sir you cant pass through this door without your hev suit
CounterStrike Source's Office is amazing, I love the vibe of the map.
Militia too in both
It's 2009 and you come home from school to play some office on fragmasters UK server. Terrorists rushing office was so fun, people hiding in the cabinets etc
Same
it will always be my favorite map. there's just something about it that i love.
css takes my heart every day of the week.. aged like fine wine. One of the things i hate the most about current cs is the insane amount of props on official maps and therefore the bad performances. Also the fact that they pretend to be competitive when theres no working anti cheat besides faceit. Valve devs and CS2 community doesnt know what CSS community servers used to be, they have no clue.
I sure miss the days of CSS community servers. It was hard to find a server that fit our small frengroup but it was great once we did and stuck with those servers for a long time. Still acquaintances with one rando I met in a server after probably 18 years.
Source was my first online multiplayer game where voice chat was a thing which blew my mind at age 11 so it's very near and dear to me and will always be the GOAT. I was saddened to see CSGO did not have nearly half or anything at all in regards to community based freedom like source did.
I started with CS Beta 0.7.1 up to 1.6 (Though, I preffered 1.5 more). But when CSS released, I played both until I decided to move to solely CSS.
Good times.
how did you like csgo and cs2 ?
I liked both and did the same, from CSS to CSGO and now CS2@@malachkah
Counter-Strike Source. All day all night.
3:00 That's true based on my experience, I started with CS Source and then when I tried CS 1.6 I thought it was old and outdated but that didn't stop me from having fun playing it
But I still prefer CS Source because I started from there and I liked it
I started with 1.5 and continued with 1.6, so for me it is the opposite. The thing about Source is that it was ALWAYS less popular than 1.6. Sure, a lot of people liked how Source looked (myself included), but playing it felt really wrong (not to mention there was PHYSICS and bouncing barrels that blocked your shots, imagine how frustrating that was for players, it was a big turnoff for CSS back then). Funny enough, people were still playing 1.6 when CSGO came out. But this time, Valve was fully committed to the game, and it quickly became the most popular version of the game, attracting new players to a franchise that was actually dying
@@KeksimusMaximus people played 1.6 for the competitiveness, this is why 1.6 died when csgo took over but source did not. also cs2 is still the biggest fps game on steam and it wont stop growing
>i will try to be as unbiased as possible
>1.6 movement is just better
Is it bias if it's true?
@@bz0rrr i think the majority of the movement community will disagree.
most movement gamemodes are on source for a reason.
This is the one thing where I feel like Source is the best I otherwise think Source is a bad game lol.
i mean it's not bias it's just a fact lol
@@happinson They stick to source because 1.6 got killed by GO. Source was always more casual and was better able to survive the transition.
To me css was more iconic and had a larger community, and a wider variety of community servers
cs 1.6 & source > cs2
@@zzzorb real
1.6 isn't better than 2 ngl. They're around the same level tbh. Cs source is the best Cs rn
@@Filthyfrank_17 I never understood why cs source is so underappreciated
@@HeliodromusScorpio Yeah bro, i just play cs 1.6 and source, i just played 7 minutes of cs2 and go at his time and i got so bored, because the gameplay feels so automatic, but cs 1.6 and cs source feels more manual.
@@zzzorb would agree with you mostly(obviously not including anything about graphics) but the cs2 nade physics are really fun for me personally. Recently tried to play cs 1.6 and tried a jump throw out of habit and the way nades are thrown is genuinely pathetic
I literarily love both of them. I've spent so many hours on those games that I can't pick only one. I loved the Surfing so much on CS:S and the GG servers. On CS 1.6 I loved the matches I've been participating in with different communities of CS 1.6. It was a golden period for me. Sadly, many of those communities have closed (some of them "recently"). I have so many memories of those 2 games. Sometimes I wish I could have so much time that I could spend playing them again. Right now, I am spending my free time playing mostly CS2‚ and even if I've been facing so many cheaters lately‚ I love this one too. Each CS game is unique and I love all of them (official games not community modded versions).
