  • How to Adjust Coilovers Ride Height
    This is a quick guide on how to adjust coilovers ride height. It is very easy to adjust ride height with coilovers. The main reason coilovers are installed is to have height adjustment. Coilover suspension allows you to adjust ride height to meet the goals of your car. They can be used to raise your car height up or lower your car down. If you have never done this, this is a great quick video on how to adjust coilovers. This video focuses on coilover ride height adjustment only. Adjusting preload is typically not needed for most coilover installs.

    Thanks! This is the BEST video I've seen about adjusting the ride height - and one of the few that shows that the casing and casing lock ring are key for actual height adjustments.
    Also, I do lighting work for various indie series/films, and I gotta say, I truly love your use of light and shadows to make the viewer's attention focus on exactly what's relevant (while still lighting enough of the scene to give them solid points of reference).

    *It's funny everyone watched the video and still confused 😂😂😂...Looky here people. The 1st ring is a preset preload it tightens clockwise ( left ) on the thread, the 2ND ring tightens counter clockwise (right ) to lock in the preload ring...Stay with me...THEY SHOULD NEVER BE BOTHERED WITH UNLESS REFURBISHING. The 3rd ring locks to the perch itself clockwise. So to lower you would need to unlock the 3rd ring, then turn the 1st clockwise ( your left ), to raise use the 2nd ring. When raising, the 3rd ring automatically goes up with the thread, when you reach your height you need to twist it back down to lock the perch.*

      Not sure who Liked my comment but if it helps anyone, I contacted BC Racing and they told me there's holes in the base and as long as you can see the threads through those holes, you're good. Hope this helps someone but I needed to know because my exhaust before installing BC racing coilovers was at 4" exactly from the ground. Since BC says you'll lose 1/2" to 1" of clearance, I was worried about my exhaust clearing speed bumps etc. And FYI, since I've installed the BC coilovers, I actually gained about 2-3" 🤣
      Just shows how bad my struts were! Now I'm sitting about 4-5" high in the wheel well, not shitting you, and I love it! Rear bumper sits like 6 or 7 inches from the ground and I've got that mean hot rod look 🤣

    Everyone gets this wrong. Bottom mount is used to set droop at ride height. You should have 2/3 bump and 1/3 droop at your desired height. Then you fit the spring and use the spring mount to set ride height. There’s no real preload as the springs are linear. Otherwise how would you corner weight the car? All you’re doing in the video is moving the bottom arm up or down relative to the top mount.

      I have the same question bc most people on another video say not to spin the first ring to lower…

    • @TomboysOnlyFool
      @TomboysOnlyFool 11 месяцев назад

      The lower ring is there as a stoper to keep the lower bracket portion in the same spot. If you spun the bottom one instead, id assume 3 things could possibly happen. First, nothing would happen because the lower bracket wouldn't be able to spin because its still stuck on the control arm, and the collar ring would keep the thread from moving down. Second, if it does spin it would result in the threaded portion going up inside the spring instead of down into the body of the bracket where it's supposed to go. Id assume this would result in less clearance for the spring, though i could be wrong on this since im not 100% sure. Lastly, and most likely , spinning it from the bottom ring could mess with the preload of the spring, because you're causing the change in height to occur at the top ring, which is where spring preload is measured at

    • @BrokecaR34JC
      @BrokecaR34JC Год назад +1

      the two rings you have are very likely spring height adjustment so the actual way that should be done, you can check out a brand like KW suspension or MCA suspension
      for more suspensions of similar type for install instructions. If you loosen the spring you are lowering the car, if you tightening spring and compress the spring,
      it will raise the height.
      Think of it like this, if you loosen the spring and the top and bottom seat locks arent touching the spring, when you put the car back on the ground it will compress the damper
      until the spring is touching the top and bottom seats again, compressing and holding the spring.
      The issue with this is potential odd spring movement so some cars run helper springs to keep the springs in place, or you can get some.

      You’ve been doing it right. Adjust the spring to set ride height and corner weight the car. The bottom mount is for droop and compression setting. Adjusting the bottom just pulls the lower arms further into the compression stroke of the damper.

    So to lower the coils losses the bottom ring and spin the top ring to the left or spin the bottom ring instead

      Spin bottom to the right for height, spin the top to the left to lower
