Team Mini! For media consumption I have my Mac mini connected via HDMI to my 55" 4K tv and I also have an iPad Pro 10.5 when I'm in bed or having breakfast on the kitchen table or when I'm out in the balcony...no need for me to get a big large phone!
that’s crazy, i have a 13 pro and 13 mini and i was thinking if i could chose 1 to vlog for the day i would take the mini. the size and portability is everything
This is exactly why I chose the 13 mini too! Well, apart from just loving the form factor, I also wanted to cut back on my screen on time! And I also plan to get the iPad mini for media consumption at home! 😄👍 I think those 2 devices are the perfect match! And if you get both in their basic version you pay as much as if you would only buy an iPhone Pro max! Like your thoughts and insights as a photographer - this is a refreshing other angle for a change! Just one thing: try to make longer takes! Those constant editing cuts are a bit exhausting on the eyes. Take care! 👍
After 1 month with my iPhone 13 Mini, the display seems large. Perspective changes with experience. The grip and typing, access to all areas of the screen is best! I got an iPad Mini 6 when I want a bigger screen. Btw…iPhone 13 Mini + iPad Mini 6 is same price for both as 1 iPhone 13 Pro Max.
I upgraded from 11 pro to a 13 mini and I'm loving the compact but all round performing device, nothing to complain, battery lasts long, camera is great and most importantly it fits in hand and doesn't feel heavy in a pocket like 11 pro did. Im finding it the perfect device for day to day carry!
hello! i was thinking about getting 13 mini for a second phone (coming from android) would the 60hz make any difference? i currently use a 120hz android phone.
I’m reminded of what Phil Schiller said during the iPhone 5 keynote in 2012. “It is really easy to make a new product that’s bigger-everyone does that, that’s not the challenge. The challenge is to make it better and smaller.”
Still deciding but really leaning towards the mini. I sat in the car in a busy area just to watch how people carried their phones. Small phones - in pockets; large phones - in their hands even when not in use. Hmm. Guess I decided. Thanks for this video. It’s been most helpful.
I’ve actually been hesitating between the pro and the mini so much because of that camera, mostly. I’m launching a business later this year which will require product photography, and I also do Instagram and use the telephoto lens of my 11 pro quite a lot at the moment... such a hard decision!!
Hi! I've just got my 13 mini and tbh i'm quite disappointed with the camera. There's a big problem with overprocessing and deep fusion that you can't control. I do a lot of mobile photography and the lack of possibility to switch off HDR mode just makes me very sad. People on the reddit say you can make photos look more natural later in Lightroom, but you have to have RAW format and it's obly available for Pro versions. That's why i'm actually thinking about switching to 11 Pro (mostly because of the price of 12 and 13 pro models). Did you make a decision to buy iphone 13 (mini or pro)? Can you tell me please why you weren't satisfied with it 11 pro?
Iphone 12 mini user here!! but got my eye on 13 mini in red😍 I went from a 12 pro max to the mini and no regrets!! and I havent had social media since Nov. 19th 2020 so I didnt need a huge phone anyway, screen is great on the minis, its basically near the screen size of the old plus size models. Battery is not an issue as I carry a power bank to work anyway or charge at home and in car I was waiting for a red color like my old 8 plus, may upgrade to the red one!!
Great video and observations, with a really helpful and (not surprisingly!) focused approach. 😉 I really appreciate the thought you put into how you use these devices and the systems that work best for creativity over consumption. I've also been thinking of the new iPhone mini/iPad mini combo for exactly the minimalist/essentialist points you mention. Thanks for making this video and sharing your thoughts! Really good stuff....
Bumped in to your videos, watching it twice, like the input decrease consumption and increase productivity. got my mini sold my iPhone 14 pro coz its heavy for my hand. Although I miss the telephoto. But I will explore the mini. Thanks for the video.
Iphone 13 mini with improved battery your life becomes easy.. carrying a phone seamless you can focus on other things in life.. more importantly your palm and fingers will get relaxed..