7:16 I started playing CS 1.5 in 2003, and I first got Steam in 2004 to keep playing on 1.6 when WON shut down. I started played CSS from the first day of release in 2004. My initial exposure to both games were almost the same time at this point (2003 vs 2004). In my opinion, both are equally good. Sometimes I'm more in a mood for one or the other, but I've had basically equal amount of playtime in both for the last 20+ years
Imagine if someone or valve made cs:s2
It's called CS2.
@@_indig0 i know but i meant something better than that. A game that has all the stuff from cs:s. Like physics, better bots and more.
@@NinetyEight418 makes sense, it would be great but Valve probably doesn't give enough of a fuch
@@NinetyEight418 Im saying this since GO release. We need something like Counterstrike : Sourcemod which is the sucessor to CSS and its main point is public servers, casual gameplay, funservers, surf, deathrun etc. So a sandbox platform inside of counterstrike with the existing content from CS2 (So skins, guns, maps etc). I think Valve thinks gmod already exists so they won't do it. But since S&Box release is TBA and i honestly prefer CSS mod servers to gmod mod servers its not going to happen. So what im saying is Gmod is not the same as CSS and css is so much more unique and fun to play modded stuff on. But i guess valve does not see enough reasoning to actually make a 2nd CS for that.
@@DarkSession6208 we already have that, its called gmod
1.6 and earlier was home. source wasnt bad but it just didnt give me the same feel as 1.6 did.
CSS was the first cs and source game I have ever played and I used to play a lot of cs 1.6 with mods like deathrun, zombie mod and gungame back in the day, so I feel nostalgic about both versions. Css is more polished and beautiful looking version (it looks and feels better than csgo/cs2 IMO), and cs 1.6 has the most mods
okay but no ambiance DOES make 1.6 lesser, source ambience is so cool and i love it
Ambiance does not matter that much because we are just focusing on killing players and win
8:13 had me cracking so hard. Thank you broski
The ratchet and clank soundtrack as background music is crazy
2:47 de_prodigy in Source was so disappointing when I saw they had removed the precipice from that area that was in the 1.6 and CZ versions of the map, and replaced it with a couple generic buildings with a fence in front of it
Dont forget how cscz serve as the very backbone of css. It starts with bot friendly maps and proper gun/map designs (cs maps are made by community and they are less optimized). Heck even the gun buy icon in css is taken from cscz
Source was rushed and it's map design was far better compared to CSCZ.
@@Immolator772 do you mean map decorations? Ofc you cant compare source to goldsrc. Anyway if you refer to how some paths are changed, source directly follows cscz. Most obviously in militia and prodigy
@@DeanAmx yeah but any prop that hides you can be moved away.
@@Immolator772 thats because of source engine
@@DeanAmx CSCZ has many obstructions and changes to some maps that i can see why people hate them. I myself like the easthetic and visuals, but they should've just done that, not add props that can give advantage to players.
What do you mean « un ironically prefer csgo to cs2 »? That’s a common opinion lol
Eh, I think that's in the more hardcore scene that is so polarized, as a filthy casual I find CS2 much more refreshing than CSGO, I found they ironed it out, I couldn't exactly pin point one thing. A more stylish less gritty art style? Or maybe it's the menu's don't give me a conniptions anymore. I've only really found myself playing CS lately actually, the game feels fresh again
Are the CS:S glazers just a loud minority?
1.6: Ahh, stuck through the door man!
CS:S: admin he's doing it sideways
CSGO: muh 661 scar pattern
CS2: bro he wasn't even on my screen 😡
Counter-Strike Source and Counter-Strike 1.6's weapons work a bit differently. The bullets would sometimes go well above the target while crouching, not moving and taking all the time to aim and with CS-S you can make the crosshair as little as you wanted with commands, but that is not the case with Cs 1.6 which makes it harder to aim or learn to aim
Never knew why people didnt like the 1.6 "expoits". I kinda miss them in the new games, paper thing walls made the game skill ceiling even higher, dont see how thats bad. Same goes to SGSing and bhopping. I personally plsy games for fun, dont know why people nowdays talk about the realistic aspect of them. Its a game, its supposed to be unrealistic
1.6 never had bhop. older versions did
@@spinningsquare1325 it does if you're good at it
i have played and enjoyed both for almost 10 years now, made countless memories aswell
The Counter-Strike franchise as a whole is a matchless experience. Whether you are a competitive player or a casual one that wants to hop in for s*** and giggles, there's room for every kind in all the CS games.
