John Candy is one of those actors that will live on forever. He was great in everything he did and left a huge impact.
I had the great good fortune to meet John Candy while I was working as a security guard at Toronto airport. In a two minute conversation he left me in stitches. His natural humour is infectious. When he starts laughing you can't not do the same.
I'm so envious. Lucky you!
That is awesome!
The Great Outdoors is another good John Candy showcase. Also, Summer Rental is hilarious too. Both are great movies for summer vacations.
I will for sure look into them
Hi James!
Hi Will!
I came here to say the same exact thing, looks like I'm 3 weeks late. But that's okay, how great is it that this community is thinking along the same lines? Great minds think alike, and all that... 👍🏻 Enjoying your reactions & your before & after commentary. Also, fun watching you recognize some actors, and start putting directors & films together. Keep up the great work! Take care. 👍🏻😁
-The Great Outdoors (1988)
-Summer Rental (1985)
(both are, John Candy comedies)
The great outdoors is a must
The Great Outdoors is one of my favorite movies!! John Candy is so amazing in the role!
Hell is REAL Repent of your sins and turn to God. He loves you. Believe in his Son Jesus and you'll be saved. RUclips: 30 Days Touring HELL
The phone call with Buck trying to explain to Chanice why he can't go to work. His "attempts" to speak is just pure classic and fun!!!!!
Love that
Since you've played a lot of board games, you might like the 1985 movie "Clue." It's a really brilliant adaptation of the classic board game into a movie. It's a comedic who done it murder mystery.
Oh yeah I've played Clue a ton!
@@AwesomeUSMovies I think you'd enjoy that film!
Hilarious movie
Stripes would be a fun one - Candy isn't the star but has lots of great scenes. It stars Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. Picture John Candy in basic training!
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
I love the fact you can make references now! "If you can dodge traffic, you can dodge a ball." One of favorites.
It feels so good
It's like a whole new language 👍
"If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."
We are all so proud of you, and I imagine your wife and kids are too. You're not only understanding these references now; you're making them. :)
love it!
That car and the backfire was my favorite character lol. My uncle used to have a junk car with a terrible backfire and we’ve been calling him buck for 20 years lol
This is one movie I never get tired of watching over and over again. I watched it when it first came out int he theaters, and I've watched it again dozens of times since then. John Candy (RIP) is one of the absolute best.
Trivia: The little girl who played Maisy, and the woman who played Shanice were both in Field of Dreams together as mother and daughter with Kevin Costner.
OMG!!!!! You are correct... WHY didn't I pick up on that!!!! Why! Thanks for that!
"John Candy (RIP) is one of the absolute best."
I know, right??? How many other actors are just SO likable in literally everything, from cameo to minor supporting character to main supporting character to lead/title character??
"That's a stupid thing to do during flu season" 🤣🤣🤣
Macauley made his childhood career as the ultimate precocious child. For something a little different from him - The Good Son
Uncle Buck is one of my favorite John Candy movies. He's very tender-hearted and a great uncle, even if he needs a bit of training 😅
Really good messaging about communication and openness from John Hughes. Poignant as always.
It's sooo good
*The Good Son,* also with Frodo Baggins, is a good movie.
Haha.. oh man... I HATED that movie (The Good Son). Wow. Surprised to find not just one but two people that liked it. To each their own, I guess. Nothing wrong with that.
McCauly was a pretty amazing child actor, though. First this movie. Then Home Alone and Home Alone 2. My Girl. After that he kind of disappeared.
Hard to believe Macauley is in his 40s now.
fun fact the people that owned the house used to film Uncle Buck in then moved to another house in this area which was then used to film home alone in.
Oh that's funny
Like how natural that dodgeball reference happened, he's becoming "one of us, one of us" : P
What is "one of us, one of us"???
@@AwesomeUSMovies its an old Simpsons reference.
The fact his daughter said this was most like her dad fun and caring.
Love this movie! It's funny, sweet, and Hilarious, and it's the kind of movie you want to watch over and over.
Agreed
Man I don't know how my mom let me watch this movie as a kid. But man, the clown scene always made me laugh so hard, I had tears, and it still to this day makes me laugh my ass off.
Fun Fact: The clown is played by Mike Starr, he is best known for playing one of the criminals on "Dumb & Dumber".
Loved your laughing reactions going through this. John Candy was super ! Good editing !
Oh thanks, I work hard in editing
this is a fun movie. John Hughes was huge in the 80's he made many movies trying to put a spotlight on the teen angst of those days. Sometimes still relevant. We still have teens after all. But you might want to look into some of his other works.
Will do thanks
It’s got to the great outdoors next plz with John candy and Dan ackroyd🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'll make sure it's on the list
"Who's Harry Crumb?" John Candy staple.