Great video! Thanks for the insights, and love your approach. Straight forward and the discipline is spot on. I was debating on whether to go for the mini for portability or the pro for the camera. Im still using a 7 Plus which is about 4 years old with me now. Thinking of starting probably a vlog with the phone for the mean time. I can totally relate with the iPad, I recently got the pro M1 and I didn't install any social media apps or distracting apps it's all for studying alone. :)
Thanks for watching! If your main camera for the vlog will be a phone then maybe the pro is your best option. ProRes can make a difference. Then again the mini is easier to hold so it’s a trade off. The M1 is a beast!
Great video!! I've had the 13 Mini since launch day and it's been a great experience... Luv the size... Plus I don't need the extra features the pro model offers! I'm not a heavy camera user not am I a video content creator. I feel it's the most underrated device of the entire 13 lineup!
This is exactly why I’ve brought an iPhone SE 2020. Spending too much time on distractions. I’m starting my journey into photography and taking my interest into a more serious hobby I am going to buy my first DSLR :)
Just went from 12 Pro Max to 13 mini...my hands appreciate how confortable is to use it, I don't feel a downgrade and I'm getting 6 to 6:30 hours of screen time, all day phone for me.
Had an 11 Pro, now a 13 Mini. As an experienced photographer, I just don’t find the 77 mm equivalent focal length that useful. If I’m going to do a portrait, I’ll do it right with my Nikon and flash. The previous 52 mm lens was more versatile, in my opinion. So, I chose mini because I like the size.
Just came across your video because I’ve been researching (and bought) the iPhone 13 mini! Thanks for the great content - lot of unique points and not trying to be like other RUclipsrs. Just subscribed! Any thoughts about Smart HDR being always on now with no way to turn it off like previous iPhones? This is true for all iPhone 13’s, including the Pros! 👀
NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE! You’re also my second video of a male photographer tonight who prefers the 13 mini over the Pro or Max!! That says a lot!!! I have the SE 2020 and have been wanting the mini since launch date! Haha
This was posted a year ago, but came across it 'photographer review' and thought I take a look. I got an 13 mini for basically the same reasons; small and cheaper, good cameras, and not really needing it for internet with my iPad and Mac available for that. For just quick snap-shot use I was at first happy with the results, but it seems with the newest iOS software the images are just way over processed. I've actually bought a 3rd party RAW camera Reeflex just to see if that could help. Videos and stabilization are great as you mentioned.
Really like your insights! I totally agree. The mini is a very liberating device, on so many fronts. Happy to pair it up with an iPad Pro and Canon R5.
Spot on my man! My thoughts exactly. I'm also a full time photographer, so it's nice to hear the experience of a fellow photog. Making the switch from Note 8 to the 13 Mini. My whole reason is less time on the phone + software support (5+ years)
@Chris Pieta only the 13 mini. Ive been with Android for 12 years. So far I’m really enjoying the simplicity of it all. I highly doubt I’ll ever jump ship to MacOs since I prefer to build my own pc. Galaxy watch and Tab S7 can still work good with the mini via Cloud and such..not so bad! How are you liking the mini? I’m still with a 5d mark iii And 85 1.2 (hard to upgrade when it works 😊)
@@EstiloInAction A used 11" iPad Pro with the 13 Mini is the way to go (same overall cost as the 13 Pro Max). Also coming from Android (Oneplus 7 Pro), don't really feel like going back. I much prefer iOS 15 to Android 12 this time around.
I’m stuck between my 11 pro and 13 mini. Can’t decide which one to pick since 13 mini is lighter and shots sharper images but 11 pro is so comfy due to it’s rounded edged body even tho it has a bigger screen and in general is a heavier phone
Funny how Apple cancelled the mini due to sales numbers but I’ve watched video after video singing the mini’s praises. The mini just needed one more year and better marketing and I think it would have taken off sales wise (but of course Apple only wants to sell a small number of the affordable option phones, and the minis were more affordable of course). A lot of us including myself discovered the mini and all its benefits late in the life cycle. I’m so happy I upgraded from a 13 Pro to the 13 Mini before they were gone.
Ironically as a first time Apple user, I bought the SE3 as I could not get my head around the £250 price difference. Gonna upgrade to that red mini when the price drops after the release of the 15 (cos that color is sick).