I like both equally and probably more than CS2 though what I sincerely miss are the early days of CSGO. That tactical focused theme was so new at the time. Such a throwback.
4:20 - I prefer CSS for the most part, but THIS. This is indeed, a point. I may not like cs1.6 but the death animations are engrained in my brain to this day
i'm probably speaking to myself here, i'm 32, i remember being a teen when cs source came out, people HATED IT, i call them 1.6 elitists, my friend always told me that 1.6 have better skins, dont know wtf hes talking about, also, there the 1.5 elitists who told everyone how 1.5 was better then 1.6
You know, there are also 1.4 elitists
Judging by the music choice I can tell you are an educated fighting game enjoyer as well
I play both, when I play CS, I start with 1.6, then I play Source just to see the evolution
I think both has their own good things, and they can be enjoyed separately, without being compared with each other
I first played CS like... 4-5 years ago (CSS) so it always was the most fun of the two oldies in my opinion. Nowadays I just plays CS2 and sometimes Source.
5:36 The water shimmering effects in Source always annoyed me, because they're not clamped at the edges, which gives that weird white speckling at the edges of water bodies like you can see here. I always circumvented that in my own maps by having the water edge outside of view of the playable area, but there's no reason I should have to do that
Seeing guns on left side make me sick
source is my fav. shooting in 1.6 feels like hitting a rock, in csgo everything looks round and too soft and not like the original cs.
I fell you man. It's hard to distinguish between those two. Even tho I have played CS 1.6 more and it was my first CS, I still preferr CSS... The biggest reason I preferr CSS over Cs 1.6 is physics and being able to make your crosshair beautiful and steady ALL THE TIME instead of having to bear the trouble of looking at that HYPER dynamic crosshair which DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO SHOOT PROPERLY. I have always hated that in CS 1.6 so I preferr CSS over all, it has more mods and is, just better...
cs:source with cs1.6 guns/ct t models is insane.
Nothing will ever touch 1.0-1.6 .That's actual, real CS. The GOAT. Peak performance. What followed is something else. Games that are "CS" only in name, nothing more.
- Much much lower skill ceiling with every iteration. This is just a fact. If you don't believe me, check out "CS 1.6 final movie" on youtube to see what was possible and then compare with the best highlights of the other games. Or don't, actually. It's embarrassing for the other games.
- More utility play and strats because people can't aim for shxt. Meanwhile, back in 1.6 everybody and their dog had laser guided aim and nades were an afterthought.
- More and more clutter on the maps (just what you need in a competitive game) + agent skins that make the enemies hard to see
- The worsening of movement and disappearance of all the skill that came with it
- Skins. In a competitive game. I don't need to say more. But skins are cool for the casuals, I guess...
- Casual gamemodes in the most tryhard game to ever exist? Why?
- etc.
If the 1.6 esport scene had all the sponsor backing and viewership CS:GO did, we would still be watching 1.6 pro matches to this day and the level would be so so so far above what's currently possible in CS2. People don't even realize what could have been.
Holy Glaze
@@Alb_Balk Donut talk to me kid
I started my CS journey two years ago with CS:S, and I really had a great time. I thought that CS 1.6 was outdated and buggy, but when I tried it, I fell in love instantly. I now play both games equally.
I am 34.I play cs 1.6 to this day because there are still full servers with players from my country. But if cs source would've had as many players,i would play it instead.cs s is best cs imo.cs go/2 just didn't feel the same for me.
The part where you talk about how glitchy cs1.6 is with the wallbangs, crouch spamming, grenades, etc. Helps complete the picture. 1.6 isn't better optimized, balanced, more stable, etc. People are just used to a certain type of jank, so when they move to a new game the old tricks they've learned no longer work and rather than learning new strategies, they just blame the game and go back to what they know and are comfortable with.
I had a friend who only played on Dust2, he would run circles around me and make fun of my gameplay. Then I changed the map and suddenly he's getting farmed, so he started blaming the map and kept whining about how I should switch back to Dust 2.
