I feel like an old man yelling "back in my days..." when you mention the slender era of indie horror games. At some we went from that to just flashing an image while a 'scary' sound effect drills your earlobes at 100 times the max volume of any other sound in the game and it feels more like a swat team just threw a flashbang through your window than scary.
Pretty much, jumpscares are cheap and annoying with little to no substance. It's part of the reason most people you see playing these games don't find them scary after the first hour. Because they're not, it's a shame we can't get a return to the original styles of horror gameplay.. Where most of the atmosphere was in the world and the gameplay systems/buildup.

It could be possible that the hacker was looking for reddits to mess with and avoided channers, but I highly doubt any of that crazy stuff claimed ever happened
As a hacker, no. Everything has always been hackable. Your just hearing about it more, which is good, because that means people are figuring out that they are getting hacked. Back when I was younger internet security didn't exist.
Counter measures are just that bad, this is literally crappy anti hacking setup with no foresight, how could we know how many issues we were creating we never thought about information like this before.

I hit an old trojan among some stuff saved in 2012 a few weeks ago. Saw attempts to crack the SMB password on my NAS almost immediately, apparently it's quite alive. I'd had those files stored so long I got overconfident, it infected a bunch of executables, so lost some old utilities and program installers too old to be useful and cleaned up my firewall. Probably a good thing overall, as long as I find all the infected files.
