I don’t know about this interview. Unlike others here I have nothing against Mr Bamford. But Harry is asking him all these car industry questions, and he’s not giving very informative answers. He just seems out of touch. I see this quite often, people interview these very successful and wealthy people expecting them to have all the answers, but they often don’t have much of a clue either. Success and wealth doesn’t necessarily make for a very wise man.
Just quietly, most automotive manufacturers would agree with Lord Bamford's comments about the direction they should take. Setting fixed targets and prioritising one energy source over all others, especially when batteries have some critical limitations, puts ideology above practicality. EV is just another alternative and the focus should be on energy efficiency and emission control, by whatever means.
Great ! So we can agree that your original comment is factually incorrect .. yes ?? Maybe you could tweak it just a little & not give him undue credit for something he clearly did not do ! Just an idea 🤷🏼♂️
Why not ask Lord “Chateau Leoube” Bamford about the Brexit mess he helped create, or his continued enabling of the abject disgrace that was Boris Johnson’s Premiership?
Great interview, lots of respect for Lord Bamford and his family, and bollocks to all the people saying he's a tax avoider...even more respect from me. He talks a lot of sense along with Lord Dyson, this is why we need the House of Lords - proper business people given a voice rather than career politicians
What makes me laugh is how people think being a tax avoider is somehow shameful. If you can avoid tax you should so so, it's perfectly legal and politicians do it all the time. Sauce for the goose, and all that.
@@adrianrowden8266 Did you not find the Harry’s Farm video about hydrogen powered vehicles interesting/informative? Or did you think that some backstreet garage tinkering about with classic cars was going be at the forefront of this 😂😂
I don't necessarily agree with everything here, but i do think it is very interesting. People being contrary to the norm are a very important part of technological development and should be applauded.
Harry - Thanks for bringing us this episode. I’m pleased to learn that someone is pushing hydrogen engines in heavy equipment, this in IMHO where the push should be. We should be pushing hydrogen engines for transport vehicles, farming equipment, and public transport. Most transport trucks follow a specified transportation corridor which would make planning for hydrogen re-fueling relatively straight forward. As for EV’s I don’t think Lord Bamford has it right, the battery technology today will outlast the useful life of the car, that has already been proven. As for range anxiety, I get it for long distance driving that might be a concern however the vast majority of driving on a daily basis hardly consumes the battery. Additionally long range batteries are now on market, so what if you have to stop every two hours for a re-charge, might actually be good for public safety in forcing people to take a break from behind the wheel. One last thing, those who cover the automobile market and especially EV’s never talk about what is now being done with used EV batteries. EV batteries are designed or a certain power band required for a vehicle. However when they no longer deliver that power band, they still have considerable useful life. They can now be utilized for battery storage. Here is an example of one such company that is doing this now. In fact there is a stadium in the Netherlands that is powered by this technology. I would encourage you to investigate it and even share it with your viewers. www.eaton.com/us/en-us/catalog/energy-storage/xstorage-battery-energy-storage-system.html

I understand his concerns, but am sure that five years from now, he wouldn't bat an eyelid. He'll actually be more concerned if he sees a human being in the driving seat.
Have to disagree with your comments about long distance driving and EVs. I recently had to drive from Malaga to Barcelona which is some 1000kms in one day and had to do the return journey the next day. For what I needed to do the train or plane was not an option and I am so glad I did not have an EV. I made three stops of around 10 to 15 minutes each and I was on my way. No need to stop when the car needed to stop and no need to go find a charger way of course from where I was. 10 to 15 minutes was enough to get some fuel, toilet break and get some coffee, in an EV it would added hours and hours to what was already a very long trip!
@joebloggs4191 Spain is way behind most of Europe on EV infrastructure. They will catch up in due course. Notwithstanding, very easy if you've a Tesla - a couple of 20 min stops will do the job.
Well done Harry, good to hear common sense from lord Bamford. Can't believe the negativity from some of the previous comments. We obviously still have a woke epidemic.
I think the comments are pretty fair, has he dodged £500m in tax? He pinned his flag to the Brexit campaign saying it would make Britain better, it hasn't by any measure. I can understand why punters aren't enamoured with him. Calling a spade a spade is not woke if it's true

Been a subscriber for the longest time since the EVO days but this was difficult to digest. According to Lord Bamford EVs do not produce instant torque compared to diesel and hydrogen vehicles? What on earth is he talking about? It's pretty clear to me that hydrogen isn't the way forward, especially for farming/construction. There are substantial hurdles and costs associated with it.
I'm not entirely sure why Harry keeps saying EV sales are stalling either. The sales trend suggests otherwise. There's only the arbitrary ZEV mandate targets that put a dampener on it.
What on earth are you talking about?? You know more about construction vehicles than the owner of a multi billion pound company that makes them, and the CEO of the largest carmaker in the world, Mr Toyoda??
He said you need instant torque which you get with a diesel engine and hydrogen engine but apparently don't get with an electric engine? Which is absolutely nonsense. EVs are renowned for their instant torque.
@@dazag73 Road tax was abolished in 1937. Car owners pay Vehicle Excise Duty based on emissions. If this was to be applied to bicycles, they would be in Band A (given the zero emissions) and therefore pay nothing. Similar to EVs or very low emission ICE cars, but I'm guessing you're happy with EVs not paying 'road tax'. If motorists feel that cyclists should contribute to the maintenance of roads, they should lobby their MP and not take it out on cyclists. It's not our fault that we're not asked to pay anything. Most cyclists own cars and therefore do pay VED.
@@paulbrown5111 You shouldn't guess anything. You are splitting hairs. VED is road tax. If one type of vehicle can't be on the road without paying it then cyclists and EV drivers shouldn't be either. If one user pays then all users should pay or get rid of it.
When Bamford tried to buy Jaguar back in 2006 he walked away when Ford told him Land Rover had to be part of the deal. That was a dumb mistake on his part, but I'm also minded that if he had bought the companies neither would be here now, he would have run them into the ground.