Dude, I think you took movies from my personal "favorite all time/most nostalgic movies" list. This is another awesome one from my childhood!
Such a classic. Based on the stuff you've enjoyed thus far, I'd recommend the Grumpy Old Men films. Not John Candy movies sadly, but I can pretty much guarantee you'll love them.
So far I've loved all the John Candy stuff
@@AwesomeUSMovies The Great Outdoors also a great John Candy film.
Yes, Grumpy Old Men is a must!!
I second this. Grumpy old men is a classic.
absolute legend john candy
He's the best
A couple Bill Murray movies I think you'd be really into:
What About Bob?
The Man Who Knew Too Little
You'll get your abs worked out laughin
Thanks, I've added all these to my list. It's appreciated
@@AwesomeUSMovies "What About Bob" is classic. You will fall over laughing! Can't wait for you to do that film!
29:21 is great. Like you’re a part of the family.
I'm so glad somebody caught that... It took ages to get it just right!
The little boy an uncle are one of my fav actors hahahah clearly thier name has lost my mind but the are Great
John Candy is a national treasure.
Of all the actors who passed away early john candy is the one i miss the most. I have never heard anyone say a bad word about him. Always a class act.
I've loved all of his movies so far!
One of my favorite movies ever!
The pancake scene is just soooo magnificent.
Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum Mr. Sandman....bring me a dream.
I loved the editing of you sitting at the table with them. I cracked up! Love your reactions!
Yay! Thank you!
“The clown’s walkin’ funny”
That’s a clown’s job. ;-)
Yeah it is
I laughed so hard when he shouted "S***!" after the pots and pans fell.
That movie was soooo funny
I grew up outside of Chicago, when a lot of these "SNL" actors were making movies. a Lot of actors that came from "Second City" comedy club, also made movies in the Chicago area. Ground hog day, planes trains and automobiles, and blues brothers had scenes filmed in my town.
good stuff thanks
John Candy was, is, and always will be a legend!!
I've seen Uncle Buck probably a thousand times it is hilarious
This is such a great movie. A fun little side note, this movie is what made Home Alone be written for Macaulay Culkin
Nice, we return to better movies than last week. Keep them coming. I'm in urgent need of seeing you watch 'Coming to America' (1988) with Eddie Murphy.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
RIP John Candy, such a funny guy.
A overlooked gem starring John Candy is "Only the Lonely". It was produced by John Hughes and stars Jim Belushi, Ally Sheedy and Macaulay and Kieran Culkin.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
This is my favorite John Candy movie. I watch it every fall with the family ☺
Bahahahahah omfg 29:20 putting yourself at the table with the girls talking 🤣🤣🤣😘😘
Love how you find the heart ♥️ in every one! ✌🏻☀️
This is one of my favorite movies from my childhood 😊
It was soo good
I can truly say I miss John Candy... he was such a good guy! Funny as heck and just a feel good guy! I understand he was a great person on the set etc... Uncle Buck is just classic fun movie!!!
I've watched a bunch of his at this point. Loved Great Outdoors
One very silly & fun John Candy film, wherin he plays the title role, is "Who's Harry Crumb?".
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Parenthood with Steve Martin is an awesome film in the same vein
I'll add it thanks
John Candy is a legend. Lost too soon but boy did we get some classics.
Agreed
So the little boy outside the principal's office reaction is genuine. He was not aware of the improvised lines John just unleashed on her. - As for going to the track, my dad took me to Sana Anita ever since I was 6 or 7 years old.
That's great
If you’re looking for recommendations in this vein- I’d recommend Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Another great comedy with John Candy. It has a lot of heart just like this one.
I've already reacted to it, please check out my reaction library. Thanks
John Hughes films are pretty much all great. Mostly set in Illinois in or near Chicago where he grew up. They include National Lampoon's Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the Breakfast Club, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Home Alone. His stories published in National Lampoon magazine about the vacations he took as a child (upon which the 1st two Vacation movies were based) are also classic.
I think Uncle Buck is my favorite John Candy movie. But he was also good in The Great Outdoors opposite Dan Ackroyd. Super talented, likeable, and funny guy but he was usually only cast in small supporting roles. I think this film shows that he deserved more than that.
I'll make sure they are all on my list.
Two of my fave childhood movies were "The Great Outdoors" and "Harry and the Hendersons".
Don't forget to one day watch his final one, Wagons East. One of the best riffs on the western genre ever.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
A must see (starring John Candy and Tom Hanks (brothers in the movie)!): The movie "Splash" (1984). If you love the way the one and for always only "John Candy" fits in his movie-charakter, YOU have to watch it! It's one of my favorites from the 80s! Love your show!! God bless you!! Bye bye from Germany ;-))
John Candy was a treasure. Gone too soon. For an uncle with no experience he did a great job with those kids. Great movie, Great reaction.
