For anyone who doesn’t know Obongjayar, he’s an INCREDIBLY versatile artist. You’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg here, so would recommend checking his stuff out in a big way.
YES FINALLY!! bongjayar has been one of the most entertaining artists I've listened to in the past few years. He is extremely creative, fun and engaging. So glad he's finally getting more shine Thank you Tiny Desk!
This man is so underrated. I know he has been in the game awhile. I wish America embraced real positive music with real life messages 💯 Lyrics/Vibe are Beyond Genius ❤
We embrace it. The industry media gatekeepers just don't give this type of music air time. They want to keep people depressed with the toxic, perverted mess that they generate so they are easier to control.
He's not just talented but also he's representing every African culture, from jarabi like 'dessert rock to something that sounds like Ethiopian blues he's a legend
I was taking a moment to appreciate his superb use of polyrhythm throughout, such beautiful playing. Nice and appropriate to the acoustic format, love the detailed use of hihat... I'll go back and look at the facial expressions next :)
@@misterayeactually those are his mates in some typa way, he takes them to concerts and seems to rehearse with them a lot. I never fell for an artist until i came across OB. Totally worth the listen
I congratulate this project immensely. Spreading sounds from different latitudes is absolutely necessary for cultural and musical recognition. Thank you NPR ❤
I agree. That song has attracted me to his music. Never heard of him until now. Thanks, Tiny Desk for exposing musicians from around the world. 🎼🎵🎶🎙🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This duuudee killled it!! Definitely going in my top 10 performances on Tiny Desk and I’ve never heard of him. The white boy on the guitar was killing it! lol. One of the guitarists I’ve seen on him. I definitely want to see this band live if they tour in the states!
Phenomenal sound engineering from the NPR team (as always), and loved how comfortable effortless everyone was with their instruments. But it's pretty obvious the bass player carried this concert, what a master!
His album "Sometimes I Dream of Doors" was like a refuge of light and hope for me, and it seemed like such a good and authentic continuation of his work from "Sun". So glad he is getting recognition and more space under the spotlight, like many other artists of Naija background. Thank you for your artistry, Obongjayar!
Excited for all of you getting introduced to his music today. Can't wait for you to hop into his records and realise how toned down this was for the tiny desk environment.
got to see him live only a few months ago and it was an unforgettable experience! happy about this tiny desk cos what an incredible artist obonjayar is, you can tekk how much the musicians in the band love playing these peices
I was introduced to his music a few months ago by a friend and I cannot get enough!! I was wishing for this tiny desk to happen, and I tear up everytime I hear "I wish it was me", it's such a powerful lovesong! Love the vibes, love the music, love the band, all the love!

Dude I've thought the same thing about obongjayar and Fela Kuti for years now, so happy someone else was thinking it!!!!
Fela? Not at all...
Powerful delivery.
He's style is more funky that jazzy like fela
The video of him singing I Wish It Was Me to his family was incredible. So raw and talented!
Been one of my favourite artists since I heard his Little Simz feature, such a fantastic voice and effortlessly cool demeanour

That's how I just found him last night (pause).

Because it's not our style 😂😂😂😂😂
For the record. The bassist, Mutale Chashi, is the same who played with Jorja Smith a few years ago, in her Tiny Desk show, right here.
I recognized his face
