Without a doubt, the best video on RUclips. Professional, Comprehensive, and BEAUTIFUL. Thank you for sharing years of experience in this selfless video. KUDOS.
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! You're comments have me blushing! Must be all the years I spent in education! I think it is important to share our experiences with each other as we all come out much better on the other end! Happy stitching!
This is a fantastic tutorial and you have taught me quite a few things to help me. Gotta say your little samples are just so beautiful. I'm going to see if you have any other tutorials and if so bugger the housework im getting a pot of tea and im going to be busy for quite some time. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks. Best video I've seen
I’m a quilter, just starting to do wool appliqué. I learned so much from just this video, I’m excited to find others and get started stitching! Your voice and pace are a pleasure. Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent.
Thank you for taking the time to view and for your kind comment. It makes me smile if my information is helpful to others (guess that is the teacher in me!) Happy stitching!
Your work is beautiful! You are a wonderful teacher…clear, concise and creative! I have found in whatever you want to learn that you have to be consistent in practicing and just enjoy it. I am deaf but I read captions. The captioning on this video is excellent. I have self taught myself many things thanks to people like you who share their inspiration and talents on RUclips. Thank you!
Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to comment and share your kind thoughts. And I am delighted to hear that RUclips is captioning my videos so that you can 'read' them. Interestingly, in the past half dozen years I have had difficulty with my right ear which they treat by putting in tubes so I can hear quite normally. However, when the tube falls out, my hearing becomes like I am underwater. Lucky for me I can get another tube for a fix, but it has certainly given me much eye opening thought as to how those of you and others with hearing difficulties deal with the situation. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you for taking the time to view and your kind comment. It makes me smile if my information is helpful to others (guess that is the teacher in me!) Happy stitching!
What a wonderfully informative and enjoyable video! Not only do you share a vast amount of worthwhile instruction, but it's fun to watch and your work is absolutely beautiful to see. Thank you for sharing, Mary!
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Not sure about the genius part - I have family that might dispute that! lol!! Happy stitching!
Mary thank you for a great tutorial. I am just getting started with wool applique and was very intimidated about doing straight stitching. You have solved the problem and I am now going full speed ahead with my projects with confidence!
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. It makes me smile if my information is helpful to others (guess that is the teacher in me!) But always remember, learn a lot, choose what suits your purpose, creative intent and budget and enjoy the journey! Happy stitching
Such wonderful tips; this old gal beginner is indeed grateful. Much thanks, have subscribed and will be watching everything, probably multiple times. ❤
Thankyou for this helpful video….. I have been sewing since I was 5 yrs old, learned at my mother’s knee. 76 yesterday and I can tell anyone reading this that “you’re never too old to learn something new’. Who knew about marking your thumb like that? Neat idea:). Glad I have found your channel , thanks and good wishes from Belfast NI.
Hello from across the blue ocean! Thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment. I think our grandmothers and even mothers, had a wealth of knowledge. So glad my mom put up with my sometimes less than enthusiastic attitude in order to share her sewing know how with me and like yourself she started me very young, around 4 years! I wish she were around today so I could share what I am doing. While she sewed beautifully, when I was 13 I was sent to learn to tat from a older woman in her home town and then came home to teach her. She was an incredible tatter! Lucky us for the moms we had! Enjoy your stitching!
Thank you for taking the time to view and your kind comment. It makes me smile if my information is helpful to others (guess that is the teacher in me!) Practice will always help, but always remember that perfection is highly over rated - learn a lot, choose what works for you and enjoy the journey. Life is too short to live to satisfy others standards! Happy stitching!
omg!! I remember my mom teaching me the blanket stitch using the width of my finger nail...of course I was about 4-5 years old at the time and my fingers were alot smaller!!! My mom was a seamstress back in the 60's and would sew dresses (mostly brides dresses) in her store that was in the basement of our house. I spent all my time there by her side until I started school at 6 years old and that was only half days! Retired for many years, I have dabbled in many different artwork and recently found slow stitching and also found my old never finished embroideries and petit point from the 70's. So glad your video found its way into my feed although 2 years late! Love your way of teaching and your little tricks. Your work is absolutely beautiful!!! For sure I will like and subscribe and will venture to visit your past videos. Thank you!
AWWW gosh! Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment. It is always rewarding for me to know that the information in my videos is helpful to others and even better if it sparks that little bit of creativity in your soul. Seems the days are gone when young kids learned to stitch so early. I have a piece in my scrap book from when I was 4..even my older brother was given embroidery to do (maybe when we were bored? lol! He was pretty good at it!) All my clothes were hand sewn - often from hand me down clothing - as were the household items such as kitchen curtains etc. My mom was meticulous seamstress and had a good bit of knowledge about tailoring, etc. I did not realize the value of what she taught me till I was almost 30. When you're thirteen all you want is a dress to wear to school and you don't really care how great your sewing is! LOL! I don't know when my mom found the time to sew...but she never had the time to quilt. She did knit and somewhere in her 50's, she sent me to her home town to study tatting with an older woman there and come home to then teach her ....which I did. She was an exquisite tatter. So certainly get out those older projects and enjoy working on them...It will be the greatest way for you to be her sewing legacy! BTW - my 45 year old son just completed his third cross stitched Christmas stocking for his ' almost' nephews (he is engaged to his fiance!) Neither of my daughters sew although one does cross stitch. Perhaps stitching genes do get passed on!!
Hi Mary, I just found you today and am so thankful! Please continue to post these very helpful videos. I'm not new to working with a variety of hardworking styles but I am new to wool applique so all your videos are just what I need. Thank you!
Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to comment. It is always good to hear my experiences are helpful to others. Take all your other working knowledge with you as you head out on your wool journey....be creative and use what works for you. And always, always, have fun!
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Happy stitching!
I bought a package of beautiful wool squares about 10 years ago, wanting to try this technique. When we travel I like to hand sew in the car, I love your tour tutorial, I can’t wait to do this.
