I have installed successfully the CU 23 on our active DAG server member (DBs are mounted). If I am to install the aame in the second DAG member (passive one), do I have to run those commands (drain hub transport,put the server in maintenance mode)?
sure bro these commands on each member are meant to be done
it is better to put it in Maintence mode,
also not to host any DBs
and not to have emails in its Queue,
and to pause the node,
thats the use of the commands mainly

after upgrading directly u restart and then install update and then remove from maintenance

also regarding CU15 it is not needed to update the AD schema,
Anyway if it is needed, the exchange server will not upgrade the CU unless it is installed.

yes it will work for sure...same scenario. you may need to add IIS URL rewrite..

these commands from the new iso:
prepare schema
prepare ad
prepare domain

Hi Alaa, I have Exchange 2016 cu6 with 4 members DAG, would like to upgrade to cu19 but got a lot of error in readiness check and can’t CU update on the 1st member Exchange server upgrade. Is it because I don’t run scheme/AD domain update for DCs? .Net framework already installed 4.8 and forest/domain functional level is Windows 2008R2. Thanks.
Sure u need to run the 3 commands ( prepare schema / domain / ad) seperately.
Domain functional level and forest level will not affect this at all...

@@ericlao5522 bro. the commands are done on DC side so u just run them once on 1 member only...
and the other exchange servers will see the changes done by these commands on the DC...
@@ericlao5522 also it wont affect any service... u can upgrade the members once per day.
but again the prepare schema and ad and domain are only done once for the first 1 and the others dont need to run these commands on again. best of luck
Hi, I have two member server exchange 16 and I want to upgrade both, defiantly one by one. Shall I have to go for all the command you run ? on if I enable the maintenance mode and make active is database copy will it be fine ?
Dear,
First of all make sure both servers have healthy database copies.
2nd move all databases from the server u want to upgrade to the other dag member.
then u start by following all the commands step by step.
When u reach prepare schema , ad and domain these have to be done once on 1 server only since these are objects to be written on active directory DCs once.
And while upgrading u will see that the database copies are unknown its fine since all the services will be down during the upgrade.
hope my answer satisfied ur needs.

Do you have to do AD Cu 11 12 13 14 15 Shema with every update? Why didn't you update the second server in DAG? thank you best regards
Okay to explain it to you perfectly,
lets say you have CU 12,
if you want to upgrade to CU 17 the latest of exchabge 2k16 server,
you need to update schema and Ad and domain,
but if you have CU13 then you dnt need to run these commands for the 17th update,
in all cases you can run these commands in any upgrade but if you have DAG you run it once on one of the servers.
also u can update to any CU you want but always use the latest to avoid bugs,
and you dnt need to install the in between CUs
Updating the second server only needs to run the setup from the exchange Iso.... after putting it in maintenance mode and pausing it ...
@@AL-Techs Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I want to update CU 11 to Cu 17, I just have to install CU 17 as a first step or install the missing CUs 12-17 one after the other and quite time consuming. I have Dag with 3 servers. tanx

u dont need to install the in between CUs,
First if you go to the link i pasted in the video,
you will find the commands to pause the node and put it in maintenance mode,
so go through them step by step,
then later you install .net framework 4.8,
and then you run
./setup schema & AD & Domain to update the data in DCs,
later you run the setup for upgrading the member,
and dont forget to put the maintetnce mode off after u finish the upgrade,
if you need anyhelp!

these instructions work on exchange 2013/2016/2019...
after you you move the databases from the member you want to start with to the other member and put it in Maintenance mode using my instructions,
Please use the commands of preparing schema / preparing Ad / preparing domain as mentioned
using cmd as enterprise admin and from the path of the mounted iso image of downloaded exchange Cu19 as follows:
1. Right click iso image then mount the exchange downloaded iso
2. open cmd as administrator
3. type cd then the drive which the iso image was mounted to.
4. run prepare commands as mentioned.
5. dont forget to install .net framework 4.8 after the commands finish and before the upgrade step
6. run exhange setup from the mounted drive to start the upgrade.
also regarding the security update.
please run it from cmd as administrator and not as double click.
for any helo please dont hesitate to ask...
