I would much rather watch a 400bhp 90's car than some modern supercar! You have to concentrate to keep these on rhe road and the rawness of the experience just cant be matched !!
90s jdm hot hatches like this and the Toyota glanza are so much more fun to drive than modem cars, they obviously aren't as fast but who cares when even driving on normal roads is fun
Hi Jamie, I’ve just finished the build on my Toyota Starlet GT Turbo. Currently making 367bhp and 306 lbft of torque. I’d love for it to be on the channel. Hit me up.
Breath of fresh air to see this bit of variety instead of the usual golf r or stage x m140i or 1000 bhp m3 another OG in this feild would he the original s3 1.8t would love to see some more diesel on the channel and more rwd 6 cylinder manual cars of any variety been following this channel for a while always a pleasure to watch thanks Jamie
Back in sometime around 1999 I would of been 12. Me and 3 pals just chilling on our bikes and there was one of these a young lad had on our road. Claimed to be 500hp back them that was impressive. But one summers morning he needed a bump start so us boys got it going. In return he said he would take us around the block in it. I can still remember how excited I was sat in the back. And the speed of the thing was unreal. I think even now iv never been in anything as quick. Good times
Petes GTiR is savage but what made this video more enjoyable is the fact is it an old school legend but to top it off Pete’s face was smiling the whole time he truly enjoys his car and loves it and credit to him for all the work he done himself! Jamie sick vid as always brother
Full respect to Pete for building this weapon...I have a soft spot for the Nissan Sunny..Mum gave me her 1.4 5door hatch while at Uni..This cars are so robust and reliable testament to the old psyche of Nissan when they made truly haile free cars NOTHING on the level of a AsboPulsar 👍🤜🏽
Had a black one in the early 2000's at 350hp, never lost a race from 0-80, your could rev it at 7000 rpm, drop the clutch and it just went :) Even by todays standards, it would give a LOT of cars a tough time off the lights. I don't know why this car needed 3 gears to get to 60, mine did it in second, but you can see even with 3 changes it was 4.3, im telling you with a proper launch in dry and hitting 60 in second, its doing low 3's.
I remember seeing one of the first uk cars when I was doing my work experience for school at a Nissan garage in Manchester. It was red, brand spanking new and awaiting its PDI. What a Top build man! ❤
This car is really awesome! Loved it! Three things about this video: 1: loved the tee hee hee from Jamie, like a little kid 2: now Jamie knows how the wife feels when she gets to drive after his drive... Haha 3: this car needs to be drag race and also, get it to the Nurburgring
You can buy a Ferrari or whatever all day long, but you simply cannot purchase 'cool', you have to build it, own it, drive it, be proud of it and love it. The car here is cool no doubt, but what this car and owner represent here is what's really cool. I hope I'm making sense.
One of my friends had one for years. It was imported from Japan as an ex tarmac rally car. Full cage, massive turbo, diff lockers. It would shred all 4 tyres for about 100m on a launch. Crazy car.
Lovely car, I appreciate this man’s dedication in taking his baby out in damp conditions. Takes me back to my teen days when we all use to meet up on the car parks in our 1 litre shit boxes! 😂. Hats off m8.
No. A Ford GT40, back in the 60's and the special build crazy muscle cars that came out before the fuel crisis of the 70's, was the greatest era of cars. I love my turbo late 80's and 90's cars, but they were already going that fast in the late 60's. When fuel gas a few cents/pence a gallon/litre.
Nope your wrong, them car’s were horrible handling, crappy auto’s that were undrivable car’s compared to the 90’s JAP era! I’m not shitting on muscle car’s as I love them but c’mon……!
I could not agree more, those were definately the golden days, it was jdm cars in the 90's that sparked my love for speed and noise, i was lucky enough to see a pulsar every day for 4 years on my walk to and from school and there were some max power features local to me too, a skyline, a scooby and modified fto, the good old days.
I had my head phones in and the hairs on my neck actually stood up when Jamie said there is 100 left on uk roads and that music kicked in... Been trying to find the song 😅 goosebumps.... Sick edit !
J623 BSS was my one back in 2001, I live in the Scottish highlands, used to try and get stuck in the snow on purpose, never happened haha. I recall the most expensive mod was that steel sump guard that curled around the front bumper, very rare to get a genuine one. Turbo oil return was always an issue, clutch peddle bracket snapping was the biggest headache ever, that was the only time it left me stranded.
