Also I will share how much I pay for health insurance and one-off private healthcare not included in my health insurance. Absolute Bargain compared to North America . I went to a private hospital in Salvador last year . Excellent speedy service , doctors were superb …. And Brazilian dentists are easily the best in the world

      It's because we have both public and private healthcare systems. So, most hospitals, doctors etc. don't exaggerate too much as in the US because they know that in last case everybody has at least a chance and would not need to pay anything. But there are some luxurious very expensive private hospitals and doctors, who don't accept health insurance, for people of high social level, of course. Happily we have all the options.

    Finally I decided to spend the whole summer in Brazil and Argentina to find about which country, which city is best for an US retiree who lives on State government ( California) pension and US social Security checks .

    If you are going to Brazil and planning to get a health insurance, and price is not the problem for you (willing to pay about 200 U$D monthly), I really recommend Bradesco Saúde. If is for you and your family, I recommend you get the Bradesco Saúde Empresarial (for companies). If you don't own a company, you can create a company very simply and with the help of an accountant (contador) and have a better and more affordable insurance for your whole family. Believe me, Bradesco will never deny any blood test nor consultations or exams (such as MRI, heart exams like holster, etc). Before traveling to the US, where I am now, I probably did more than 50 blood tests, along with MRI, ultrasound with doppler, a variety of heart exams, a few doctor consultations, and they never asked for co-payment or denied an exam whatsoever.

      BZ here. Public schools usually lack funding but there are some very good private schools here and the BZ curriculum is much harder than in other places like the US believe it or not.
      Tuition costs will vary depending on where you live. In Sao Paulo and Rio a good school can cost R$4000-5000 (800-1000usd) per month but in the country side and other capitals you can surely find cheaper and also good options.

      Any human being is entitled to get free medical treatment in Brazil, regardless of nationality. But the quality of the service varies wildly. I would also recommend that you have a private backup plan. Since you are a foreigner, I think you should look for insurance plans, since I don't think you can subscribe to private directly without having a CPF (social security number), unless you are planning for a long stay.

      329 reais. That's 65 dollars, give or take. 329 dollars would get you the premiumest of the premium. Like, you'd have an apartment room with hotel service at your disposal, breakfast made by a chef (i'm not kidding) kind of healthcare (my dad has this kind of plan. Had a surgery and jesus christ, It felt weird once I visited him post-surgery. Seemed to be on vacation. As a visitor I could have breakfast and they served me tapiocas made fresh right in front of me, at the place reserved for breakfast for visitors and doctors, not at the room) I'm at the 60 dollar lane though, heheh. Fits me nicely, never had any problems and everything is pretty straightfoward. I don't want hotel service after all, I just want to be fixed, lol. When I get older I might seriously consider it, though.

Let's see how long it lasts, though, because we are in for a ride when it comes to a demographic age shift. We will become an "old' nation in the next 2 decades. It will be tough when it comes to public healthcare.

      Public health in Brazil is only reasonably good in about 5 to 6 states, including the Federal District. And even so it depends on the city you are in. If you have income in dollars and can afford health insurance, you should really get a insurance that costs about 150 U$D. You will never have to worry about consultations, blood exams, other types of exams such as MRI's, urgent care and emergency room, whatsoever.

      Peter, I am Brazilian and be sure that people like your partner don't use the public healthcare in Brazil and only replicate what our sensationalist TV shows, that is, the worst cases, the most crowded hospitals in big cities etc. I don't use it, too, but I had opportunity to visit some public health centers during the pandemic for vaccines and have also visited some hospitalized people in public hospitals (big cities) and my impression has been good. Of course that if you can pay, you will have more comfort in private hospitals etc., but if you have no money, unemployed etc. at least you have a chance.

    • @nancyleal2529
      @nancyleal2529 Год назад +11

      @@leonardopab5, by your name you are Brazilian, too. Why some of our compatriots have difficulty in recognizing good things and only listen to a sensationalist TV? There are also very good public hospitals etc. around the country. I myself had a relative who suffered a heart attack traveling in the northeast and had his life saved in a public hospital (and didn't pay a cent). Later I knew that it was the best cardiac hospital of the region. We are probably one of the few countries where you won't be "forgotten" even if you are a foreigner, non resident, without any health insurence card, in case of accident or if you are unconscious and won't pay anything because someone will call a public ambulance and you will be taken to a public hospital. The priority is to save the life of a human being... So, let's value what deserves to be valued.

      Claro, as cidades grandes lotam, impossivel não lotar com a grande quantidade de pessoas, mas é sempre melhor ter as duas opções, do que só ter uma do setor privado que é abusiva como nos Estados Unidos.
      Pode reclamar do SUS, e de sugestões, ele tem problemas e precisa de gente com solução pra esses problemas.
      Mas nunca aceite uma solução que sugerer descartar ou se livrar do SUS, jamais. Pois embora pareça uma linda maça o que oferecem, na verdade por dentro esta envenenada, e estariamos sofrendo igual os americanos se não fosse esse equilibrio que temos sustentando. E se o povo tiver bom senso, continuara a sustentar.