Like yourself, I too dislike Brexit and I didn't and don't agree with Lord Bamford's viewpoint on it. However, Lord Bamford isn't only about Brexit and I don't think that there was anything he said in this video that I didn't agree with. Cancelling him out instead of affording him the courtesy of at least listening to what he had to say. Husbands and wives, partners, children and their parents rarely agree on everything and anything. Merry Christmas to you too.
For everyone in the comments hating on Bamford who has led one of Britain's most successful companies, a question: is any thing he says actually wrong, like manifestly, unequivocally wrong? No!
You simply should not let Bamford bang on about his hydrogen project without challenging any of his claims. Totally correct - EVs are still not the real deal, they are little better than prototypes and all the early adopters pay the price in shortcomings, rampant depreciation, inconvenient charging and high cost. People can see this, that is why they are not selling. EU and UK Gov’t have backed the wrong horse. Hydrogen should be getting far more support.

A fascinating insight into the way Lord BBamford sees the future of the vehicle market.
As a small business owner who lost 1/3 of that business that I built from nothing due to Brexit, I'd like to ask the man who inherited his billions from his family how he thinks Brexit is going. And why he hasn't paid his £500 million tax bill.

Would love to see Lord Bamford and yourself (Harry) on a test drive or road trip “Happy Christmas both “ 👍👍👍🌲🌲🌲👍🧑🎄🧑🎄
Harry, you're positively ruining your creds with a couple of videos! This is even worse than that Jaguar handholding video!!! STOP GIVING THESE PEOPLE POSITIVE CONTENT!
What do you mean "these people?" Fine if you are going to disparage, just be clear.
It's a great interview with an iconic man, Harry's cred is being ruined by people like you watching and commenting
If you can't watch something that doesn't agree with your view of the world, then the problem is YOU.
Typical comment of someone unable to listen another point of view and telling them what they should do.
Ignore the hateful comments Harry I for one found it interesting to hear what Lord Bamford had to say even if I did or didn't agree with everything said! For all those haters going on about tax dodging face it if you could you would limit your tax liabilities as much as possible, anyone that says otherwise is a liar!
100%. 👍
Envy is a sin and there are a lot of sinners in these comments.
It's all a ruse. In reality, they are Remainers who don't like Bamford because he is a patriot. They would rather give the EU 400 million a month to spaff on projects in other countries than fill in a form when they visit their EU holiday, main, retirement home.
Do you know the difference between planning and avoidance? One of them is illegal
@jsanders100 Do you know that neither of those is illegal! Its tax EVASION that is illegal...
Another fine year of great motoring stories. Merry X-mas to yourself, family and viewers
I think the guys spot on with his assessment of where we are and where we are going in the car industry. Thank you sir.
That no young people would own homes or cars?
Just quietly, most automotive manufacturers would agree with Lord Bamford's comments about the direction they should take. Setting fixed targets and prioritising one energy source over all others, especially when batteries have some critical limitations, puts ideology above practicality. EV is just another alternative and the focus should be on energy efficiency and emission control, by whatever means.
Haha, Harry is going to have quite a time reading this comment section.
Harry does not care about the comment section, never seen one single reply from him here.
Has he paid his tax yet? Not one for me to watch.

@@bluesky9093 The only thing Lord JCB is pushing for is government subsidy as otherwise this will never get out of reproduction!
I agree with you on everything else!
Completely agree. I was interested to hear Lord Bamford's account of crossing a road in the US and having a driverless Audi automatically stop for him.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Is it woke to not like someone who aggressively avoided paying tax to the tune of £500 million ??

According to Lord Bamford EVs do not produce instant torque compared to diesel and hydrogen vehicles? What on earth is he talking about?
It's pretty clear to me that hydrogen isn't the way forward, especially for farming/construction. There are substantial hurdles and costs associated with it.
I'm not entirely sure why Harry keeps saying EV sales are stalling either. The sales trend suggests otherwise. There's only the arbitrary ZEV mandate targets that put a dampener on it.

@@dazag73 No one pays road tax. How difficult is that to understand?
@paulbrown5111 Vehicle owners DO pay road tax. It's still called road tax!!!! It's just not used exclusively anymore to maintain the roads!

Like yourself, I too dislike Brexit and I didn't and don't agree with Lord Bamford's viewpoint on it. However, Lord Bamford isn't only about Brexit and I don't think that there was anything he said in this video that I didn't agree with.