I bought that exact car in around 2003 from a garage near Harrogate for £2,000 with a smokey turbo and slipping clutch/rattley gearbox. Had the sump guard on it and Corbeau reclining bucket seats. Spent an absolute fortune on it, ended up with lots of Norris designs bits on, HKS cams and the disco potato turbo mod, Apexi ECU Ohlins suspension and Wilwood brakes, was around 380bhp if I recall. Went through 5 different upgraded clutches in a year through launching it too often, broke it and scrapped the shell and bought a Black Evo 5 as was sick of dropping the beast of a gearbox and transfer box out on my back every couple of months 🙈 Seeing the reg in your comment brings back so many memories of sliding down the road sideways and nearly filling my pants in the process 😂
@@JeffWood-e1q No Way!!! haha what are the chances. I fitted those seats, they suited the car well I thought, come to think of it, no idea what I did with the original ones, hmmm, are they still in my dads garage, i must look. I think you must have bought it late 2004, simply because my son was born in Jan of that year and I needed something bigger and less money consuming (clutch was just staring to slip then), sounds like it treated your bank account the same way as mine lol. I sold the car to someone local but they didn't have it long and I recall seeing it in town smoking, figured the dreaded oil return reared its head again, I didn't really know the guy so never had any dealings with him after it changed hands from me, I guess he traded it in and somehow it ended up the other side of the country. I fitted an apexi Avcr on it, HKS mushroom filter, exhaust of some description, cant remember but it was a dam quick car back in the day. Least I know now I'll never see it on the road again. Turned so many heads, always got Q's on what it was everywhere I went.
@@willfal6527Your right, we moved into a new house when I had it and that was Nov 2004. The oil feed pipe was braided when I removed the turbo so knew someone had been at it! I remember also replacing the oil pump assembly as I had issues with the pressure regulator, about £280 and then the knock sensor was intermittently shutting stuff down so had to replace that, cost a ton of money! The cam cover was also painted Metallic Blue which had me suspicious at the time as the Norris Designs forged engines came with a cam cover in that exact colour. Such a small world to see the registration pop up in here. I have quite a few photos of the car in its final spec if theres any way of getting them to you 👍
Watching these sorts of cars gives me chills, especially a pulsar gtiR I rode passenger in one when I was 14 around 8 years ago now before I was into cars, old man is a tuner and I was at the workshop jumped passenger and it amazed me I forgot about that and watching this made me remember that day it kickstarted an obsession and now I’ve got a “stage 2” mk4 golf gti running 240brake , with plans to go 400 hopefully within the next couple of years after some rust repairs and paint job 😅
I had a UK Sunny version in 1994 in red (1 of less than 30 red UK cars), K44 GTR reg plate. Epic car in its day. They were quoted as 5.3 to 60 but Autocar managed a 6.1 as did most mags at the time.
Awesome build Pete and enjoy it at that power level as that is usable and chasing numbers can ruin a cars drivability. 90's JDM at it's best with no driving aids and tonnes of theatre
I sold mine last year ‘94’ in black ‘350bhp’ apexi power fc ecu, 550cc injectors, hks turbo, fmic, exhaust, apexi power fc hand controller, a gazillion boost gauge’s and shot peened gear set gearbox! Fast car
90s got hatches are elite, they obviously aren't as fast as modern cars but things like this and the Toyota glanza are just so much more fun to drive and alot easier to work on

Can't remember what box(es) they've been using but they've found stronger options. Can't be easy finding an OEM gti-r box these days
I believe it's a gearbox from an Evo will fit with a custom bell housing, clutch, prop, driveshafts and Evo RS diff. A gearbox and adapter plate might just work to be fair as well.
JDM, we run it. You all know we do!!! Factory standard in nz these did fully 4.9s out the factory with a sick set of tires and real one, Slap n jandle! Factory claimed in ideal conditions was 5.0165.

I just can't really put it into words but these older cars just give you a feeling that the new cars don't give.
100% agree 👍🏻👌🏻

This is the sort of car that made me fall in love with this channel. Bun the 1400hp hyper cars, more of this sort of thing Jamie! ❤
These are the cars I wanna see! Affordable, DIY old school cars!
Certain people will recognise the infamous and period-correct Laguna splitter!
💯 had one myself on my Gti-R back in the day..😅😂😂
The 90's universal splitter haha.
