The lineup in Houston was Cypress Hill, The Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, BustaRhymes, Nas, Spearhead, and some assholes named Call of the Wild. They were awful. I left after Cypress Hill because I was wasted. I missed Ziggy Marley.

All those people that went in 2016, for me it was Phife and Prince. A lot of other artists died that year and I don't want to disrespect them, but Phife and Prince were the ones that I'd loved since childhood. The ones that made me properly lose myself. The proper artists.
Watching a young guy rock out like this to such an artistic classic by such talented musicians makes me feel warm inside. This is the way, my friend.

Do the album. This was back when hip hop artists were very talented. Nobody sounded like anybody else.
If you didn't have the talent back then you COULDN'T get in the studio. Everyone had their on flow. The rap styles were diverse and good.
There was nothing like rapping this song on the back of the bus with my boy on the way home from middle school, going back and forth just like Q-Tip and Phife, having the whole bus rocking.

I'm so jealous, that had to be an amazing experience! I didn't discover them until I was a teenager in the late 90s, and I wasn't allowed to go to any concerts at all by my very conservative parents at that time. I was into only heavy metal at the time, and I downloaded some Tribe on Napster and I was like, "Oh my god, where were you all my life!" I went down the hip hop rabbit hole, and it expanded my whole musical universe. To this day, I love so many types of music, and I realized that there were so many amazing artistic talents across all genres. Phife was a genius.

Tribe's second album, Midnight Marauders is straight HEAT!!! My favorite hip hop group ever! Check out their documentary as well, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest...it's really good.
Marauders is actually their third album. We can't forget the first, People's Instinctive Travels... you're right though, Marauders is incredible.
This is one of the best albums of all time. One of those listen to the whole thing without skipping any songs.

I was too young to listen to Tribe when they came out (born in 1989) but I got massively into them as a teenager and saw their last performance ever in NY opening for Kanye. Nothing touches this era of Tip production.
Still the greatest hip hop group of all-time in my opinion. So creative, so smooth and did it hit after hit. I was fortunate to be DJ'ing in the day when these guys dropped. I never get tired of hearing them.

The Hammer proper rap is not pop if you call it that then stop line was an indirect diss to MC Hammer. Q-Tip was trying to defend MC Hammer's place in hip hop because the community looked down at him and called him a pop star but MC Hammer took it the wrong way and dissed Q-Tip in a song called Break Em Something Proper.
Is that why De La an him had beef?

Yes. Do the whole album reaction if you can! This album is what really first got me into hip hop. I saw the Buggin Out video on BET and copped the album immediately. That was it! The tracks on 'Low End Theory' flow all together from start to finish and doesn't let up like a well oiled cohesive unit. The tracks are to serve the album and not thrown in as a few hit songs amongst the forgettable. The whole album is the booty. My thing I enjoy mostly is Q-Tips vocals combined with the bass lines of Ron Carter, a legendary Jazz Bass player.