Great video, I agree with everything, the only thing I miss sometimes is the telephoto lens, portraits are miles better compared to those shot on the wide. Do you always use the stock camera? I was looking up some third party to get separeted focus and exposure but I can’t make up my mind between Halide, Procamera, Moments and Lightroom
I'm actually trying out Halid right now for some pro features. It's a nice app and has a lot in it. But I also like the stock camera app because it's so simple and when I reach for my phone I'm usually going for simplicity. The apps out there are powerful though
I enjoyed this. I want the mini however, my main camera is my phone and not professional gear and I enjoy photography so I’m conflicted. Thanks for your input!
Great video and very much in sync with my current older setup of an iPhone SE (2016) and an iPad Mini 5. Will likely upgrade the iPhone SE to the iPhone13-Mini as there are major improvements in all areas. Not so clear cut though when one compares the iPad Mini 5 with the iPad Mini 6 as the former still runs all my current apps (including resource intensive ones like Lumafusion @ 1080p) flawlessly.
I got the Mini as well & iPad Pro. Thanks again so much for these videos. Question. Do you use your own name or a business name for your Instagram and TikTok channels/pages? I really appreciate your reply.
Awesome! I use my business name for my photography business pages (pieta productions). I use my own name for my "teaching" business pages such as this youtube channel and my educational instagram page.
Mini is a wonderfully compact phone my only advise would be for those in an older age group category or who struggle with eye sight because the font size is noticeably smaller
I use electronics in much the same way, I've had an iPad Mini 5 since April 2019. During that time I've carried it with different phones but the iPhone 12 Mini since Nov 2020.
I currently have an 11 pro which I love but there are some things I don’t like. I am a heavy user, like I’m addicted so I feel like this iPhone 13 mini could help and I don’t miss having a lighter and smaller phone.
I have been waited for the smaller phone since years then finally replaced my iPhone XS by 13 mini. Its best phone i had ever, 5.4" is still big enough screen to write emails, posts on socials and watching YT videos or gaming. No more larger phone ever if possible. It lays in pocket perfectly no matter you're in work or on sport activities like running or biking, and completely no issues with battery working time - one day of very active up to two days when i am not using phone a lot.
Hi Chris.. Great content. I know if I buy iPhone 13 mini, then I will be super happy. I want to create RUclips videos on various topics. Could you please suggest whether iPhone 13 mini be best suit?
If it's going to be your main camera then I'd say go with the mini. Then invest the money you save into a good light and good microphone. Check out the links in my description for help there.
Sooo…. Steve Jobs was right- he said: (looking at competitor phones vs iphone5) “why would you want a larger phone?” It was unpopular opinion back then, but he was simply far ahead of his time, ten years to be exact.
i think its different tbh, now days people use phones for a lot of media consumption, like social media, youtube, movies, games and even reading. I personally have a pixel 4 and an Ipad Air and i lately not use my ipad a lot so i might go with the iphone 13PM, so i got it cover, or i might stick with the ipad and combo it with the mini
2 years ago I took the iPhone 11 pro and I didn’t use the third lens that much, now I will go for the mini 13 .. also when the thing is super professional it doesn’t mean that it’s the best. I didn’t like my pro camera IDK why 😅
Genius commentary about 3 lenses vs 2. By the time you are done fiddling with the settings and choosing the right lens, the moment has passed and the perfect shot is no longer there.
I would love to use the Mini but unfortunately I’ve used high refresh phones and pro motion iPads for years so it just feels to slow/jittery when I tried it so I went with the pro.
I got the white iPhone 13 pro max in silver 128gb and did an unboxing video on my channel too! I also did an unboxing of the spigen clear glitter case. great clear case without adding more width/weight to the phone. The iPhone 13 pro max is a great phone!!!!!!!
I didn'ty have the 12 mini but it's been reported to get an extra hour of screen on time with the 13 mini. I haven't noticed any issues with battery life, about the same as my 12 pro
I’m what way is computational photography limited by physics? About the same way as me living 300 years is.. not at all really. I get what you mean, just such an odd way to put it and I’m assuming you wrote a script and had a few drafts.. and that line still made the final cut? Anyways tho, being a guy, are your fingers constantly hitting the back camera module? I’ve heard a few complaints about that so far. Also when gaming in landscape those same cameras make the phone hard to hold.. what do you think?
