Spider-Man: Homecoming & Silicon Valley's Martin Starr Goes Comic Book Shopping with Collider

- In a new episode of Comic Book Shopping, we’re joined by Spider-Man: Homecoming actor Martin Starr to chat about the Marvel Studios movie, its mini-Freaks and Geeks reunion, favorite comics, and more. Do you like comics and celebrities who also happen to like comics? You’re in luck! We at Collider have you covered with our new series Comic Book Shopping. Each episode will find a different celebrity or personality going to a local comics shop with host Jon Schnepp and sifting through and discussing their favorite comics.
In this third episode, Starr joins Schnepp to talk about his role in the Marvel Studios film while perusing a variety of comics at Meltdown Comics. Starr’s dry comedic sensibility is on full display throughout, but the actor also discusses the comics origin of his character in Homecoming and how the film is a Freaks and Geeks reunion of sorts given that co-star John Francis Daley co-wrote the script. Starr also talks about some of his favorite comics, the first comic he fell in love with, and comics-friendly safewords to use during S&M.

What did you think of the movie man?
Star Lord, LOVED it my dude. Marvel delivered in every way. Spidey finally feeling like a kid, messing up constantly but still trying, showing how the life of a superhero isn't always non stop action 24/7, taking liberties that work, NY felt like a character and it felt like a realistic NYC, a great villain, avoiding cliches, etc,.
Also the best comedy I've seen since Deadpool. I haven't seen a movie where EVERY joke landed in my first viewing in a really long time.
I would've done some things differently, but they really nailed it. Can't wait to see Spidey be the face of the MCU down the line.

@@AlexLove631 Great movie but they fucked up Spiderman, he should be Miles Morales not Peter Parker, he goes to a school for geniuses, asian best friend, didn't design his own suit, and doesn't have financial troubles (at least none that are discussed)

Star Lord the movie is now my favorite Spiderman movie. it gave me everything I wanted in a Spiderman adaption. the only thing I wish was in the film was a direct line referencing uncle Ben instead of peter just alluding to it.
The Real Michael Garcia Yeah it's my new favorite too. I was initially skeptical going in, feeling Feige was gonna drop the ball on this one. Hehe.......I was so wrong.
Star Lord the trailers definitely decreased my hype even though I knew Sony was marketing it. once the marvel studios logo with the 60s theme song played in the movie though my hype was completely restored and I knew spidey was home

Martin Starr (Bertram Gilfoyle) is definitely one of my most favorite characters on HBO's Silicon Valley. His deadpan humor on that show outshines all the other VERY talented actors... and yes, I am including T.J. Miller in that list.
OMG I LOVE THAT THIS SERIES EXIST! Perfect for John Schnepp, and it's always wonderful to hear him talk about comics with such love and admiration for them.
Absolutely love this series! Couldn't have picked a better host than Schnepp and he plays really well with the guests. Can't wait for the next one

Criminal Vol.1 is fantastic. Criminal got me hooked on any Brubaker/Phillips collaborations. Too good. I have to go through my collection of TPBs and HCs and decide what I'm taking with me. Moving from Milwaukee to Vegas in Oct. and can't take it all. The stuff that I consistently re-read is being shipped ahead of me (Sandman, 100 Bullets, Preacher, Transmetropolitan) and some slipcase HCs I can't part with (Planetary, Authority, New Frontier, Watchmen). This is killing me. It's like choosing which children to save in the lifeboat from a sinking ship.
Love me some Martin Starr, love that he's that awkward in real life, he's just like the character he is in Silicon Valley , he was awesome in Spiderman homecoming!