People just don't want to learn new things, and pros are probably the worst example because money is on the line and they're playing to win rather than to have fun. Anything new and different is just an annoyance to them because it's time they have to spend unlearning old habits and learning new techniques. It's the reason why so many "competitive" fps games are stale and devoid of meaningful content.
I wish someone who was alive when these games came out was making these videos
You used to have to buy ammo in CSS, I can't remember when it changed
I like the Source, but 1.6 will always be my favorite game
The most iconic thing about css is the ragdolls😂
Idk man, Source is just way smoother for me...
counter strike is a game, counter strike source is a dlc for gmod.
2:00 "non steam initially" - False, kid. CS 1.6 was released three days after Steam launched. CS 1.6 was always a Steam game
But CS up to 1.5 was never a Steam game.
@@MrSnaetch this video is about 1.6
Anyone gonna talk about the recommended videos being the same ones 9 times in a row
The biggest issue with Source is that it required the Steam client. That’s why I kept my server on 1.6 until they stopped allowing private servers to operate.
We don't have to argue guys, we all already know that Deleted Scenes is the best
I grew up with both games, first CS 1.6 and then CSS. And i love both, only reason i prefer CSS is the aesthetic and the physics. Which another reason why i prefer HL2 over HL1. The aesthetic of Source is just darker. I spent more time on CSS, but i still have unforgettable moments with 1.6, the times were much simpler back then.
I tried 1.6 yesterday after a few years of not playing it but playing cs:s, I can say that I can't aim for shit in 1.6. So I hopped back to cs:s.
honestly I started out with counter strike 1.6, and then went into source, and safe to say, I love both of them!!
SALVO, i started css as a kid back in the day when it first came out, followed it right through till when i was in sixth form at school, watching the CGS tournaments birmingham salvo vs complexity, best times of my life. went to a few lans as well, i34 and i35 where we came up against reason and we didn't win a round. played against TLR and 4kings, didn't stand a chance.
cs source is the better one, people dont realize, afterall its a remake of it so they made it better and you were kind of biased on source and 1.6 taking 1.6's side more for big details
I appreciate the Ratchet & Clank music

Welcome back bro!
Also source had best rag dolls, for some reason they broke it with some update. I remember when you used shotguns and model goes against the wall with alot of blood. Source 2 hopefully will bring back community once souce 1 had.
1.6 is always in my heart but css was next gen game ❤

2 months ago i managed to create a Extra Items system for CS:S zombiemod (new weapons, double jump, zombie bombs...)
However i gave up working on my server and now im just playing games

AYO! WELCOME BACK 🕺
CS source has the best ragdolls in the series
the last point is true tho, i actually dont understand why was there a debate in the first place
- on the graphic : both of them have their own charms,
+ cs1.6 look really retro and cartoonish, i really dig the vibe of it
+ cs:s has this liminality vibe and nolstagic look to it ( i understand cs1.6 is much much nolstagic but cs:s was fully released in 2011, the golden age of video game so i have more things to remember about it rather than 1.6 )
- both game has unmatched modding capability, you can literally play dark soul in css, and you can play half life with cs1.6 weapons, how cool is that
- i played both game, and love both of them, and we as valve consumer should rejoyce the existance of both
As a 2000 hours player of Counterstrike 1.6, I can say the gameplay is gritty and bloody than Source version of Counterstrike. Meanwhile, the Source version of Counterstrike is fast-paced, physics based and more casual than 1.6. But to be honest, both are great but I am more inclined to waste time in Counterstrike 1.6 because nostalgia purposes. But if I want to play casual shooter and enjoy physics based Counterstrike, then the Source version would be played. Also, communities in 1.6 are a bit active than the Source one (the multiplayer servers in Counterstrike Source has a lot of "Russian" scam servers compared to 1.6. By this point, I would consider both 1.6 and Source version of Counterstrike "classics" of its genre.
4:14 that’s up to personal preference. I prefer source+ source is almost REQUIRED to play GMOD with mods
I still remember the old days when Garry's Mod was a free Half-Life 2 mod
If you beat CS Source expert bots that literally have aimbot, you are the best CS player in general.
