      Of the shows listed at 1:20, I'm most hopeful for TOH. I'm still hopeful for "Harley Quinn" & "Camp Cretaceous", both of which also have lots of good action, representation, & discussion content for a psych major ;) I also recommend AppleTV+'s "Prehistoric Planet", a new "Planet Earth"-type series w/music by Hans Zimmer, narration by David Attenborough, & the best CGI dinos/prehistoric animals you've ever seen (which would greatly complement CC).

I love those as much as anyone can reasonably love a tool. Yet somehow, whenever one of them has gotten damaged or scuffed, I have never, not ONCE, kissed them on the forehead.
      If you think Silco cares about Jinx only, or even mostly, because of her utility to him, you are looking at some things in a very prejudiced manner - because Jinx has not been very useful to him at all, and he KNOWS this. She has been a net detriment to him by causing turmoil in his crew, killing several Enforcers during her little heist (which HE in turn had to spend time, money and effort defusing with Marcus), and causing him concern. Not to mention she downright assaulted him last episode. We just saw Silco, groggy from having been drugged unconscious, pick up a scalpel and threaten Singed out of the mere worry that he had failed to save Jinx' life... and Singed has been not just useful, but INVALUABLE, to Silco's operation. If he's willing to do THAT to an ally that valuable, it seems entirely unreasonable to even THINK that he would remain seated while Jinx stabs him in the cheeks just because he thinks she might prove useful some day. Heck... if Sevika had done something like that, he would have had her killed without a second thought.
      Silco's outlook on Jinx' future potential is not glee that she'll be able to be useful to him... it's a parent's pride that she is growing and becoming all that she can be. Only a parent would indulge her the way he does.

  • @soulstice94

    A common and very probable fan theory about the monster story Vi told Cait is that the real monster that showed up wasn't Silco, it was herself when she hit Powder and demeaned her with the "Jinx" title.
    There's so many little details that if you go over them again, or watch some breakdowns of the episodes/characters etc that it's absolutely mind blowing at how much love and care they put into this series.
    For example the scene of Viktor running for the first time: in the background are boats, a call back to him with his toy boat that he could keep up with as a kid, now Viktor is running past the boats in background.

    • @Hohum37
      @Hohum37 Год назад +18

      I agree with this theory - the monster was her own anger. She's had many years to consider this.

    • @Fangtorn
      @Fangtorn Год назад +21

      I personally don't buy that theory. It's clear that Vi has a lot of guilt and remorse for what she did to Powder, but I don't think she sees herself as a monster, nor do I think the show is trying to suggest she's one. To me Vi tells Caitlyn the monster story as a way of saying what happened to Powder _was_ her fault because she didn't protect Powder from Silco. Silco is her monster and part of her determination to take him down is to make up for running away the first time.

    • @Real_Genji
      @Real_Genji Год назад +4

      I thought the monster was the LITERAL monster which was the blond kid on Shimmer who killed Benzo

    • @soulstice94
      @soulstice94 Год назад +9

      I see both Vi and Silco as the monsters being a pretty valid view point. I personally think the point of the escalating monster story was to hint that Vi feels that she was the monster, except instead of being able to chase imaginary monsters away, she couldn't chase herself away to save Powder in that moment.
      When she punch Powder, and saw the blood on her hand, she had a very clear moment of realization of what she had just done and I don't doubt for a second that she wouldn't think of herself as a monster for what she did.
      I also don't believe the monster she was talking about was the Shimmer punk kid as when he showed up Vi didn't run she tried to fight him, then Shimmer'd Vander killed him before the building collapsed.

    I'm so glad we finally get more insight into Mel. Before this episode anyone could have easily placed Mel under a label of someone that was just manipulating everyone around them for their own gain, and while it's true that Mel set the game up so the outcome turns out to be beneficial for her, she also genuinely does want to avoid conflict. We all asumed that she wanted to start a war between Piltover and Zaun when she asked Viktor and Jayce to build Hextech weapons, but the scenes that truly changed my mind on that were the opening scene with her mother and the scene with the Council. Mel's 'sentimentality' that got her banished was truly on full display there, especially when talking about war. The issue is, he has is own abandonment issues which i think show in this episode - where he is willing to do anything to keep her alive, but also previously where Vi coming back scared him to death, coz he knows he could lose Jinx coz of her. I think him and Jinx actually love in a very similar way, very strong but very selfish types of love. Jinx cannot handle the existence of Caitlin coz she is a threat to take her sister away, Silco cant handle Vi coz she is a threat to take Jinx away.