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Those beautfiul wool squares can be quite addicting. And I too have spent many happy hours when traveling doing hand work in the car. Happy stitching!
Oh thank you ....not only for viewing but for taking the time to comment. In this world today where we often connect only through media, it is always so nice to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to someone else - especially when that someone else is another 'veteran' sewist!! Stitch on!!
Your tips were so helpful - I learned several brand new approaches (to me) that will make my stitches more attractive, and my new hobby even more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing them!😊
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Happy stitching!
Thank you Lisa, for taking the time to view and to comment. Always glad to know my experiences are helpful to others. And yes...what is the purpose if you are not enjoying the process. Perfection is highly overrated! :).
Have recently discovered your channel; not totally a newbie but words of encouragement and refreshened reminders are stimulating to some of my ‘deep storage’… like your close ups👍 and all of your beautiful stitching!
Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to share your thoughts. Always the best when I hear that I have inspired someone to tap their own creativity! Stitch on!!
Thank you for viewing! And yes, we all do learn differently. I learned that as a teacher many years ago. Give 30 kids the same assignment (I taught art) and you most certainly will get 30 different projects - some on which will make you wonder if they all heard the same thing! LOL! I loved it as it really stimulated my own creativity. I often learn as much from others as they might learn from me. Enjoy the creativity...enjoy the diversity.!
Thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment. I think our grandmothers and even mothers, had a wealth of knowledge that never made it to the younger generation in our pursuit of modernity. So glad my mom put up with my sometimes less than enthusiastic attitude in order to share her sewing know how with me!! Enjoy your stitching!
This is an excellent and super helpful video!! Thanks so much Mary : ) I've been stitching for years, and still learned some great ideas to improve my work, and I hope to use them on my next wool applique project. Happy Stitching!
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always glad to hear when someone finds some value in my experiences. And yes, there never seems to be a limit to the new things that we can always learn. Have fun stitching!!
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. While there are always clever hints etc. there's no doubt that practice helps every one of us. AND as a 'recovering' perfectionist I find that it really is much more enjoyable to just not give over to the feelings of having everything perfect - we usually are our own worst critics. When I think my work isn't all that good, I usually find that if I ask someone else's opinion (OR put the piece away for a while) that 99.9% of the time they don't even notice any imperfections. All this said means to just enjoy the stitching!!
Thank you so very much for your helpful hints. I was discouraged by the way my stitches looked so i stopped my project. After watching this I’m going to go back and try again.
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Don't be so hard on yourself - perfection is highly overrated! Took me most of my 70 years to embrace that! Just enjoy the process! Happy stitching!
Thank you for sharing your expertise. Your work is beautiful. I learned so much from just watching this one from you that has frustrated me for years. The tips are great. Thank you.😊
Thank you. I have been making some felt decorations for years, and because of inaccuracy i have slowed to a stop. You have shown me loads of ideas to complete the 12 days of christmas at last.
Kathy - thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment! Always pleased to know the videos I make help other stitchers! Stitch on and have a wonderful holiday!
Great video! I’m a very new beginner and I’m such a visual person and you could see what you were doing so well. Most of the time the view is blocked and I don’t feel like it shows me very well. This def helped!
Thank you Crystal - first for viewing and then for sending along your comments. Those comments - the good and the bad - help me when I make the videos! I'll never win any awards for my video skills, but if they help people such as yourself, I'm a happy camper!
@@marymittelstadt6208 I think continue as you did this. You showed great views, good lighting and different ways of learning! Your work on what you brought into view was beautiful!
What a awesome video!!! Thank you I learned so much just in this one video. Incredibly helpful! New subscriber & now I am going to your website. I am so impressed with all the things you just shared. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I know it is going to help me a lot and also anyone else who sees your video:)
Thank you Sandra, for taking the time to view and to leave a comment. I love being able to share my experience with others and its always a good thing when I hear that it has helped and inspire them.
Wow!! This is a God send! I have been teaching myself lil embroidery stitches here & there for a few yrs now & have jst now decided to try & do more advanced embroidery techniques. However, I dont know anyone else who does this & we live out in the middle of nowhere & much too far to take classes of any kind. Yr work is beautiful as soon as I saw this, I knew you cld indeed help me! Thank you again & God bless. 😃
Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment. When one works from home, it surely is a blessing when others comment with their thoughts....helps me to know what future videos might be helpful. So glad you found the info helpful, but never underestimate your own 'discoveries' as you teach yourself. Every stitch was once someone's attempt - and became a cool stitch! I used to teach art and was always amazed at what my students came up with on their own, often teaching me! You may also want to check out the tutorials on my website www.designandbemary.com/ Perhaps they will also be helpful to you. PS. Living out in the boondocks can have its challenges, but also the blessings of nature, quiet, and time/place for contemplation and creativity to flourish. Enjoy your day!
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. It's always nice to hear that my information is helpful to someone. Over time and practice, your stitching will improve...but please remember that perfection is highly over rated ;) Others seldom see what we tend to judge as not so great. Just enjoy your stitching 'journey' and do what makes you happy!
Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to comment. I always appreciate the feedback. I try hard to keep my videos to a reasonable time - covering what needs to be presented but not so long that people lose interest! Not always easy. LOL! At one time in my life I taught 9-12 grade art...believe me you can lose a lot of 9th graders really fast! LOL!!
Thank you for taking the time to view and comment. Always nice to hear that it inspires! Just don't forget : there are no stitching police and have fun!!
Thank you for such a clear to-the-point and useful video know-hows ~ these tips will help me improve my work for certain. I also like that none of them are pricey! Because I am so impressed with your teaching manner and skills, I have subscribed to your channel. God bless
Thank you for viewing and taking time to comment. How wonderful for both your granddaughter and you - to share an interest. Always nice to hear my experiences are helpful!
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Happy stitching!

