Late to the program but this definitely helps as I attempt to throw some Eaton Springs into my 74 Nova all while replacing my upper and lower ball joints, control arm, and tie rods. Thanks for the video!
Hi David Welch, I'm Gary Welsh, been watching your videos for the last 3.5 years and learned alot. I'm rebuilding a 66 Chevy 3/4 pickup.. again thank you
This video was so helpful. Harbor Freight carries the TieRod end popper and it made the job super easy given the rubber boots are protected in place compared to other tutorials using pickle forks :) ! Thanks BROTHER!
@@jpascua3824 It shouldn't need one unless you needed one prior to the job or if you accidentally rotated the tie rods. Also, if you are changing the springs to lower the truck, you could need to do an alignment to correct the camber.
Peter, were not aware of anyone making a frame kit to shorten a 73-87 chassis. After your previous question we did a little research and found no kits or templates online either. Our kit that we make for shortening the frame is specifically for the 1963-1972 chassis and will not work on anything later. You're going to have to be a pioneer and develop you own method on this one. Best of luck!
We use a cheap one from Harbor Freight. If we aren't going to use it a lot, we typically buy less expensive tools. You can find decent inexpensive ones on Amazon too.
We jack ours up from the bottom of the center cross-member and then add jack stands to the frame behind the front wheels. We've never had a problem with the frame being too high? Maybe the jack you are using is too small for the job?
Only one side? What year? Are they BROTHERS Springs? Is the height on both sides the same? Did you change the shocks too? What is the length of the shocks when fully collapsed?

@@thedailyvariety4407 Greg, it's not at all par for the course to have the springs rattle, we've lowered dozens of trucks here at the shop for RUclips and TV shows and we've NEVER had a set sit loosely in the pocket when the truck was on the ground. Now if you're saying the springs are loose when the truck is lifted with a jack, yeah, that will happen, but not once you drop it down. if they still rattle when dropped, then what is holding your truck up? the A-Arm Bumpers? It's not right, and you need to contact Western and get it fixed. EDIT: After a little research we found that Western makes a 4" spring set for the front. In our experience, 4" coil drop is too much for the C10 front end to accept, so it's possible they gave you a mixed set? One 4" spring mixed in a box with a 3" spring? Robert, any suggestion we make would need to start with a conversation about what you plan to do with the truck going forward.