Awesome reaction, wanted to let you know ive been loving watching your videos so there was only one thing left to do and that was becoming one of your patreon members to support you for all of the amazing videos ive seen so far 👍
Thank you so much Nigel. It's appreciated
That was the best John Candy movie, Who's Harry Crumb is a close second.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
1. Many say Planes Trains and Automobiles but I say this was his best.
2, Of course it's Chicago. This is a John Hughes film.
3. Macaulay Culkin got the "Home Alone" gig because Landis loved him in this.
4. That's the same High School used by Hughes for "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Buller's Day Off".
I'll make sure I have them all. I did Home Alone for Christmas
I love UB. I liked how they pulled off the rapid fire question scene. Even though it was cuts, it works because of the to and fro between each actor. The girl who plays Maisy was in a remake of Freaky Friday. It wasn't as good as the 1976 original, but worth a watch.
cool thanks
Oh hey! My mom (who was watching this over my shoulder) just reminded me of a GREAT but very under-appreciated John Candy film, hilarious, and one of the rare ones where he's in the lead role. It's called Delirious. He plays a writer for a corny day-time soap opera who ends up trapped inside the world or the soap opera he writes for. The jokes make more sense if you've ever seen any day-time soaps before (excellent send-up of the whole genre and how ridiculous, contrived, and melodramatic the stories always are)... but... just a really really funny movie. I think in Candy's top 5 easily. Which might be... 1. Uncle Buck 2. Delirious 3. The Great Outdoors 4. Planes Trains and Automobiles 5. Spaceballs ... just in terms of Candy's role and performance in each not necessarily in terms of the quality of the film overall.
Honorable mention to Stripes.
Thanks, I've added all these to my list. It's appreciated
So glad you got to watch this! It has been one of my family favorites.
It's so good!
Hello, I am a new subscriber. Uncle Buck is one of my favorite John Hughes films. Your reaction was a blast! I really enjoyed revisiting this movie. I think this makes a great double feature with the original Home Alone!
The actress who plays the oldest sister, was so pretty.
Too much attitude for me
Amy Madigan (Chanise) & Gaby Hoffmann (Maizy) were the mother & daughter in Field of Dreams.
I totally missed that. So mad at myself
Definitely "The Great Outdoors"! And don't forget that YOU also are awesome!
Added thanks
Thanks for posting, great reaction, enjoyed laughing along with you to this classic 😁👍🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it I sure did
The neighbor Marcie(Laurie Metcalf) won 3 Emmys for the tv series Roseanne and 2 Tony Awards and had a role in Scream 2. She was also nominated for an Oscar. Chanise(Amy Madigan) is an Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner and has done lots of tv and movies including the baseball film Field of Dreams.
Wait what? No she wasn't in the field if dreams. The girlfriend was and the little girl too. Someone pointed out that I missed that connection. I also found out the neighbor was Sheldon Cooper's mom in The Big Bang Theory.
@@AwesomeUSMovies I wrote the girlfriend (Amy Madigan) was in Field of Dreams not Marcie. Check my critique.
@@AwesomeUSMovies Fun Fact: Laurie Metcalf's daughter plays the mom in the Young Sheldon series. She also played a young Jackie in flashbacks on Roseanne.
“Oh you piece of…” I believe the word you’re looking for is pissy teenager. And they all are. Haha. My kids loved this movie. Me too.
Oh I've had my share but this girl was over the top nasty
I love this movie I'm so glad you picked this one! And that was my sister growing up😱😅🤣😂😂😆
NO WAY... DUDE I'm soooo sorry
Candy is such a great comedian.
I love uncle buck! Great video!
I have a hard time seeing John Candy. He's a happy memory of my childhood now gone.
I love your reactions and I really appreciate that at the beginning of every video you briefly explain your newness to movies; there are so many reactors out there that will waste 3 minutes of our time and then right before the video starts they say, "disclaimer, I have seen this before, or they tell us I don't know anything about the movie except who is in it, what's it about, and that there is a twist or they remember some meme or nonsense. We consumers of YT want totally blind reactions, or as blind as possible; so I really appreciate what you do!!
You talk at all the right times, and are entertaining; a pleasure to watch your videos, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much. A lot of it is good editing. I talk at the wrong time all the time. I just edit myself out.
