Hi Buddy. I just discovered your channel. I’m kind of thinking of transitioning from WW2 planes and tanks to space ships and androids using our $2 shops in Australia. This was inspirational, so I’m going to check out your other videos and see what you do. Thanks for this. ❤️
Most of the props created for shows like 'Stingray' and 'Thunderbirds' were created by Gerry Anderson's effects guys going shopping at Woolworths, and buying stuff with intriguing shapes, as well as thousands of Airfix model kits - from where the UK's 'Universal Greebly' comes - it's the support bracket from an Airfix Girder Bridge kit. It can be seen everywhere in Gerry Anderson shows. The ILM 'U.G.' comes from the Hasegawa Railway gun kit.
In the early days of CGI when shows like TNG needed to build some quick space ships for something like the Battle of Wolf 359, this is exactly what they'd do. They took anything lying around (hi-liter markers became warp nacelles, for example) and glue it to pieces of commercial Star Trek space ship model kits.
@@scottmantooth8785 , yeah, and even in an episode of "Reading Rainbow", they literally spent an entire episode explaining what was going on in the show.
I think out of all the ships you've made over the years, this is my favorite. I always find myself going back to watch this video again and again due to how perfectly you put all of these pieces together to make one seriously amazing form factor. Just had my own kind of moment where things just seemed to fit perfectly together making a ship for a film where an old squarish-shaped lotion bottle and a medicine bottle came together in a way that couldn't be more perfect with the medicine bottle becoming the cockpit area at the front connected to the lotion bottle at the neck. I got super excited and felt like I had to watch THIS video again before finishing my final sludge wash on it. Thanks, Anthony!
I really dig the end result, it's like something out of super cheesy 70s or early 80s science fiction. Gold is also a really underused color in sci-fi, I think. There was a small animated film in between Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick that had a really interesting Merc ship in it that was this huge art deco monstrosity that was white and gold and I think a bit of blue all on the outside. Looked like something really rich and unique.
My kids have loads of unused and broken plastic toys and guns which would have normally gone to the tip ! Now they'll be used for bits, bobs and spare parts for my builds :) Thanks for the inspiration.
First video I've ever seen and I don't know why but man this is entertaining. Finding a bunch of basically garbage and turning it into something awesome is just so much fun to watch, hope you keep doing stuff like this man!
Excellent work. I love the dry brushing technique and use that a lot - especially for creating fantasy 3D (real) landscapes in miniature. You can really bring rocks to a new level with multiple layers of dry brushing. Before I paint any plastic, I wash it with dishwashing soap and water get rid of the mold release compound. It is good to know there is another “out-the-box” modelmaker out there. My kindergarten teacher couldn’t get me to color inside the lines.
Love it, but the plane fuselages still looks like planes. Perhaps fill in the openings and gaps with something? Also needs more color. But fun and inspirational. :)
I loved building models as a kid. I'm 62, had some really cool original kits. The movie monsters, planes, cars, testors glue, uh oh..why didn't I think to do this?!! You can take credit my man, cuz now I'm gonna go full time crazy with this. I saw your supermarket kit bash video too. Great stuff.
When I was kid used to build my own vehicles using many non symetrical shapes, boxes, broken toys and more... and I never thought that feeling is back again, and I really want to do it again. Thank you sir!!!!
I know that filmmaking and cosplay are the main focus of these videos, but I can see how someone could easily apply these to creating science fiction book covers. I'm more of a photoshop guy than an arts and crafts guy, but these videos are just full of great ideas.
I don't know how I found this channel... but that was pretty awesome. I've always complained that the only model space ships you can get are "star trek" "star wars" and everything else that popular. I like generic designs you don't find in popular series.
I can't get enough of your videos! I love how you try new things and never put on a front like you're an expert who doesn't make mistakes. I'm headed to Dollar General today lol.
Baking Sosa drizzled onto wet crazy glue hardens instantly and is stronger. You can also fill grooves or create fillet welds between pieces with the baking soda, then apply ca glue overtop and then drizzle more baking soda. Creates perfect filler material and is stronger and dries faster. Yay, I do similar projects with scale Rc, so fun.
I used to do similar stuff as a kid growing up. People thought I was strange for being interested in creating stuff. I stopped for a while but this channel has me ready to get back into the world building from my imagination again!!!! I'm subscribing!
Kit bashing is one of my favorite ways to design and create my craft. I can go out and find specific pieces in mind that might not be quite so easily made and work them into what I need a create my own custom piece from something similar that already exists. Great video! Thanks for the upload!!!
