing

Eliminate the opening monologue, have the reveal of the Fallen come later
Use the Fallen's original design and rework his motive.

"Give me your face" Was a moment in cinematic history that certainly was one of the most written, voice acted, and synced to a computer generated truck's mouth moments of some time.
I was so excited to see it, but on the way to theater we saw two car accidents happen right in front of us. Then they announced the death of Michael Jackson on the radio. Despite all that, seeing this movie was the most heartbreaking thing that day.

I remember watching The Last Knight, and was surprised to realize that that film actually made Revenge of the Fallen seem…slightly less bad. I never thought there would be a TF film that made me feel that way.
Then again, The Last Knight has the kind of energy of a store employee who is just doing the bare minimum to get through the day and get paid.
Michael Bay is usually on top of his movies production wise but TLK is where he just didn't give a damn. The editing is atrocious, cutting from scene to scene haphazardly with no context, characters appearing out of nowhere only to disappear for the rest of the movie. When the movie was still in theatres there was talk of an extended cut and I'm not sure they followed through on that
I always love a good Bionicle reference. The Fallen does look like Makuta.

About the whole script thing, I did a little timeline made of pure speculation. If Transformers (2007) was green lit in 2003, a script should’ve been made and accepted in late ‘03 to early ‘04, and if production began from let’s guess ‘05 to ‘06 and that a sequel was planned, Revenge of the Fallen would’ve been written and approved in around early 2006. This is how it’s usually done in film/ animation studios when making a TV series. So yeah, the writers strike isn’t why the script sucks, it’s the copious amounts of Colombian Nose Candy that Michael Bay has at his house.
Bionicle as the thumbnail, Iron Man in the thumbnail clip and Transformers as the subject matter, what a roller coaster ride! All jokes aside, yep this movie ain't great. Still love it to death because nostalgia. Great video!
"Dark of the moon is my personal favorite" is such a non-hot-take that it has become the mythical "cold-take", a take so agreed upon yet acted as if it wasn't by everyone around it that adjacent hot-takes start loosing their flare.

The best thing about Transformers is that, everytime they go "there were transformers throughout history!" in every movie, I've long forgotten that they rementioned historical transformers in the previous movie, then forget *again* when robomurder starts.

Ironically, Soundwave in this IS voiced by his OG actor, Frank Welker (sans vocoder) but in Bumblebee he’s voiced by Jon Bailey (doing a stellar impression)

I remember seeing this at an early showing at the Navy Pier IMAX theatre as a kid. How in god's name did I like this as a kid? At least Dark of the Moon came out two years later, and that's the best one of the Bayformers.

The Decepticons have taken over, the Autobots seemingly destroyed all while Sam, Epps and his crew are rolling into a dystopian Chicago with Iridescent by Linkin Park playing hauntingly in the background

When making the 3rd movie, Bay apologize for the 2nd one and said he tone down the quirky humor and have a full script. The 3rd was arguably one of the "better" ones, which isn't saying much. When he came back for the 4th movie, he said he stop caring what people think and they're still come to the theaters regardless. So that may explain the film series quality going up and down, doe it's not really high quality that much.

This vid made me finally realize the huge contrast between why the MCU works and the Transformers films don’t. It’s not just because of the bad writing and juvenile humor but mainly because tonally the Transfomers movies (aside from the first one) are just so incredibly mean spirited and heartless. I’m thankful that the filmmakers behind Bumblebee realized this.

I remember being so hyped when I saw the teaser poster at the theater and the super bowl teaser on RUclips. I thought this was better than the first one after I saw in theaters (I was 12, cut me some slack). Plus, we got New Divide by Linkin Park. Nuff said.
I was 23 and I thought it was better than the first.
TBH I still get Nostalgic for this movie, yeah it's bad but it reminds me of simple times. As a kid I kind of like it better than the first one because of Optimus Prime uniting with Jetfire (like in Energon). Shame though if RoTF was just decent the trilogy would have been decent

New Divide was easily my favorite song from all the movies, no contest. it made me into a Linkin Park fan at the time.
Despite all of the obvious and absolutely terrible flaws ROTF possesses, I still enjoy it. Mostly just because of the action scenes.
Also the toyline was amazing.

5:40 I remember someone explaining to me when I was younger that "Michael Bay writes all characters as insane psychopaths, but how they release their insanity is different from character to character." This works terrifically well for movies that deal with crime and violence, but it doesn't work when you are trying to have characters with noble values and goals.
Transformers is SUPPOSED to have characters that are noble and willing to sacrifice themselves for others, but none of the characters actually reflect any moral values of any sorts. It creates a confusing skinsuit of a film franchise that feels like Buffalo Bill murdering hapless beloved characters and then clothing himself with them and then trying to fit in by saying something vaguely similar to what those characters might say if they were trying to make parole.
Also, thank you for pointing out the connection to Bionicles. The Fallen always looked like a Bionicle, but then again the Bionicles you showed with lime-green pieces that break easily came out after this movie, so it could be a little bit of an inverse.
I loved the racially stereotypical robots
One of them is Tom Kenny.
The other is Reno Wilson, who was fairly surprised at how upsetting people found his performance. Then he played Brains in the movies after that and everyone just kinda forgot he was involved..

I loved all the bionicle references in this movie, I personally always thought as a child that the Fallen looked so out of place, plus like he didn't even have a transformation, you know like how TRANSFORMERS have?
Even though the movie sucks the moment in the woods where Optimus Prime says “You’ll never stop at one, I’ll take you all on” and absolutely destroys the opponent’s is so Epic, I’ve watched that one scene so many times and it never gets old.