@@AwesomeUSMovies hahaha, well you have good editing skills too! I honestly only see an upward trajectory for you (subscribers, views, likes)
You are a trip to watch while high 😂 you gotta new subscriber dude 👍🤙
love love this movie. who doesn't have a uncle buck. love from kansas
I really enjoyed it
This is my favorite John Candy film. While I think Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a better film, I think this is John Candy's best performance. I love how he goes from irresponsible loser to caring parent over the length of the film. He even forgoes a huge payday so that he can look out and care for his niece, especially after everything that she had done. It really shows how much he had grown as a character and what it takes to be a good parent, or at the very least a great uncle. Great performances from the entire cast. Such an enjoyable film to watch every time.
All John Hughes films take place in the Chicago area.
Good info thanks
Macaulay SOMETHING?!?!?! I'm shook. 🤯
God this is one of my all time favourite choldhood films and films in general.
It's so good!
I agree The Great Outdoors is another good John Candy movie, along with Only The Lonely.
Added to list thanks
Added thanks
Probably my favourite John Candy movie 😀😀😀 thank you for a great reaction 😀
My pleasure!!
My favorite John Candy move, love it.
It was sooo good!
I love this movie. John Candy passed away way too young 😢
always loved armed and dangerous, john candy, eugine levy and meg ryan.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
From Chicago's northern suburbs to Indianapolis is a hair over 200 miles and just over a three hour drive.
Yeah that's an easy drive
Great movie! Great reaction!
This was a fun video. I feel like your channel has given me a renewed appreciation for John Candy. LOL
He passed away so many years ago he’s not really the topic of many current conversations. Your reactions have made me remember how great and funny he was.
Some other great movies with John Candy, not necessarily starring in the lead role, but good and interesting movies he’s great in.
“Little Shop of Horrors” (1986)
“JFK” (1991)
Added thanks
Buck is handing out Karma to that wannabe Karen. ;-D
If this was real, I'm guessing this house has a restaurant type gas stove and somehow found a piece of steel to cover the elements. ;-)
John Candy plays the coach in Cool Runnings, an enjoyable underdog story.
Yep, I already reacted to it. Go check it out!
John Candy had a small but hilarious supporting role in National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) and a bigger and still funnier one in Splash (1984) with Tom Hanks. Both also featured Eugene Levy (of American Pie and Schitt's Creek). Buck's girlfriend starred with Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams. Gaby Hoffman appeared in Sleepless in Seattle with Meg Ryan (Top Gun) and Tom Hanks, and was a regular on TV's Transparent. Jean Louisa Kelly is better remembered for Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) starring Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goodbye Girl, Steven Spielberg's Always, The American President, and What About Bob? with Bill Murray of Ghostbusters). She most recently appeared in Top Gun: Maverick.
Lots to watch
@@AwesomeUSMovies I used to have my favorite 450 movies on DVD.
You need to see Summer Rental with John it is adorable
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
My personal favorite John Candy film is a toss up between The Great Outdoors and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. John Candy was great.
I reacted to planes trains last Thanksgiving. Loved it
@@AwesomeUSMovies I watched it! Your reaction was great! It is a toss up between that and The Great Outdoors when it come to my fav John Candy films. Keep up with the reactions. You've seen some good movies and there are a lot more out there!!
Did you notice Buck had a tractor knob on his steering wheel? 🤣🤣🤣
Yup sure did
Summer rental is another good John Candy film.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Watching a movie with you is like watching with a really smart toddler. Hahaha. Your wonder is infectious. I always have fun. Thanks. A movie I have suggested a few times is a Chevy Chase movie called “Funny Farm”. One of my faves.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
It's not a John Candy or John Hughes movie but a similar movie to this in terms of comedy, drama with a touch of sweetness would be Parenthood, one of Ron Howard's earlier movies. Pretty much an all star cast as well
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Favorite John Candy movie! To think he passed away is painful...r.i.p., John. He also shows up in comedy "Splash", along with Tom Hanks...very funny!
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
you should see the toast! we couldnt even fit it through the door!~
That is funny line
Not from the US, maybe that's why those old John Candy movies just appear to be magical for me, I just love the midwest US, with those big and dense trees and mountains and vast nature and forrests. Saw many of these kinda movies in my childhood so that doesn't help haha. And apart from the settings I just mentioned, "cool runnings" was one of my dads favourite movies. Big thanks for reacting from germany. I will visit these beautiful places in my lifetime I tell you that.
Yeah Chicago is OK but nowhere near my favorite places to visit. I like mountains and trees.
Love your reaction to this movie, it’s just a fun, silly movie!
It's interesting that in the very last frame of the film, when John Candy waves goodbye he has a wedding ring on his hand, even though he's supposed to be not-yet married to Chanice. Must have forgotten to take it off on set.
Maybe... That's nice catch
That was his right hand. He had a ring on the whole movie.
