  • Narrated by Emmy Award Winner Peter Coyote, the film recounts the most important events in the creation and evolution over seven decades of this iconic watch through first hand interviews with Jean-Jacques Fiechter, its inventor; Robert "Bob" Maloubier, OBE, who oversaw the French Navy’s adoption of the Fifty Fathoms as its dive watch; and Marc A. Hayek, Blancpain’s President & CEO, who revived the Fifty Fathoms.

I greatly enjoyed this documentary, both parts one and two. I'm a proud owner of a Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, 5100-1140-052A. When I made the purchase last year I was not fully aware of the rich heritage and history of the Fifty Fathoms beyond the fact that it was the first, true diver. I'm not a diver so the Bathyscaphe is a "birth-year" watch for me (1953). I was drawn to the beautiful, clean aesthetics and go-anywhere ruggedness in the versatile 38mm size. The twin-barrel movement is a great feature. I was very pleased to learn that the 38mm Bathyscaphe has roots in the 1950's and isn't a recent brand extension; the Bathyscaphe has its own, long heritage. Love this watch.

Part II of the BP FF History is no less impressive than Part I. What a strong history the BP FF unites in itself. Today I am the proud owner of a BP FF Ocean Commitment II and wear it with awe and respect. I am very grateful to Mr. Marc A. Hayek he has awakened the FF from its slumber and wants to develop it further and let it live on. Thank you for continuing to pay your respect, know-how and innovation to an important part of Swiss watch history and not least of the world's diving history!

Superb documentary. As a marine biologist, I especially appreciated the Coelacanth work - superb! This video has done much to convince me that Blancpain's Ocean Commitment is more than mere 'greenwash;' the Fifty Fathoms more than 'just' a dive watch. I used to think it was too big, but sometimes the best things in life are challenging initially, whether music, art, literature, design... When you commit some effort and though it all makes sense - an extraordinary watch that works on so many levels.

I am a new owner of the Fifty titanium, 45mm. I have a decent watch collection including flagship Rolexes and I have never worn a watch that felt so intuitive, graceful and yet robust. You have to see the watch in real life and put it on the wrist, then everything makes sense. It is luxury of course but for once I don’t feel disappointed. Can’t wait to get some new nato straps for it!

I loved the Trilogy! The land version (GMT) should be brought back and made the standard model for a couple reasons:
    1. I know a lot of fellow pilots who, like myself, will enjoy a recreational dive during a long layover. And as pilots, we constantly cross time zones and so the rapid hour 12 hour hand is a necessity.
    2. Many serious divers will cross many time zones in pursuit of their passion. And so making a Fifty Fathoms simultaneously a diver’s and a traveler’s watch would make perfect sense.
Now, to really make it convenient, use screwed-down push buttons located on the left hand side of the case at 7:30 and and 10:30 to adjust the 12-hour hand.
I’d love to see more dial and matching sapphire capped bezel color options of the base model Fifty Fathoms. Your own Havana brown with almond colored dial printing, lume, bezel printing and indices would be awesome, as would green and burgundy dial/bezel versions to match the blue versions currently offered. How about a salmon dial version with blued steel hands, indices, and dial printing with a reversed salmon printing on blue bezel? How about blued steel hands, indices, and dial printing on a powder blue dial? How about a yellow gold version with deep green guillochè dial and matching green capped bezel? I think a burgundy guilloché dial with matching burgundy bezel in a red gold version would look awesome as well! The possibilities are endless...

The original version of the Fifty Fathoms was so aesthetically pleasing, iconic and user friendly in the same way as the Rolex Submariner design is, I am surprised that Blancpain do not offer a version of this watch. One that ordinary people of a with a spirit of adventure/ rugged demanding occupation could aspire to, and not just a desk diver for the super rich.

The Bathyscaphe's watch face is so fugly that I don't know where to start. Those tiny hour pots and the syringe hands are all wrong. They should have used sticks like the vintage. Thinner sticks for the hours and thinner sticks for the hands. That would have created a winner.
