    Definitely more detail on the Pro Max. But it really depends on what you WANT to use the camera for in particular. Because both work really well. I would say Pro Max for Photography is worth the cost, but if only for video and that video is only going to be used a few times throughout your future videos along with your bulkier cameras, to me the size and cost of the mini makes more sense.

  • @AaronTremblay
    @AaronTremblay 3 года назад +26

    Oh man, there are a couple times in there where you can see a huuuuuuge difference between the cameras. The mini looks oversmoothed and soft in video mode when the light gets low, and then way over artificially sharpened in photo mode. Even just looking at RUclips it’s apparent

    • @teemuvesala9575

  • @jamesburland
    @jamesburland 3 года назад +88

    Yeah, there’s a difference. Some of the shots were really different - and that’s even given the pretty good lighting you had. I’m curious as to RUclipsrs obsession with the Mini. I think it’s because they have plenty of camera options, hence the iPhone camera isn’t really that important to them. At the end of the day, they are probably shooting 95% of their stuff with Sony cameras.

    • @AquariumNatureLife
      @AquariumNatureLife 2 года назад +3

      The mini hits hard in a small form factor. The camera is never going to be as good as a phone with more power. To me phones are just getting ridiculously big. The mini is nice and there will be a lot of late adopters now knowing there won’t be a 14 mini. I use a phone for communication and pictures but if I was going to specifically take pictures I would rather a dedicated camera as you say.

    I can see a definite difference. The contrast is sharper and the darks are richer on the pro max, and its focus in lower light is better than on the mini. Surprisingly, some of the outdoor pictures of the mini looked a bit better.

    I actually went from the 5S to 13 Pro and now the 5 SE feels so small but the 13 Pro is still built really well that I do not feel like it's too big and I will drop it or even if I do, that it will break. ProMax for sure is too big and I don't understand why they even make those. The best size would probably be between the Mini and 13Pro if they manage to add the cameras that the 13 Pro has.

    • @teemuvesala9575
      @teemuvesala9575 3 года назад +2

      obviously, but it honestly isnt worth it. its also much harder to handle phone that size which negatively affects photography.

    • @generationdink
      @generationdink 2 года назад +1

      There are many commenters saying that the max isn't worth it. One reason seems to the differences not being wide enough. This is actually a positive for the Mini, it is absolutely incredible, but factoring in low light, sharpness and even potential for natural bokeh the pro does take a pretty clear lead.
      For me this mean a new level of indoor photography, night shots, and arguably potential for more dynamic range in video from a phone. That is also before factoring in ProRes and ProRAW, which are unlikely going to win any major awards, but may be enough alone to consider the difference in cost.
      I feel this year, a better way to look at the iPhone 13 Pro would be as a device for those who don't have a pro camera for content creation, or who don't have the budget for a high end B camera. Entrepreneurs and business owners who need to rely on the best camera they can possibly get.
      Obviously it's highly subjective, but many people are saying that something like device size has a negative affect on photography/ video which is not helpful and misleading. I know for a fact that the iPhone 13 Pro Max gets better 4K video record time and images per charge than most dedicated cameras that are larger, heavier, less portable, and that have lenses that cost much more than this device itself.
      Personally I don't like the feel of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, so I went for the 13 Pro. I have access to nice cameras but they aren't mine, because I don't need a dedicated camera most of the time. What I do need on a regular basis is 6+ hours of screen on time, while also using the camera and dealing with the expected battery drain in my 5G area. The 13 Mini struggled to provide that right out the gate - and when you stack up the 13 to the 13 Pro the latter feels like a better overall package.
      I personally love the Mini, but It doesn't feel like a long-term solution. This isn't throwing shade, but that's why all these RUclipsrs love it, because they're all going to get a new one next year.

    I feel like the mini camera looks a lot better in a good few of the shots.. the mini is a little less contrasty but that looks like a benefit in some shots where the max makes your skin tones look very orange/red and unnatural.. maybe that also the colour grade you might have added. Also the mini seems to produce a brighter image (more light) in a lot of shots, the video from max looks sort of darker sometimes.. I guess that comes down to the increased contrast.. overall I think the max looks better in dynamic shots and probably better for streets and landscapes, the mini looks better if you’re going to shoot more people cos of the more natural skin tones

    Under good light, I think you'd be hard pressed to find much of a difference. I think if you HAVE to pixel peep then really I'd get whatever makes you happy. There's definitely some pros with the mini (i.e. size, less expensive, easier to reach all areas of the screen, etc.) Plus may work better on a gimbal because of less weight.