Thank you for viewing and for taking time to comment! Always fun to meet someone who is excited about joining those of us who work with wool. Be careful...it's catchy!! lol! My only advice...don't get hung up on 'rules' - try lots of different materials and techniques and then use whatever works for you. Oh - and don't forget to have fun!
Thank you for taking the time to not only view, but to comment. Always good to hear that the viewer has gained some new insight or skill from my experience. Happy stitching!
Am new to this craft and am so very glad to have found your site. Will be able to make good looking items that I tbe proud of. Thanks for your wonderful site and information.
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Welcome to wool stitching! It's always good to hear my information is helpful and encouraging to others. Over time and with practice, all our skills improve, but do remember that 'perfection' is highly over rated: I often wonder how many wonderful projects we don't get to see because we feel they are not 'good enough'... Others seldom see our work the way we do. So mostly, yes work to improve, but don't forget to have fun along the way. Trust and enjoy your own creativity!
Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment. Always good to heart that my experience is helpful. Just don't forget to enjoy the stitching! There are no wool police!
Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment - that really encourages me and helps me to decide what to post, etc. Im so glad you found the site helpful and that you are encouraged. The best part of stitching is to remember that perfection is highly over rated and that if you aren't having fun...well what's the point! :). Enjoy your stitching adventure!
So sorry for this late reply....sometimes life happens! Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Always happy to hear that my information and experiences are helpful to others! Happy stitching!
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. Enjoy trying things out, stitch away, and remember that it is only important to use what works for you and what you enjoy . Thank heavens there are no woolie police!! LOL!
Thank you for viewing my video(s) and taking the time to comment here. Always nice to know that they are helpful to other stitchers out there! Enjoy your stitchin!
Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment! Love hearing from across the ocean. I have a dear friend who emigrated to the US in her high school years....I had a great time learning about a place that seemed so far away to someone who's family had little means to travel. We are still good friends to this day!
Thank you Joan for viewing as well as subscribing and taking the time to comment. I am always happy to hear that my experience has been helpful to someone else. Remember to enjoy your stitching experiences and to have fun.
So many excellent tips here! Thank you! Shape tape seems difficult to get ahold of ... I'm going to experiment with making my own by cutting a roll of painters tape, laying it flat, and cutting scallop shapes with a hole saw. Might work!
I must have missed the notice of your comment! Sorry! But do want to thank you for viewing and commenting. It is always good to hear that my experiences are helpful to others. And yes I agree - the shape tape has been hard to locate...I'm thinking they no longer make it. But I like your idea of using painters tape....or maybe even contact paper?
Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to comment. Always good to hear my experiences and work is helpful to others. I'm a long time quilter who happened to discover wool and wool work at a time when my health wouldn't cooperate for 'regular' quilting. It is a lot of fun, very forgiving, portable, allowing for lots of creativity and use of a variety of materials. Perhaps you can find a small kit to give it a try. Enjoy!
So thankful for this video. I have learned so many helpful tips! It bothered me when my stitches weren't perfectly spaced. Now I will be able to do it. Thank you!
Thank you Kay for viewing and for taking the time to comment. It's always nice to know that my experiences with techniques and materials is helpful to someone. Enjoy the stitching!!
Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment. It is always rewarding to know that the information in my videos is helpful to others! Happy stitching!
Thank you for viewing! Always glad to hear my efforts are helpful... And remember, the true goal is to do what works for you and what is satisfying. There are no wool police! Hopefully you will eventually just enjoy your best efforts and not worry about any particular standard!
I just happened to see this video and am really impressed with your gorgeous work and fantastic teaching ability. Thank you so much, I also subscribed😊