This is the safest video ever lmao
SMT 3 soundtrack in the background, based.
unironically the original xbox counter strike is my favourite cs, was one of the first games i remember playing
what really annoyed me about 1.6 is that if you get hit you will move so much slower for a few seconds which makes running away pretty much impossible
Source was my first CS game therefore it's objectively the best
CS 1.6 for normal CS playing.
CSS for fun community server playing. I prefer the latter so for me CSS wins but of course to each their own
While half life run on cs 1.6 engine half life graphics never outdated
I prefer css simply because it’s not as competitive as the others. Cs 1.6 has been around for so long so the players are very good and take it very seriously and the same is true for cs2 it’s just too serious. Css is the middle ground of the two with it being not that competitive and easy to pick up and play. I also like how easy it is to mod css, I started out with 1.6 and modding it was very annoying because you actually had to replace files instead of just dragging and dropping.
css has the best physics that make it very realistic in it time
For me i like CSS graphics. Favorite mode is Zombie Escape. CS1.6 have bad graphics but still i like it's Zombie Plague CSO mode. 😎
CSGO is(was) the most competitive and balanced out of all CS
CSS has the most mods and community support
CS 1.6 is the best
CS CZ is the game that tried to appeal to the offline market
CS2 was the upgrade no one wanted
"Competitive" CS was the "meta" nobody wanted. Everyone who actually did eSports just made a private passworded scrim server or w/e in the earlier games
comp = 1.6
fun, community = source
I like 1.6 much more. paradoxically, the lighting in that game is just better, is possible to create proper contrast with pitch black areas of the map and light ones. and the crisp shadows on the viewmodels are to this day, super sexy. i loved playing classic zombie mode
For crazy gamemodes we got garrys mod. When we open counter stike 99% want to play counter strike. Cs Source feels more like half life with cs skins, and 1.6 was different even if it born how a hf mod
i love cs 1.6 cuz when you throw a smoke grenade and the bots wont know you have a awp so that is my free kill
I grew up with CS:S and I think it's more iconic than CS 1.6. The only thing that's more Iconic in CS 1.6 is the cover art.
source has such a fast game play style so I like that one more. less Jacky then 1.6
CSS, CSGO, CS2 is basically same source engine game. they are worse than 1.6 but 1.6 is so outdated that feels like playing old retro game
To be honest i was a source fan till today but as i give 1.6 a try i loved it more.
0:45 I do, Simple, the content, character, and fps, i couldnt care less honestly in csgo, I like source graphics a lot more too./ AND DANGER ZONE IS SO GOOD :)
I started with CS Source
played hours, days, weeks, months, basically a long time Zombie escape, Zombie Mode, (2 totally different modes actually), Surf and Bhop
After trying out CS:GO in 2013
I continued playing CS Source because it was the better game in my opinion
Around 2014 I started playing Gmod and slowly got more to the Source engine and saw sometimes something of CS:GO
Around 2016 was the time when I started with CS:GO for real and switched to it completly.
About 2 years later when Dust 1 and Aztec got removed from the game it was time for me to go back.
That's the time when I met Condition Zero.
I played the campaign to the end. Every single mission.
Afterwarts I even finished Condition Zero Deleted Scenes.
After playing CS:S, CS:GO, CS:CZ, CS:CZ Deleted Scenes and the Chinese game Counter-Strike Nexon Zombies (which later became Counter-Strike Nexon Studio) ...
...I was still missing 1 game.... CS 1.6
And Now where CS2 is officialy out and CS:GO gone.
I can truelly say I played all important versions of CS
Here is my list of the best CS games:

1. CS:GO July 2018 (before the game became Free to play)
2. CS2

I played source in CAL and almost got to CPL I wouldn't say it wasn't competitive.
The only thing goldsource cs has better are thr hostages on the cscz version and the existence of assassination mode.
Great comparison, 1.6 just has it, it has that something. I tried source but it's terribly numb, and a perfect example that it's not enough to simply copy everything to a new engine and success is guaranteed.
ok ur ytb chanel need more attention u got potential bud
one of the reasons i play cs source is because its fun and casual. I got kinda bored with cs2 and i haven't played cs 1.6, but i will eventually.
the ragdoll is amazing in source
