My house is built on top of what must be a prehistoric-size ant colony. I get periodic ant invasions that are like something from a horror movie. I tried everything, from home remedies to professional products. Greg's formula works like a charm! I find that one application is all it takes to stop the ants and keep them from coming back. Now I keep a bottle handy for wherever the next invasion may occur. Thank you, Greg!

Great! Thank you for letting us know. I found ant colony in the garden of the house we moved in, the garden was neglected for 20 years. I cleaned up, made nice flowerbeds, however later on I noticed some plants dried out despite watering... under the old tree, between it's roots is enormous ants colony, it's like a rabbit hole, don't know how deep it goes. I bought available ant killers like powders but ants just walk through with no harm, my plants covered in aphids... I'll try borax ss my last hope...

mrshammerhankus no because dead ants release a chemical that other ants pick up. Ants are always following certain smells. If too many dead ants gather around the food source, they will know something is not right.

A great video, but here's some more useful info:
    - It's best _NOT_ to use a spray bottle for this. The sweetness will attract many helpful insects (and small animals). I've had success exterminating Carpenter Ants by placing this solution in a used up margarine container filled with holes so that mostly ants get in (no bees, etc.). Tear up some cotton batten to soak up the borax mixture so that the ants can carry it right to the queen rather than dying along the way.
    - NOTE: Some ants prefer protein to sugar, so a different mixture containing peanut butter and borax may be more appropriate.
Thanx for sharing your video here!

Any suggestions besides napalm? The only luck i had with boric acid was with another mound, i mixed it with crushed pecans and it knocked the whole den out in less than2 days with less than a tablespoon. These ants seem to carry off everything ive tried to get them to eat ,,

I had a bad sugar ant problem for 3 years. Ran across an article instructing me to mix about one (1) tablespoon of borax (I used 20 Mule Team Laundry Booster....Boraxo hand cleaner will work fine also)) with about three (3) tablespoons of jelly (I used grape because I had some on hand). Stir in the borax with a spoon....just mix them up together.....and put some on a paper plate where they will find it easily, and give it about 24-48 hours. My ants were gone in 12 hours. Some ants are attracted to peanut butter. Using the same ratio, mix up some borax and peanut butter and place it the same way as the jelly mixture. I placed a jelly mix and a peanut butter mix side by side. Kind of an "ant PB&J sandwich"?
Result the same. Ants are gone. Not even dead ants to clean up. They just disappear.
I also had ants invading my cat's canned food dish. Will try that next time.
THIS IS SAID TO BE NON TOXIC BUT I WOULD PREVENT ANIMALS FROM GETTING DIRECT ACCESS OR CONTACT WITH THIS ANT CONCOCTION.
I have spent money on products that make big promises but don't deliver the results.
I used some jelly I had left over in the kitchen and a 76 oz box of the laundry booster set me back $5 +/-. I may need to put out some ant bait once in a while as new ants hatch but eventually they will all die out, and setting out a little of this ant sandwich once in a while is no big deal and it WORKS! and is CHEAP!
Borax is pretty amazing stuff my grandmother used all the time around the house and it still out performs many specialty products like "Mop-N-Glow" and household bleach (and is much safer around pets and children).
With ants, borax is a slow acting poison that the ants transport back to the colony and kill the whole colony including the queen.

Mix dry granulated sugar and like granulated borax and put it into small containers where you have seen ants traveling. The theory is, the ants will carry both the sugar and the borax to their nest for the winter. The following spring there should be no more ants in that nest. This is for the long term and only gives animals and children the runs if they get into it.

I made a mixture of honey and borax with a 2:1 ratio for the adults, and a powdered sugar and borax mix for the larvae. Deposited both mixtures at every entry point I could find. It seemed to work at first, but then after a few days they returned, walking past the baits as if nothing have happened. I set brand new mixtures, and they actively avoided and ran around them.
It could just be a neighbor's ant infestation moving in to replace the ones killed, or my ants are extremely intelligent.

  • @SeanWyseman
    @SeanWyseman 8 лет назад +36

The reason it works is because the ants take it back to the queen and feed it to her. When she dies the entire colony dies. If all borax did was kill a few hundred ants the queen would keep the colony going. You have to kill the colony and that's what makes the borax work so well.

I used a spoon full of boric acid (roach kill) and about a 1/4 cup of corn syrup. Stirred it up in a paper cup and sparingly placed with a spoon or stick across the trails around the house. Only used outside to draw them out of the house. And always where animals could not get to it if there was any leftovers. It always worked great and lasted a long time.

Fortunately, I don't have a great ant problem, but every bit of knowledge helps prevent an infestation. Thanks.

Hey Greggo, just found your gardening channel. Real fine stuff. I have use borax and sugar paste in a coffee can lid to wipe out ant infestations. We seem to think the borax is alkaline as well as indigestible, so the ants get alkalized and their gut gets filled with the stuff and it plugs them up and they croak from bloating.

I had what I think are called "crazy ants" in a truck I just bought. I tore the front seats and center console out and put that mixture right on the bare metal where the seat mounts are because that's where they looked to be coming from. I only put a small amount so it kind of pooled up and sat. I went from seeing anywhere from one to a half dozen ants in that area to only seeing one in the last day. One word of warning, once it dried out the residue stuck to the metal and nothing would get off except a razor blade. If I do it again, I'll put the mixture in a little container of some sort,

+Marc Ifurung I think the problem is that the worker ants die too fast. Good ant poison works slowly so the worker ants live long enough to feed the ant queen(s) with the poison so the queen(s) will die too. Even if thousands of worker ants die a large ant colony will still survive, since the queen will simply produce additional ants..

Yea but that doesn't kill the queen just a small percentage of workers. Borax gets taken to and fed to the queen and the rest of the hive. They all die and with no queen there are no more ants. It takes about 24-48 hours for borax to kill an ant which is plenty of time for the entire hive to eat some