Thank you for these clever ideas. Even stitches sound easy but can be so hard. I’ll try the tape and the templates.
So many great tips - thank you so much!
Thank you for viewing and for taking the time to comment! Always good to hear that someone finds my experience helpful! Enjoy your stitching!
Thank you.😊

Really helpful demonstration. Thank you.
Thanks for viewing and for taking the time to comment! Happy stitching!
Thank you! Some really very good advice... I'm always struggling with these stitches and now I know how to improve them
Thank you for taking the time to view and to comment. It's always nice to hear that my information is helpful to someone. Over time and practice, your stitching will improve...but please remember that perfection is highly over rated ;) Others seldom see what we tend to judge as not so great. Just enjoy your stitching 'journey' and do what makes you happy!
Those finished pieces are impressive!
Thanks for sharing the tips.
Thank you for taking the time to view as well as comment. Very much appreciated!
Great video and wonderful tips Mary. Thank-you. Pam Miller

Very helpful video and enjoyed the fact that you got to the heart of the suggestions without a lot of extra unrelated comments. Well presented. Thanks
LOL!!
I’ve just learned so much, I now feel confident to give embroidery with felt a try. Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you for taking the time to view and comment. Always nice to hear that it inspires! Just don't forget : there are no stitching police and have fun!!

Many thanks, I'm a newbie with wool. This year I'm going to do a wool project!
Thanks so much for the tips. So glad I found your channel.
I found your tips very helpful. Thank you. I may try some applique on my quilt blocks now that I have seen your hints.

Thank you for these ideas. So much good information ! Hope all is well.

Thank you for such an interesting informative video. Best wishes from England 😊
Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment! Love hearing from across the ocean. I have a dear friend who emigrated to the US in her high school years....I had a great time learning about a place that seemed so far away to someone who's family had little means to travel. We are still good friends to this day!
Wonderfully helpful and very well presented. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to view and comment. Always nice to know my experiences are of value to others! Happy stitching!

I just found you and this is interesting this kind of work. So pretty. Thank you

Thank you!

Thank you for viewing! Always glad to hear my efforts are helpful... And remember, the true goal is to do what works for you and what is satisfying. There are no wool police! Hopefully you will eventually just enjoy your best efforts and not worry about any particular standard!