You're limited by the amount of light that is actually hitting the sensor. Bigger sensor gives the phone more data to play around with. Computational photography is great but it can't create more light/data to use. That's where it's limited by the laws of physics. Haven't had issues hitting the camera module
so basically there isn't much necessity to switch from 12mini to 13mini from camera point of view bcoz not so much of a big difference...cinematic mode isn't so good seems like animation
I really liked your video. Only thing is you sound boring but please don’t take it too personal if you do. I sound worse than you. That’s why you’re the one making videos. Your explanation of how your lifestyle is with the iPhone and the iPad mini was great. I really thought this perspective was refreshing. I watched some videos of photographers’ reviews and stuff but yours was just different.
Buy the mini - if I want to take amazing pics, I take my Fuji XT camera. You save nearly 45% by buying the mini over the top of the range. It’s good enough for 99% of the population
@@ChrisPieta ok thanks. I think I’ll get the mini also because a smaller screen brings you to use less your device and increase your productivity , and that’s always a great thing!
lol, how can a professional photographer say having three lenses to choose from makes you indecisive, I know in a split second what I want and need in any given moment
@@ChrisPieta if three lenses are a problem, I can't imagine the confusion a "normal" collection of lenses on a photoshoot can cause 🤣I'm sorry, I really am just joking ... 😃 I personally can't stand the wide lenses on phone cameras, except for taking pictures of spaces and landscapes, so I really love the option of having the "telephoto": I wish the mini would have the normal wide and the telephoto, I really don't find the ultra-wide useful at all.
no one ever reviews or showcases the FRONT CAMERA in these reviews!!! i've been searching youtube for an hour now and all i got is a girl who did 1 quick selfie and showcased it. Please please for the love of God, everyone, showcase the front camera too. In this day and age of the selfies, I'm astounded how many reviewers just skip it or brush over it. Regardless, thank you for the review! It's great except the front camera's quality wasn't showcased.

What a detailed review man 👨 hats off to you. iPhone mini is a real smart phone. By the way subscribed your channel.
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words!
I got the Mini as well & iPad Pro. Thanks again so much for these videos. Question. Do you use your own name or a business name for your Instagram and TikTok channels/pages? I really appreciate your reply.
Awesome! I use my business name for my photography business pages (pieta productions). I use my own name for my "teaching" business pages such as this youtube channel and my educational instagram page.
great content . keep your pace. good work
Thank you!!
Excellent! Instant subscriber 👍🏽
Great to have you here!
Mini is a wonderfully compact phone my only advise would be for those in an older age group category or who struggle with eye sight because the font size is noticeably smaller
That's a good point!
I use electronics in much the same way, I've had an iPad Mini 5 since April 2019. During that time I've carried it with different phones but the iPhone 12 Mini since Nov 2020.
I love to hear that!
Thanks for the info.. it really helped...
Glad it helped!
I currently have an 11 pro which I love but there are some things I don’t like. I am a heavy user, like I’m addicted so I feel like this iPhone 13 mini could help and I don’t miss having a lighter and smaller phone.
I think it could definitely help
@@ChrisPieta But, the iPhone 13 is lighter than the PRO and has a better battery than the mini. So I'm deciding on the iPhone 13 MINI or iPhone 13.
@@Loreyna32 If you like the screen size of the 11 pro, stick with the 13
@@ChrisPieta ok thanks! This definitely helps.
Great review and insight (:
Thanks so much! I appreciate your comment Li
You've described the phone perfectly! Love it
thanks for the review 🙏😁
Thanks for watching :)
Sooo…. Steve Jobs was right- he said: (looking at competitor phones vs iphone5) “why would you want a larger phone?”
It was unpopular opinion back then, but he was simply far ahead of his time, ten years to be exact.
Indeed he was!
i think its different tbh, now days people use phones for a lot of media consumption, like social media, youtube, movies, games and even reading.
Mini will be a great choice for you then!
Team mini for sure!!
Amazing!
Bruh!
Insights 🤜🤛
Oh yeah!
Now I don’t feel so bad about getting the cheapest 13 XD
It's also the best hahaha
Great video and Great Content..!!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
I'm getting the iPhone 13 Mini too. Pair it with my iPad Air 4. It's great that we now consider social media consumption a factor.
That’s awesome, yeah it’s a step in the right direction
Awesome video. #TeamMini. Hugs from Brazil!