    6:05 I know what Kenny meant, but I don’t think he explained it well enough to Montana (which was frustrating because I used to think like her until nearly the end of the show).
    What truly matters above all is how every single time Jinx causes him trouble, Silco will still ALWAYS deflect blame to someone else, whether that is Sevika or Marcus. Not once did Jinx do as it was expected of her - in fact, the repercussions of her actions are astronomical and sometimes far out-weight the benefits provided -, and yet, she’s still Silco’s number one. Sevika and Marcus are constantly pointing this out (“she’s a problem and we all know it”; “she’s gone too far this time”), for which Silco dismisses and even threatens them. Those aren’t the actions of someone who only sees you as a tool. Those are the actions of someone who loves you.
    This is clearly a discussion that the show wants to be had (thus, I'm happy that Kenny and Montana disagree at the moment), and, ultimately, I think the answer is a mix of Silco recognizing her potential as both a tool, and as a human being - who he deeply relates to and loves for it.

    So Silco loves Jinx as much as he can as a father. But note, that he probably NEVER had a caring family either. That's not something that is ever looked into in this show, it's not something that is discussed, but we can guess through how he treats others in general, and where he is now, his family life was never great either. It is DIFFICULT, although not impossible to be a good father, without having a good upbringing yourself. Like I said, it's not impossible to be a good person and good parent, but it is more difficult. (A real life example of someone who turned out to be a good father to his children without having a good upbringing is Eminem). So I think Silco genuinely tries to show her love and care, the best ways he knows how. Not only is she in a high position in his faction, but he takes special care of her, pretty much gives her the freedom to do whatever she wants for the most part, lets her get away with more than he would others (where he would just probably kill others if they did the things Jinx does with him), trusts her 100% with both dangerous, and sensitive things he wouldn't let others know or do. Not only that, but he gives her guidance when needed, confidence when needed, and stern words as well when she does do something that is over the line.
    So Tl;dr, Silco trusts Jinx, cares for her, and loves her, but may not show it in traditional ways as he himself is a broken person with a hard past.

    about Silco: I am not sure _he_ sees it as eplotative. He _believes_ in the Nation of Zaun. Everything he does is for the greater good. Whenever he 'uses' Jinx, In his mind she is fighting for a righteos cause.
    Same with the babtism scene: Silco _believes_ that this will heal her, make her fully Jinx and bury Powder once and for all. He equates his own self with Jinx, which speaks to a certain amount of dissconect, but not malice. He cannot see that Jinx and he are fundamentally different and have very different approaches to trauma.
    Jinx doesn't care about Zaun. I don't think that has _ever_ been a priority for her. She cares about her immediate surroundings. SHe wants to prove herself to Silco, she _wants_ to be loved and Silco is giving her what she needs in that regard. What she _doesn't_ want is confronting her trauma, which would be waht she _needs_ to do to heal, preferrably with a licenesd Therapist....

    • @Mi_Z
      @Mi_Z Год назад +5

      Jinx has always felt a need to prove herself to her family ... be that Vi when she was younger, or Silco currently. When she killed enforcers, it was to prove her worth to her 'family' (again, Silco). And I agree, I see no evidence that she really cared a great deal about Zaun or revolution... and even referred to the gemstone as 'that stupid stone.' Regardless, her little murder sprees are certainly not due to Silco using her as an assassin (which strangely some people still cling to as his motive w/ Jinx).
      As for confronting her trauma, that'd be nice. Silco could use a therapist as well. Heimerdinger probably should see one too... maybe get a session on how time works and how humans tend to not live forever...
      Unfortunately the only licensed medical professionals in Zaun are that that toothy potion maker who needs to find a new office after Vi destroyed her neighborhood... and Dr Singed and his cave of horrors.

Also the genius parallel of him not being able to outrun his toy-boat as a kid (running from left to right of the screen) compaired to the scene here, where he runs (from right to left) against the parallax effect of ships in the background falling behind! actually season 2 is already done being animated, you should watch ARCANE-BRDIGING THE RIFT which is a 5 part making of documentary on leagues youtube channel, which also goes into detail as to why this show took so long (finding the right people for certain things, the show not being green lit that fast and almost canceled, and fortiche also needed more time to develop their animation style/system, etc) and is also worth it because it gives more context to the effort that went into this from the beginning)
    and at some point in part 5 they say that season 2 is done being animated so editing, sound etc will take some time but since fortiche already figured out the animation its not like they start completely from scratch which is why it "only" took them a year to animate the second season (also they had to massively hire for arcane and season 2 was pretty quickly announced and green lit so they probably will keep the staff, saving them even more time)- im guessing some time 2023 probably later down the year but id be surprised if it released in 2024

