Apple Cinnamon Donuts made with Puff Pastry| Bonus Recipe Included

  • Ingredients:
    🍁For the salted caramel sauce:
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup heavy cream
    2 tbsp salted butter
    🍁 Method:
    In a heavy bottom pan, add in the sugar and let the sugar melt on very low heat. Do not start the sugar doing that will crystallize the sugar and the sauce won’t be smooth and creamy. The sugar will turn to a beautiful light golden colour in about 8 to 9 minutes.
    Once the sugar has caramelized, add in the butter and using a spatula, give this all a good mix until combined. Then pour in the heavy cream and whisk it altogether until the sugar and cream are mixed in and smooth.
    👉Tip: do not step away from the stove while the caramel is cooking as you might just end up overcooking and burning the caramel.
    Once the sauce turns to a beautiful amber color, turn the stove off and allow the caramel to cool down completely and the transfer it to a clean jar. Sprinkle some sea salt on top and set it aside.
    Ingredients:
    🍁For Cinnamon, apple puff pastry doughnuts
    2 Honeycrisp apples, washed and sliced into rounds (gala or pink lady apples work really well too)
    1 pack store-bought puff pastry sheets, thawed
    1/2 top of sugar
    1 tbsp ground cinnamon
    2 tbsp milk, room temperature for brushing
    🍁Method:
    Slice the apples in round and then using any round object core out the centre. Add some sugar and ground cinnamon to a bowl or plate and give it all a good mix. Dip each of the apple slices in the mix coating them from all the sides. Once they’re all done, set them aside.
    Now sprinkle some flower on a flat surface and then using a rolling pin roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Run the rolling bin very lightly over the puff pastry. Grease to remove it. Don’t overall the pastry, just roll enough to flatten the puff pastry sheet.
    Then using a pizza cutter cut the puff pastry sheet into long strips. One cut, take one of the cut strips and start wrapping the puff pastry strip around the apple just as shown in the video making sure that the slice is fully covered.
    Once all the slices are covered place them on a baking sheet, brush each of the slices with some milk and sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top. Pop the tray in the oven to bake at 350° until golden brown and crispy. They should take approximately 25 to 30 minutes depending on your oven.
    Once they are done, remove them from the oven and enjoy them as a light snack along with your coffee or tea or serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of the homemade caramel sauce and dig in.
    This is such an easy fall treat that comes together in no time at all and tests fantastic. You can store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days and simply reheat in an air fryer or oven for a few minutes before serving.
