This is why the channel is the best teaching us how to replace parts and add new ones

Great video. And this is why I’ll just drop a grand on new control arms that already include installed bushings instead of screwing with any of this. 🤙

Great information, those polyurethane bushings really do make a huge difference in handling. What fun is there taking it to a shop? We’re truck and car guys!! Just dig in and do the work, you’ll save mon! And Dave is here to show you how!

Working on a 1987 G20 van here. Same stuff. First time messing with a control arm with the shafts in them.

Razor blade the “cap” off and use a #21 drill bit on the outer part of the rubber and just let the bit run all the way around between the rubber and the metal shell. 5-10 minutes per bushing with no smoke or mess.

Is it better to replace and put new bushings or just put new parts on? I have a 1977 c10

Rather than pry out the old rubber can you just melt the rubber out with a torch? That's what I did when I replaced the bushings on my race car and made quick work of it

Absolutely, you can do that, we've done it a few times. It works great for cleaning out the extra rubber left in the shell after the main rubber has been removed too!

Do you have to remove the shell if you are going with urethane? The kit I got is urethane but came with new shells , don't really want to take them out and install new shells

Not certain where you got that kit, but our kit requires you reuse the same shell. You don't need to remove them from the a-arm, you just gut them like in this video.

Can 73-87 control arms go on a 1970? I would really like to swap the metal on metal bushings for urethane.

I think I’m going to go with tubular control arms 😂
