Bear’s Paw
It’s easy to see where this shrubby succulent gets its name! The thick, fuzzy leaves have 3 to 10 “teeth” at the end, similar to the paws of a bear. When “happily stressed,” the leaf tips turn a deep red.

I have this plant inside. If I look at it , it decides to drop leaves. I will use these tips to help it do better.
These guys look so cute!
So fluffy and so chubby!
Good to know that when I barely touched one of the fuzzy little paws and it fell right off that it wasn’t my fault! 😂
Omg this annoys me so much. Its so freaking fragile
Yes! They fall right off!
I have my bear paws along side adromischus cristatus. I give them an air hi five everytime i water them because they look like little hands ✋.
I love my bear's paw! I just recently found it at a local store and was overjoyed! Mine hasn't turned brownish or redish yet, but its only been in full sun for a few weeks. This one is special to me because my dad's name is Barry...and I found a coffee mug to put it in (with drainage hole) that has a bear on it and says "Papa Bear". Perfect! I have been trying to propagate the one leaf that fell off during replanting, and it has literally done nothing for the last several weeks. The fuzzy ones seem to take a lot longer, so I will wait somewhat patiently. :)
Probably too late, but there was a website that said that bear paws are very difficult to propagate from leaf. How did it go?
I look forward each of your "classes" and thank you for taking the time and effort to present them.
Another interesting succulent. I love learning all the proper names for the different succulents.
My all time favorite, one of my very first succulent. I have propagated twice from stems and now have three. I can’t resist petting the leaves when I go into my succulent garden. Thanks for the info on cutting back summer watering, I would have thought the opposite.
I have a small bear paw that is so cute. I am enjoying your informative videos. Thank you. Ethel Walker
I love, love, love, love this plant. I have one and is one of my favorites. It's between a few ones that survived the MG soil disaster that i made. I repotted it like a month ago in BJ and is finally growing. Everytime i see it i want to give it a kiss! Would like to have the variegated version.
I've also never had success propagating these from leaves. Good to know I'm not alone!
Thanks for all your great information. I really enjoy your RUclips videos. As always thanks for all your great information.
Lisa
I don't have Panda Paws, but a cousin, Black Tie. Love the fuzzy leaves and the black trim!
I love the name...Bear Paw...the name alone is cute! I don't have this one, never heard of it. Will have to look for it. Thanks for all your hard work making these viedeos, Cassidy.
I recently got one of these in stores and "loved" it too much with water.. after watching the video I clipped off the root rot and I'm praying it takes new roots!! 🤞🏻
Any update on your plant
The leaves are so cute and fuzzy just like bear paws!
Love my Bear's Paws! Thanks for all the great info you share about succulents; now I can't wait to try propogating my Bear's Paws from cuttings!
Such a cute plant. I’m enjoying these videos
I love how they look! I have both variegated and not! Didnt realize it was summer dormant! Trying to soak in all this valuable information! Again thanks Cassie for all of these videos! Pick me,pick me !🤗
I got one of these this summer too. I was able to propagate a chocolate soldier leaf but it took a really long time to start sprouting.
Thank you! I purchased this one but the plant care instructions were incorrect so I’m glad to know the proper care for this plant.
So cute!!! I saw a picture recently of how much their bear's paw had grown and it was amazing, makes me want to get some of my own.
It is great to know how succulents are so different and have different growing requirements. Thanks for the info.
Thank you! I’m picking one up this weekend and I’m super excited.
adorable plant would love to have one but sadly have run out of room in my window. I'm going to try some grow lights and see if I can expand to another area of my tiny apartment, lol Hard to change when your used to a big yard and lots of outdoor plants, but I am loving my succulent.
I just got started in succulents last June. I am continually amazed that they are so tender and need grow lights indoors. I have a Panda Paw and hope a bright window and winter sunbathing will get it through the winter.
I have mine indoors and it just grew some new buds! I can't wait til it flowers! I have mine in an arrangement with some different haworthia, burro's tail, little missy var., and other succulents.
I'm a little behind on some videos, due to a brief R & R, but excited to hear about this succulent. I have a small one hidden in a planting that needs attention so am excited to retrieve it and make it look this cute. Thanks so much
Love, love, love those unique leaves...never seen anything like this before...perfect naming!
Thank you for sharing all your info. I am learning so much from your videos and your website. I hope you keep adding to your videos.
I had no idea they were this fragile! Mine just arrived in the mail today and it was fully intact, apart from one leaf that fell off when I put it down 🤭
I love the look of those leaves. I guess I need to get one but I didn't realize that it will get as big as it does. Thank you.
I'm really enjoying the daily videos. Thanks for offering them.
I love the way your September videos are featuring such a diversity of plants--growth habits, color, pubescence, requirements, etc. Great selections!
I've had one for several months, and it's doing fine so far. Thanks for the great info!
I just bought some on clearance from Lowe's I hope I can keep them alive and well.
I love how there’s so many succulents around the table!
I love my little bear paws!!!! Did not know the leaves could turn red to though! Excited to try this!
Thanks for making this video! You were VERY informative - so much, I don't need to waste time clicking any other videos! Stay safe and happy planting!
I have this plant. It is so cute. I do have it inside by a window and have just started to use a grow light. hopefully it will stay compact in these conditions. Thank you for your videos. They have helped quite a bit:
I haven't heard there being a lot of succulents that endure the Utah cold! I'm also from Utah, so I got excited when you said it loves the cold! Thank you for that!