Thank you!
Genius commentary about 3 lenses vs 2. By the time you are done fiddling with the settings and choosing the right lens, the moment has passed and the perfect shot is no longer there.
Thanks Max! Yeah sometimes less options is better to capture the moment
Planning to buy one!
Amazing! Enjoy
I would love to use the Mini but unfortunately I’ve used high refresh phones and pro motion iPads for years so it just feels to slow/jittery when I tried it so I went with the pro.
I need to try one out haha
I got the white iPhone 13 pro max in silver 128gb and did an unboxing video on my channel too! I also did an unboxing of the spigen clear glitter case. great clear case without adding more width/weight to the phone. The iPhone 13 pro max is a great phone!!!!!!!
iPhone Mini + iPad Mini = elite combo
Love it!
Good explanation 👍
Thannk you!
So nice product .I use it it's my best
It is a great one!
I have the IPhone 12 Mini now, I love the size but dislike the short battery life. Is the IPhone 13 Mini any better with the battery life?
I didn'ty have the 12 mini but it's been reported to get an extra hour of screen on time with the 13 mini. I haven't noticed any issues with battery life, about the same as my 12 pro
Do you recommend upgrading from iphone 12 mini?
Battery life is a bit better and cameras are slightly better. If battery life is important to you it’s worth considering
What do you recommend iPhone 13 mini or iPhone 11
13 mini!
I went to school for chemistry so that's how my brain ticks haha
I wanna upgrade to 13 mini from the XR
That's a solid jump up! The screen will be greatly improved
so basically there isn't much necessity to switch from 12mini to 13mini from camera point of view bcoz not so much of a big difference...cinematic mode isn't so good seems like animation
Yeah the camera difference is negligble. The stabilization feature is nice for video though!
Appreciate the feedback - the monotone is strong
@@ChrisPieta aye everyone can improve because I am 😂
coolest phone ever
Totally!
Nice review- New Subscriber……
I like the mini, but watch a lot of RUclips🤔. I have the Iphone 13
Ah yeah then the big screen will help! Welcome to the channel :)
@@ChrisPieta I love the mini but can appreciate the attraction of a larger screen
What to do widget are you using
soon we will have the Mini Mini Pro Max
hahah
I'm still using iphone 6s, considering upgrade to 13 mini, price of 13 pro equal to GM lens, lol
Ha makes you wonder if the GM or the Phone is overpriced! 13 mini is a great upgrade my friend
Productive
You know it!
Buy the mini - if I want to take amazing pics, I take my Fuji XT camera. You save nearly 45% by buying the mini over the top of the range. It’s good enough for 99% of the population
Definitely!
I think its Iphone 13 mini is still a great choice
For sure!
i want this phone so bad
if only i could afford it
I used to be team Pro Max, now I’m team Mini hands down.
Welcome to the club!
Need to allow the Mini to deliver RAW files
Yeah that's really what's missing here
I want the mini purely because my Xperia 1II is fkn huge
Ha the mini is a tiny one!
Do you think the difference in night shots is so obvious to recommend a pro?
The sensors are both huge on these cameras so both have great night shots. Definitely better than my 12 pro
@@ChrisPieta ok thanks. I think I’ll get the mini also because a smaller screen brings you to use less your device and increase your productivity , and that’s always a great thing!
@@justclaud You'll be very happy with it :)
lol, how can a professional photographer say having three lenses to choose from makes you indecisive, I know in a split second what I want and need in any given moment
I said what I said
@@ChrisPieta if three lenses are a problem, I can't imagine the confusion a "normal" collection of lenses on a photoshoot can cause 🤣I'm sorry, I really am just joking ...
It's about the same from what I can tell compared to the 12 pro. Maybe slightly better but no significant improvements
What if they made an iphone mini pro
Dream phone
Honestly if they just added pro-motion to the mini, i’d get the mini
Fingers crossed for next year. Hope they don’t cut the mini line
Oh gosh you are soo handsome 😳✨
So your argument is that the Mini is a better phone because is worse to use? Kind of a bad point there.
Yes it's a better phone for me personally. I agree the 13 Pro is clearly a better piece of technology, but for my use case, the 13 mini is the winner.
Nah man I need that telephoto lense
It's a good one!