    I've been using iPhone 13 Pro for the past couple weeks, coming from 12 Pro Max, and 12 mini before it. 13 Pro camera is better, especially in low light, so if your phone will be your only camera, I would say it might be worth it to get 13 Pro. Great videos Matti. The one thing I will say is that I never knew I needed a phone like this until now. I mean I know it sounds pretty dumb but hear me out.
    I am the type of person that likes to always capture those little moments with my children/family/friends. I always pack a phone in order to get those shots/videos. I previously owned a S21 Ultra, and although I loved that phone, it felt awkward to hold plus the slow shutter speed made it awkward to capture my children. Videos came out well but I just found a lot of graininess in the videos didn't exactly please the eye. I swapped my S21 Ultra for an iPhone 13 Pro with 1TB as I knew I would capture a lot, and I also wanted something smaller.
    All I can say is wow, I have been playing around with these cameras and I am just astounded. I can get amazing videos of my family and the cameras are always snappy so I am actually managing to capture nice moments without them coming out blurry or just weird looking. There is more I have to learn as I honestly didn't realise I would be getting something so good but there ya go. Your videos exemplify exactly what I feel about the phone.
    Hope you are keeping well sorry for the long comment. Greetings all the way from the UK.

    The apertures between the 13 pro and the 13 aren't the same : f/1.8 on 13 pro ultra wide vs f/2.4 on 13 mini ultrawide. That makes all the difference in low light situations.
    Personally I own a 13 pro max. I used telephoto lens quite often and I used macro mode (it's more acceptable to say "proxyphotography") maybe 10 times last 365 days. Telephoto is great in daylight situations but the quality of the pictures is limited in some indoor situations and not usable in low light situations.
    But there are 2 problems : iPhone 13 Pro is heavy ! And ProRes is just a marketing plan : how can we transfer a ProRes file (until 1909GB/hr !!!) with a lightning cable (USB2 technology) or even with airport ??? Whatever, who use ProRes for RUclips or insta? RUclips and insta compress videos so it's not necessary.
    Today there's iPhone 14 pro, 14 plus... no more minis... I'm asking if I have to change my 13pro for a 13 mini with a bigger memory capacity. I listen to a lot of Apple Lossless music and I don't like to stream (my ecologic part).
    14 pro doesn't interest me. I don't think that 48mPix sensor with pixel binning will offer a drastic difference (except for the video stabilisation but I don't need it). The main sensor of the 14 is bigger than the one on iPhone 13 (fortunately because there are 4x more pixels) but has a f/1.78 aperture vs f/1.5 for the 13 pro.
    And dynamic island... it is a beautiful idea but iPhone users want no notch, they don't want a pill instead of a notch which is lower on the screen than a notch. Because of that, there will be more useless surface on the top of the screen.

    Was watching this on my 11 Pro Max and yeah there was noticeable different between the mini and the Pro. 13 Pro has more details in the beard, has less noise in the stairs shot, obviously because of the larger lens. Honestly for you as a creator the 13 Pro is the way to go. You want the best you can have, because as you said in your previous iPhone video that you sometimes just record on your iPhone with ultra wide lens. And if the difference is noticeable then why not go for it.

I know the pro would have a pro camera much better than a phone (for planned shootings), but would it be that easy to get to (on your person) all the time? I am for sure only a hobby photographer and coming from a 6 plus, the size & weight of the PM is big, but for me, I never know when a great photo opportunity will come up, so I am happy with my new 13PM. Loved the video and totally respect your reasoning. Just thought I would share the other side of the coin. Thanks for sharing...

    Excellent test. Thank you.I own 13 Mini and quite happy. I don't play game or watch you tube on cell phone so small battery does not bother me. I like the size of Mini.

    Watched on my phone (iPhone 12). Max Pro had more vibrant bright colours and better image in the low light. Mini almost likes you’ve run a skin smoothing filter. Noticeable difference side by side, but couldn’t find any fault if I was to just watch the mini.

    i liked the idea of the iphone12mini already and really wanted to rock it but the battery life just screwed me up last year. But finally the iphone 13 mini seems solid and im really thinking about to get it.

    2:17 was the only time during this video, when I see huge difference. Maybe it s just the zoom function or something, but it is quite interesting.

    Yes, we can see the difference in contrast and sharpness. The ultra wide pro is better.

    I'm not sure if you noticed this, but when viewing on my tv, you can see that the mini has a bit more camera shake vs the pro max and has some weird motion shifting

    Wow! I’ve been on the fence about upgrading from my iPhone 11 Pro. The 13 mini seems doable. So are you looking at the mini for filmmaking on the go?

      I’m copping the 13 max I think it’s depends on if u using the cameras a lot. In which I am because I take a lot of pics of my family n etc so I need a better 📸

    Max def looks crisper and has more dynamic range, but I am a HUGE fan of not carrying more than necessary with me. I'd probably stay mini.

    For output that's not in daylight Ultra wide is quite a bit sharper on the Pro model, but for the Wide camera the difference is negligible.

    I love my 13 mini so much, never getting a big phone again. When my 13 mini dies, I’ll get another lol or I’ll buy an extra one if Apple announces they will stop selling the 13 mini in their stores, which probably wont be for another year or two.

    at 1:20, the slow motion on the mini seems to be suffering some frame loss. Slow SSD? Slow processor?
