In this video Im talking about scariest maps from cs 1.6. To find decent options, I had to look through more than 10 thousand maps. I tried to make the video as atmospheric and scary as possible. I hope I succeeded. If you want to see this iceberg for other versions of counter-strike, then you can write about it in the comments. But I'm getting a bit tired of map videos and want to diversify my content a bit.

it amazes me that more primitive engines can give off a more eerie and creepy vibe more than most modern ones, think its because they had to work with the technical limitation but that just made them able to craft such an amazing map, thank you for covering these maps
it's not really all about devs innovating due to tech. limitations and more about limitations forced the devs to make maps less detailed, which makes the player's imagination finish what the devs wanted to show, and we know how crazy one's imagination can get
i spent a summer in 05 with friends on our own server, playing custom maps. we were obsessed with Nipper maps, like Blahhh.
@@firefail105 This is the right answer. Something similar happens when comparing Half-Life's Nihilanth and Black Mesa's Nihilanth. The first one was way less detailed, which makes your braing have to figure out what it's looking at, and that with the expectation of something scary, makes your brain come up with the scariest possible thing to each individual person.
That's also why the noodle incident trope works and why horror films which imply rather than show are usually the best.
Sometimes gives off a surreal yet real feeling, idk how to explain it

Man, i remember how back then i used to play a lot of counter strike 1.6. some maps were unsettling for me to the point that i would refrain playing it alone at night.

Really commend you for taking your time to not only record the footage but also make these short creepy intros for each map. Huge thanks for listing every map in the description, too. The narration is, sadly, the weakest part - it just doesn't add much. But you'll get there, it simply takes practice. Love when lesser-known CS maps get shined some light on, keep it up!
Hey bud you put a lot of hard work into this video and I appreciate that. cs_woodz was created by 3-D Mike back in 2001. 3-D Mike made popular maps like cs_bikini and de_deadlock. Very prolific level designer. Woodz isn't a creepy map, it's a comical stealth map. I mean there's the A-Team's GMC vandura on the bridge in T spawn lol. Mr. T drives that thing haha. Also the climbable trees in CT spawn is ridiculously funny. 3-D Mike went on to make a better version of cs_woodz called de_predator (no immediate relation to the 1980's movie).
Anyhow, I grew up playing this game and love the gold source engine. It doesn't generally creep me out unless the game or map is horror specific. I sometimes load maps up on a whim because it's comforting. I see how lots of people find this engine creepy though. It's like how black and white movies kinda scared me as a kid. Just a different generation.
Thank you for history. Unique info which, I'm sure, you can't find anywhere, only from mapmakers and people like you.

Yeah, the last maps were the real nightmare. The funny part is that I have never played horror games. It was really hard to force myself to play zm_silent_hill and ze_sanatorium2. After playing all scary maps I lost this feeling of being afraid of playing horror games.
I'm glad these forgotten, obscure maps are getting at least some recognition thanks to this video. zm_silent_hill is just a masterpiece in my opinion. Literally a silent hill, but from the first person.
I have already picked 30 maps for cs source but they are not that scary, nothing for 6 tier yet. Its like the scariest map from cs source has 6/10 scariness rating and cs 1.6 has 9/10 scariness rating. But I will try my best to find hidden gems. Thank you.
@@bay6_ Yes, the silent hill map is super creepy. At least CS:S maps will have stronger atmosphere because the game engine is more powerful: the maps can be more realistic and detailed.
Man awesome work you did here, I admire your bravery on those amazing map showcases you really knew how to set the horror atmosphere with your comments, keep it up!
Aside from the official maps, I did play maps like cs_cinema, zm_silent_hill and fy_cemetary but yeah, it's incredible on how unsettling and nightmare fuel some maps can actually in the GoldSrc engine.
The take away from this video is the map recommendations. Imma download them all and try them out by myself in local games. Thanks man and excellent iceberg. 👍

the only criticism i would have is that your voice is a bit too quiet you should either bump up the volume of your voice or just speak louder, and the background music is also quite loud, these two elements make it harder to understand what you are saying
But besides that, the video is really cool keep up the good work

I’d also add de_atlantis to this list. This map takes place at the archeological site inside of an underwater cave. The sound ambiance of this map is rather spooky

This iceberg was the best video I have ever seen and the horror maps were great, I think tier 5 to 6 gave me a few small scares, but I would put the maps to play in a Zombie Plague with the bots xD.
I would love to see an iceberg like this with Gmod or CS Source maps.

Only criticism I got is that your voice is very quiet and ambient music is too loud, but other than that, I like that you taken ambience of maps into the account and gave us a whirl by walking around the map. I was hoping I'd see a specific map that called something along of "zm_skybox_???_", question marks being more words I don't remember. That map lowkey traumatized me as a kid cus it had a screamer trap when you attempted to reach machinegun encampment up the stairs. If you or anyone else has any clues about this map, I'd love to hear it.
zm_silent_hill was pretty well made for a 2009 map

the creepiest map i have ever experienced in CS history is de_aztec from 1.6
in Terrorist spawn, there a perfectly intact human skeleton
you would probably think : oh it just ancient aztec people skeleton, but if that were the case, should the bone be in the process of decomposing and spread out everywhere
You should try de_storm then. If you're lucky enough you can meet a ghost that resembles like a bot run to random spot.

When I was a kid, I came up with all sorts of stories for these maps.
Imagine, living a life as a kid, wanting to be a cop then when you did you get sent to literal hell. Respect to the ct going here to record these

For me, It's missing de_stockholm. A really dark, beautiful and claustrophobic map featuring themes of suicide and depression, with eerie atmosphere and children crying.
Overall a great iceberg, I would love to see you make a new video on most aesthetically pleasing cs 1.6 maps!

Just got this video recommended - I see its a year old and you have problably learned to mix your voice.
Here, you should flatten everything before 200 Hz and bump a bit somehwere between 500-650 Hz and then compress it "brickwall" style.
That would make it much easier to hear you!
I recommend watching this video at night.
All those horror atmospheric scary old games specially fps ones with too much work into them but they completely fail to come close to this game.
there was a silent normal but slightly creepy cs 1.6 map. the developer of that map killed himself for unknown reasons but his map remained online and haunted, some players claim to hear footsteps and even while opening the server for max 2 players the server claims to be full when no players (other than you) are even in it. go make a video about that one it was a cs_ map hostage rescue kind

@@irgifahrezirahmad1894 I think hes talking about the OG "N0TH1NG". (Justin DeJong) he died after taking some drugs and committing suicide. Although I don't think I ever heard this "theory" he made cs_siege and cs_docks AND I THINK there was a trigger on siege where you would hear footsteps in the garage when someone was walking next to that room with one sided glass. Soo maybe hes talking about this? idk tbh just guessing.

I am not sure if it’s a fever dream but I remember once when I was little I played CS 1.6 on a Zombie map and there was a secret room in which if you break the door you will hear a scream and there would be a hanged man inside.
Does anyone remember and know the name of such map or should I just consider it as fever dream?

i was playing gmod in css_havana, i used to love to make wars between npcs, until one day for some reason there was a fence made of a thin png, it wasnt 3D that covered some parts of the maps, for some reason 2 of my npcs died by themselves maybe they tripped into a corpse and suddenly the light went out in my house, i had like 10 years and i cried because of that, today i played havana on cs 1.6 without bots and the kenopsia hits hard
btw im not lying it was all a coincidence, i dont believe in ghosts inside games, thats stupid
i played havana all the time with bots, ig im psychotic😅
