    1. Phife’s “Above the Rim” reference was referring to a song by the 90s R&B group BBD, whose poster he’s saying the girl had on her wall. The movie “Above the Rim” with Tupac actually came out shortly after, but that was kinda random coincidence.
    2. “I’ll have ya weak in the knees/ and you can hardly speak” is a nod to the SWV song “Weak.”
    3. “Electric Relaxation” is from Tribe’s album Midnight Marauders, which came out in 1993.

    Hi!
Electric Relation was recorded (along with the rest of the Midnight Marauders album) in 1993, but the single was released in March of 1994 (the Midnight Marauders album as a whole was released in November of 1993).
The movie Above the Rim premiered on March 23rd, 1994. So, it was just a coincidence that Phife Dawg's lyrics happen to say "Above the rim". Electric Relaxation wasn't even a song featured on the movie soundtrack.
But around that years, street ball competitions were a huge thing, and it was likely just a matter of the culture influencing Phife's lyrics, just as it did the filmmakers that made the movie Above the Rim.

@@NLTwon that you weren’t really rocking with it. You didn’t seem very enthused especially compared to other RUclipsrs reacting to this song. And, assuming from the title, you like mumble rap more than this. Which is disappointing lol mumble rap is trash and literally every beat sounds the same

man, im sorry u wasnt feeling this track, this was a big tune. Been enjoying ya page. I do wish music reaction pages weren't always flooded with artist's radio songs. We all know, its not usually the people that create the hits, its the labels/radio. If I had to make a recommendation from this same album, it would be "Midnight" or "Lyrics to go". I think you'd enjoy those more.

Music changes but it shouldn't go from good to worse. Mumble rap and trap are the worst things to happen to black music.

agreed, mumble and trap is what happens when white record executives push garbage to stifle the black community, our music used to be concious and now its garbage same subject matter no questioning bosses etc .
