  • I decided to try a website template from Envato Elements and I'm really happy with the results.
    Some details:
    👉🏽 I used "Juno" from Envato Elements (I have a subscription for my RUclips Channel)
    👉🏽 In this video, my website is being hosted by HostGator, right now it’s on Duda, and soon I might move to Cloudways.

      @Alana Jen I'm not a fan of CMS templates only because I prefer WordPress and it's over all convenience.
      I think this video could be expanded into a playlist of steps that show how to navigate Envato, How to upload the file via FTP or WebFTP or CPANEL, etc. even if the videos were 60 second clips.
      Who knows, maybe your videos will start popping up when people search in Google for "How To" advice.
      NOTE: I'm working on doing that right now for certain tools as well.

    I use the Envato 'Enfold' theme for one of my main sites and I really like it. I didn't know about Envato Elements, but I really need to check it out! Thanks for sharing this 👍 I agree with you about having to code something like this from scratch. We do mostly web hosting, but when we do any dev work we always use WP themes and settled on that being our standard. It makes things so much more efficient. @@alanaATX got a hardware question : rendering seems to take forever on my regular i5 laptop. Should I beef upto a gaming laptop with graphics card to speed up the workload?

    • @alanaATX
      @alanaATX  2 года назад +1

      @@jameslau5497 In my limited experience with rendering (videos, I'm assuming 😅), upgrading to a discrete/dedicated graphics card from an integrated one should help to improve rendering times.
      If you're using Premiere Pro, here's a great article from Adobe that might help: helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/hardware-recommendations.html.
      If you're using Davinci or some other video editing software, you might want to find out which processing unit these programs are more optimized for to help you figure out which kind of build you should focus on.
      If video editing is your primary goal though, then a gaming laptop might not fit the bill and cost you much more than you need to pay, mainly because gaming laptops prioritize low latency in the network card, FPS synergy between the display, gpu, and CPU, responsive keys and keyboard design, etc. All things that are expensive to do but essentially non-factors for video editing. At the same time, storage is a big deal for video editing but not so much for gaming.
      But if gaming is a priority for you, I'd get a system that supports that and let the chips fall where they may for everything else, including video editing (however, rendering times should still improve due to the discrete graphics).
      My 2 cents, and I hope it helps. Best to you!

      The rendering issue has pushed the limits of my hardware and yes, you are spot on- it does need dedicated hardware. Maybe an idea for an upcoming video?
      Anyway, I'm blown away by the generosity of your response. Thank you and total new fan.

    Can we download a theme template from envato and use it on our shopify store for life time. Even after our envato subscription if expired and we didn't renew it ? But we are using the website theme for the same project which we use to download the theme. Please clarify

    • @alanaATX
      @alanaATX  Год назад

      Hi, Fardin. In my experience, yes. As long as you license your theme for your website and use it only for that website, then your license is supposed to last for the lifetime of that site, even if/when you cancel. This is what Envato promises in their TOS and what has been my experience. I even canceled for almost a year and didn't have a problem with any of my assets. I have a few pieces of advice, tho. First, download the corresponding license and save it on file so you always have it, and secondly, license every time you download, even if you don't end up using the asset. Hopefully that helps. Best!

  • @JoinDrSuri
    @JoinDrSuri 3 года назад +2

    It is such an informative and helpful video. Thank you!
    I wonder how you feel about the dependence of having an Envato's active subscription to keep using these effects vs. other one-time purchase plugins. Do you feel like it's worth from that financial perspective?

    • @alanaATX
      @alanaATX  3 года назад +2

      Thanks so much for watching and for your question 😄
      According to their licensing agreement, license registration is per use and future proof, so since I registered the template for my website at a specific domain, I'm supposed to have that license for the lifetime of the domain, even if I cancel my Envato subscription. I wouldnt, however, be able to use the template on a different domain name without getting a separate registration for it, which you can only do with an active subscription...hope that makes sense.
      So assuming they honor that commitment, id say they're definitely worth it. Ive used them for all of my stock footage, some music, stock photos, fonts, motion graphic templates for after effects, website templates etc. Their library is insanely valuable imo.
      Early on, music tracks in my videos triggered the copyright claim on yt, but the disputes went through quickly and i haven't had a claim for quite some time.
      The real test is if I cancel. Will they honor their future proof promise? I suppose I could test to see what happens...might be worthwhile to see and to know that my future content is safe license wise 🤔 😮 thanks for the idea! 😄
      I hope that answers your question 😊 and I am grateful for your support 🙏 💖

      @@alanaATX Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed reply. I appreciate your take on it.
      Honestly, I love some of Envato elements I have come across, but have always been hesitant. If it's true that once downloaded, I can use the elements for life, then that would be a game changer. Tho, I do wonder if they will actually honor their "for life" policy.
      Do let me know if you test it out, tho might not be worth the risk. 😜

    • @alanaATX

      Hi Bindu! Unfortunately your hands are a bit more tied with Wix. While they give you the ability to add custom html via iFrames (which you should probably stay away from if possible) and custom Javascript and Databases using Velo, they don't let you upload your own templates or themes. But you can do a lot of customization on the themes they do have. Hope that answers your question 🙏 Thanks so much for watching and commenting 💖

    • @alanaATX
      @alanaATX  22 дня назад

      Hi Nazrin, I'm so sorry for just now seeing your comment 6 months later! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 My best guess would be that the jpg files were packaged incorrectly, or in a way that is incompatible with whatever app you're trying to use to open them. I imagine you've probably either solved your problem or have moved on by now, but for anyone who sees this and is having a similar problem, you could try renaming the extension from .jpg to .jpeg, or vice versa, and see if that fixes the problem. If you can't see file extensions in your file explorer, there is a setting to show them. For Windows, you'd select "view file name extensions" under the View tab in File Exlporer. For Mac, it would be under the advanced tab in Finder. So sorry again for the extremely late reply!

    • @alanaATX
      @alanaATX  Год назад

      Hi Ruben, thanks for the question. I used Visual Studio but even notepad or the iOS equivalent will work. You only need a HTML file (.html extension) and a CSS file (.css extension) - make sure both files are in the same location or folder because the html file references the CSS file. Yes, you can just copy the html code into the .html file as is and the css code into the .css file as is. You can find more detailed instructions, the copy and paste code, as well as the download files at www.alanajen.com/website-template