      He has knick-knacks on his desk, a mug and ashtray, made by a younger Powder with her designs on them ... very much like a father would.
      It's not like he viewed her simply as a tool, or just appreciated her skills/intellect. If that was the case, he would have treated her in a very different manner previously. And he'd probably not undermine his crimeboss persona in front of his underlings with a Jinx-y coffee mug sitting right on his desk.
      -- SPOILERS --
      If you have watched the entire show, you can see how he really feels about Jinx. There are multiple scenes demonstrating his love for her in the final episode. I do not play League, I do not want to. But I became infinitely fascinated by the lore, after this show (the gray areas, the themes of duality and nuance). (Not spoilering)- it's not in the video but for example, Singed (the bald doctor)'s lore is fascinating. The video I mentioned is a great (but shallow) overview of the whole world, of Runeterra, and a glimpse into each major city. To quote creators of the show "I could see myself telling stories in this world for 30 years". And the lore really backs that up. There's a lot to love in this universe- super-popular MOBA game with an imfamously toxic fanbase be damned.

    The worst thing about Mama Medarda's decision to kill the girl? She was probably right. History is FULL of examples of conquerors showing mercy to the former depot, only for them to come back later as the leader of a rebellion. So she's not wrong about only one needing to die vs potential thousands. It's the fucked up reality of a warfaring state. Also, being a warfaring state in the first place is fucked up, but that's another discussion entirely.
    Oh, an addon: It's not even necessarily the old leader's fault for the rebellion. An example is Toyotomi Hideyori from early 17th century Japan. He was the son of the former leader of Japan, and the one who took over (Tokugawa Ieyasu) allowed him to live and simply sent him away (Hideyori was a young child when it all went down). However, over time a bunch of the prominent lords who had been on the losing side when Tokugawa took over began to rally behind the grown-up Hideyori, using him as their symbolic right to rebel. Hideyori seems to have been pretty hesitant about the whole thing, but he ended up being the lords' excuse to begin stirrings of rebellion in the name of restoring the Toyotomi to their 'rightful' place as leaders of Japan. Tokugawa saw what was happening and deliberately provoked Hideyori in order to get him to take a stance, and he ended up choosing rebellion. Thus Tokugawa had two of the last great sieges of the era. In the end he was victorious, Hideyori committed seppuku, and Tokugawa had Hideyori's wife and children killed to avoid any future problems of the same sort from occurring. Fucked up, yet his decision led to 250 years of peace in Japan.
    Another addon: *spoilers for last episode* the Council was wrong, but so was Vi. She was blinded by her own perception and hatred of Silco, and her desire to get Powder back. She said that Silco couldn't be talked to, and yet in the very next episode he goes to negotiations with Jayce. Not only that, but if it wasn't for the demand of turning over Jinx, Silco probably would have gone through with it. So, while it's easy to side with Vi, since she's basically the main character (along with Jinx), she's actually very much wrong there. She doesn't care about what's best for the undercity in that meeting, she just wants Silco to get taken down so she can get her sister back. And as the real kicker, the *only* reason Jacye demanded Jinx is because Vi ratted her out to the council.
    Also, technically Jayce HAS been to the Undercity. It started the whole plot, in fact. He went down to Benzo's shop to buy illegal stuff for his experiments, leading to Little Man giving Vi the tip to rob him.

      "And as the real kicker, the only reason Jacye demanded Jinx is because Vi ratted her out to the council"
      Yep, and I have yet to see a single reactor comment in their videos when Vi gives up her sister's name. It's a betrayal... but for whatever reason most people just let it slide.
      I guess because Vi is coded as the hero, so it's assumed she is 'right'.
      Pretty much everything she did at that council meeting was wrong. Her plan was stupid, she was wrong about Silco negotiating, and by giving up her sister's name, she, well, put her on the council's radar.
      She was blinded by her hatred of Silco. And the thing is, I can't say she was even doing it to get her sister back at that point -- I mean what was her plan, to bring down Silco, get her sister back (somehow)... then since she ratted out her sister, watch her get arrested and rot in jail?
      It's not like the council is going to let it slide just because Vi called her 'Jinx' instead of 'Powder'. Somehow I doubt that works as a defense in a court of law.

I feel like the writers did him a great service by not having him betray and leave Jinx once she was no longer useful to him just because 'he's the bad guy and that's what bad guys do.' I absolutely despise him as a person but he is absolutely one of the best characters of the show.

    When Viktor merged with the hexcore thru shimmer, Jayce and Mel were "merging" simultaneously (ep5). When JINX was merging with shimmer thru the doctor, Cait and Vi were "merging" simultaneously. So yeah, they got it on off screen.