This is next level. If I wrote this movie, would you make my ships? Or better yet, what do you have lying around and I'll create my film around your existing work.
The ship looks good but with a bit more time with the paint and just adding a few easy bits like wire straw tubing even some thick thread glued on. An array of nails guitar or piano strings become communication antenna maybe some smaller shuttle craft on the big wings would add a lot of interest.
First of your videos I'm seeing tx to YT recommend. This is pretty interesting. I like that you're prepared to take us all the way with this ship because that's really thorough.
You sir are delightful and infectious. Your tutorials always bring joy and a smile . oh yeah, and motivational! ok, excuse me while i run to the dollar store.....
EXCELLENT! You are applying Model Railroading Kit-Bashing to Sci-Fi and it's great! The dry-brushing technique works really well! Keep up the good work!
Whats the point in going to the dollar store if the materials are still gonna cost $35+ and you end up with way fewer and less complex parts to work with than if you just spent the eqivalent at the hobbie store model isle?
super glue kicker tip..you can get the same instant setting results without spending a lot of money by using baking soda...the chemical reaction is impressive and nearly instantaneous and rock hard afterwards...dad used this technique while building R/C airplanes and for gaping joists in the wings...you can find videos showing this reaction just by looking
i do understand that this is a very fast build and that given more time the results would be a bit more polished...even if the results already are rather amazing...and one of the reasons i've added a sub to this channel....the other being i'm a huge geek
Now that’s really neat !! Great concept, a set budget, and a finished product! From here I would use water slide decals and some detail painting to really bring the ship to life. But I have to admit, I love this video and a great inspiration!!
I can no longer resist, and because of your boundless enthusiasm I've had a glue gun delivered today and I'm going to start to make sci-fi! No doubt this will happen while sticking everything to everything else and burning my skin with hot glue :o)
Oh, there are things MUCH worse than hot glue. You don't know the glory of TRUE PAIN unless you've accidentally burned yourself with a soldering iron OR grabbed onto a hot holding ring for a pyrex beaker in Chemistry class! I've done both!
That's a cool idea and good video, I think one of the smaller planes could have been a shuttle, or a fighter, otherwise I think it came out good, maybe a Lil too much gold in the dusting, but that's just me, interesting idea to make a cluster of engines for the ship, good job
Wow, your dollar store is WAY better than mine. I'd need to spend like, $50 just to get enough items just for the greebles ALONE, and there are no toy ships large enough, so I've been collecting empty containers from work (ranch, mayo, hot sauce, etc), grabbing some junk I had lying around, and buying letter trays to build the general profile of a ship, and using the smaller, crappier toys I managed to grab to make the greebles, along with some poster board to build some of my own custom greebles when I run out (and some straws and wires for fuel lines and such).
@@createscifi I don't think using mainly the toys themselves is a bad idea, personally. If you want it to look better though, I humbly suggest creating not only greebles, but entirely original pieces of a main body out of layers of posterboard (and also popsicle sticks, small wooden dowels, letter trays, cut up clothing hampers for windows, plastic or metal wastebins, for some cool or eerie designs, etc), which can all be found at the dollar store. And if you can find any modeling clay, then you're REALLY looking to make something awesome. Then you can merge the toy pieces with your own ship design. There's this video I found where a guy makes a really awesome looking ship from scratch using only plastics and detailed paint work. I think something similar could be achieved with varying thicknesses of $1 posterboard and bits of junk: ruclips.net/video/Ice7izxlIPM/видео.html
Just came across this video and I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for sharing your incredible ideas. I still can believe how amazing it looks. Had to subscribe.
A good alternative to CA & hot glue could be two part epoxy glue, it:'s very strong and can be used as a sort of putty, plus some plastics didn't works well with hot glue. But the ideas are really good!
Nice build, one addition, dont use superglue if you want to bind 2 plastic items. For that case you got plastic glue, which melts it together for a much stronger bond.
Wow u always do a great job. Been using some of your painting techniques on dollar store guns. As always great job and looking forward to more content.
Your excitement is so refreshing and I love it. I never look at cheap toys the same way after watching your videos.
thx MG

if i remember correctly in one episode of Next Gen disposable razor handles were used as the basis for a shuttle pods engines/nacelles
@@scottmantooth8785 , yeah, and even in an episode of "Reading Rainbow", they literally spent an entire episode explaining what was going on in the show.
The highlighters were torpedo pods on the New Orleans Class.
The great thing about these dollar store toys is that they come apart really easily, you got that right!

That's a great-looking starship for sure. :)
Impressive finish! Looks about ready for the animation studio. The gold color was the perfect choice.