Yay! My mom just got one from the My First Kiss plant shop and it is so cute!
Just found some baby bear paw and two variegated bear paw, went on here to find info, and your video was the first! Happy to have stumbled upon your page bc I have very very limited knowledge of succulents!!
So glad you found the information helpful! :) Good luck with your plants!
It is so cute! I am learning about a lot of new succulents I never knew existed. 💚
I’ve never heard of this succulent. Thanks for sharing.
I've never seen the bear paw! Thank you for sharing.
It's so adorable and asthetically pleasing!
I ❤️ bear paw!! I recently acquired one in California on vacation and brought it home to Michigan. Thank you for the heads up I will definitely get out my plant grow light to keep it looking great
Wow this succulent can get big!! I don’t know if I’ve seen any succulent get that large! Thank you for the tips on what types of succulents would go well with it in arrangements.
I love this Bear Paw succulent!! I always want to call it a Kalanchoe because of the other varieties like it out there. Great information, I never had any luck with propagating these from leaves but stem cuttings are great. I try to warn eveeyone about the toxicity of this plant whenever I can, so I'm so happy you mentioned that💞 Thank you so much for sharing!! Your videos are always great with lots of information!💞
This has been a wish list plant for a while. Thanks for the info!
Your always very helpful and informative and Thank you for all your time and effort.
Such good info, makes it easy to do research on succulents!
I love fuzzy plants. This is a wish list plant for me.
Thanks Cassidy! I'm loving these detailed care videos, really good information and plant variety :)
If I could have picked, I’d have asked for this one. Mine struggle indoors but they are so young and often rescues.. but then maybe these hot days have it dormant! I’ve probably been overwatering but the store does for sure!
I found this one very interesting. Thanks for the video!!
This one is cute! It almost reminds me of panda plant, which has a special place in my heart because it was my very first succulent!
Just got this one. I love it's cute little pink toes!
Thank you for the very informative video! The Bears Paws succulent is so cute! My wish is growing Cassidy! Thank you!
Have both regular and variegated. The regular one grew really well the first year I had it... so much so, everyone at work got a cutting for Xmas. 😊
Can you give me any tips for the varigated bear paw? I recently got one and it dropped 2 leaves and I'm not sure why. I only watered it once when i repotted it. I have it in a terracotta pot with cactus soil and perlite.
i just got one of these and i already love it so much 🥺
I will keep my eyes open for this succulent.
I love how much information you offer! I want to get one of these, too, such a cute name and description!
Thanks for the great information. Learning a lot from these videos.
This is my FAVORITE one from all of my succulents 💚🐻 I have the green one and the variegated variety. Lately they’ve been dropping some leafs so I think it might be way too hot for them plus it’s been raining a lot. Hoping I can get them healthy again.
I love bears paws!!! So fuzzy
I have one leaf of this in my propagation dish. Checking daily for pup action. It is a cute plant.
Congratulations!!! You've won the succulent tool kit giveaway for this video! Please email me (info@succulentsandsunshine.com) with your address so we can get it shipped out to you. Thanks so much for watching and participating!
Another interesting one. Thanks again for the info! 😀🌵
I just added this to my garden last week!! It's so cute :)
Love this plant!
I love to look at bear’s paw but I haven’t had much luck with it so far. I do have a new one to try again. I might try putting it with Haworthia!! Thanks for the info!!
Love Bear Paw! I am still learning how to water it. I would love for it to grow into a bush. Thanks for the tips!
I had no idea that it’s summer dormant. Thanks!
Thanks ... esp for the info on dormancy ... will chk that out ASAP ... thanks AGAIN !!!
Thank you for the videos. So helpful
I can’t wait to get one of these fuzzy babies.
I will look for this one at the nursery.
I have the variegated "Bear's Paw". The fuzzy leaves are too cute. ☺️
I don’t have one of these. Thanks, though, for including it in these videos.
Love the bear paws. I have both the variegated and non variegated version. ❤️🌵
I've not had any luck with leaf propagation thanks for info
I had no luck with this one, seemed too fragile. Maybe I'll try again, cuz they look so cute. Haha I am really enjoying this series, keep it up! God bless.
Never seen this one, awesome!
That’s a cutie! Thanks
This is my favorite succulent, I think- it’s so cute! Getting a variegated one soon.
I have seen Bear's Paw before never thought about getting one and probably will not since you said shipping could cause damage. I get very upset when that happens. Thanks again for good information.
I will have to search this out. I never knew there were so many water differences
Cute!
I can't seem to make mine thrive.. Such a hard plant for me
Sounds like this one gets bigger enough for front of house area. Always looking for larger succulents. Drought tolerant even better!!
i LOVE my bears paw, she is one of my oldest succs
I have looked for one of those succulents locally, with no luck.
I find your videos so helpful, especially since I've killed one,or six.
Didn’t know it could use more sun- thanks!
Glad tohear it loves full sun!
I had this guy outside, but when the AZ summer heat hit, he started looking really sad. I watered him more, thinking that he was drying out too fast, but I just realized that he was going dormant! I brought him inside where he's been sitting by a north-facing window. I'll have to move him to a brighter spot now that I know he likes that. Can't wait for him to perk back up when it finally cools off! He's so cute!!
I have some variegated bear paws. I find these are much happier in more organic soil. I had them in bonsai jack and they did not do well at all.
Thanks for the video!
I want one of these so bad, but might wait to see how all my other succulents do first!
