I talked to a Ford engineer a couple years ago when they first introduced that exhaust brake system. He told me it works in conjunction with the ABS system and the wheel speed sensors basically if your foots on the brake and the truck's not slowing down its scales up the exhaust brake based on load. It's not like the old school exhaust brakes.
I drive a 2019 f550 for work. It's a service truck and weighs around 18500 lbs. The exhaust brake is kinda needed with that big of a truck. Also have a buddy who has a 2019 f450 limited that tows with it all over the country. Tows great.
Not gonna lie, bought a 21 450 right at the beginning of last year. Best damn work rig I’ve ever had. That thing has been from the top to bottom of I75 under load so many times I can’t even count.
U had me at Ford...But I do love my Platinum...Work horse hands down. .. But I wished I bought a xlt or a ram. My Platinum always stresses me out cause it to nice... Your gonna love your work trucks guys...cheers and have a good time. .
When you use the engine brake and the tow haul mode combined it seems like it's more on demand, like decelerating down a hill it's more responsive and effective.
The Ford exhaust brake is really weird. It’s almost like it kicks in harder with more load. Mine will feel super weak with no load but then it will hold back a 15k trailer pretty well on steep slopes. But it does need to be revved up.
Agree on the Ford exhaust brake, it’s nowhere as useful as the Cummins. I was using a friend’s 2019 f-550 extended cab mason dump with about 13k of stone in the back and I was actually impressed with the little squat it had. I thought it would have been more. The acceleration under load was decent, but the lack of exhaust brake was very disappointing even when tow haul was on compared to my older year Cummins. Congrats on picking up the 2 new rigs.
You might recheck that with the 2023-2024 Ford Heavy Duty’s. I picked up a F350 SRW 6.7HO Platinum Tremor to tow a 5th wheel RV 19k pounds. The exhaust brakes work like they should. That said I haven’t towed with the new RAM’s. In the mountains it will hold and slow that weight down no problem at 38-45% exhaust brake being used. I probably should have gotten the F450 Dully but I like the Tremor for when I never go Offroad 😂
That's has the same Dana M300 as the 450-550 chassis cabs. The Dana S110 and S135 stopped before the 2017 MY. Tow haul mode makes the engine brake more effective, by more aggressive downshifting and more tightly controlled torque converter lockup
Ford exhaust brake comes on full power when you apply some pedal. Mine will hold speed downhill with my dedicated on the trailer if you let off the throttle and if you give it some pedal it will slow the truck down with nothing but the exhaust brake.
Best solution would be if an aftermarket company developed a driveline magnetic brake like they use on some school busses in certain markets. Then these fords would be the best overall trucks for towing.
We just bought a Ram Dually... we used your channel for some inspiration.. had a heart attack for a second thinking we should have maybe got an F450 instead.
Thank goodness! 😂😂 you had me super confused as to why there was another 450 on the channel when you just recently ordered your new 5500. I am glad that one came in quicker than expected as well. Congratulations to you. I am eager to see the process of what is to come. Keep up the great work.
Tbh the exhaust brakes on retail trucks aren’t that strong Until you get a cab and chassis truck and the exhaust brake is ALOT stiffer and more capable , but can’t compare to the rams exhaust brake And that truck has the better transmission The new 10 speed haven’t figured out there issues ! But congrats on the new Rams ! I have got 3 5500 flatbed’ / dump And a 5500 hauler couldn’t be happier !
It’s late and I’m not paying attention and my blood pressure is going up and my iPad is about to go through the wall I thought he was serious. You got me.
All this money for new trucks but no money for a proper suspension? You should put a Carli backcountry setup on one of the Rams with a progressive leaf pack and air bags. Do a build video and then a review. Compare to stock and how much better the ride is.
Arent the f350 and 450 the same chassis. I believe front end is different? Dont take my word on it. Im a ram guy. Was reading about the 2 differences in those rigs. All depends on packages. So yes rear end should be similar to 350 since this isnt a cab chassis 450 truck
I thought you finally came to your senses but then I realized that it was April 1st. I do agree about the exhaust brake though it does suck because it's not a true Jacob's style engine brake like the Cummins has.
The difference is that Ford and GM use a Variable Vane turbo, does not change size just angles the vanes. The Dodge uses a Variable Gate turbo that changes size so you get instant spooling and tremendous braking. The 351 can provide 130 hp of braking, the new 300 can provide 175 hp of braking. I have seen my 351 hit 75 psi in brake mode.
@@VBELTandSON I have owned nothing but Ford and I am probably not changing now only thing Dodge has is the Cummins which is a good motor but I won’t have the truck

I notice a little more aggressive braking when the tow haul mode is selected along with the engine brake
When you use the engine brake and the tow haul mode combined it seems like it's more on demand, like decelerating down a hill it's more responsive and effective.
Heck I must be the only person that was actually wanting to see this be true and see him add a ford to the fleet

I’ve had a bunch of 6.7 powerstrokes the exhaust brake sucks ass when you’re loaded heavy. Almost worthless. Great motor shit exhaust brake
More revs means more exhaust gas means more backpressure to hold the engine and the load
The Ram Exhaust brake on Auto does the same thing.

That is one gorgeous 450
Put sulastic springs on it, the ride improves greatly. I would also put the weighted wheel between the rear tires, your tires will last much longer...
Rides great
🤣🤣🤣 Sam I laughed my ass off when I saw this 6 hours ago 🤣🤣🤣 I said hot damn you bought your uncle Mark a Ford 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏿
I watched the whole video, nice truck!
Nice truck. I have 2000 f350
7.3 diesel. Manual.
with the ford exaust brake u can leave it in drive and hit the down shift button and take gears away to better control the exhaust brake
I have a 17 f550 with a 5.9 24 valve cummins p-pump, not sure of transmission but proably a allison trans.
Convoy coming to Cali support them brother it's the people's convoy
I have a 2021 f250 and had 2019 f350 the exhaust brake works amazing loaded hit the break once and it’s will slow you down loaded going down a hill
I’ve driven and towed with fords. Brake needs work
HA!!!!!!! I am happy that you did say April Fools because I was that close in saying unsubscribe!! Very funny 😄!!!

2022 has the refreshed interior with the 12" screen.
Same interior 17-22. Nothing different except a larger 12" only available on lariat and up models. Everything else is the same.
hook something heavy to it and keep in tow mode with exhaust brake on it will surprise you
Lol I’ve towed heavy with a ford. I was disappointed.
I live in Nampa and that Walmart is my local one. Would have been cool to meet you guys.
Turn the exhaust brake on and put it in tow/haul mode it’ll feel better

My exhaust brake comes on every time I back off the go pedal.
Where did you get your sunglasses
I thought you finally came to your senses but then I realized that it was April 1st. I do agree about the exhaust brake though it does suck because it's not a true Jacob's style engine brake like the Cummins has.
The 6.7 Cummins doesn't offer a "true Jacob's style engine brake" either. In this class of truck they're all exhaust brakes and not engine brakes.

Sam, I must admit that you got me because I forgot what day today is!
The exhaust brake has two different settings...
And those both suck
Which seats do you like better between the Ford and your '18 Laramie?
My 22 laramie are nice
I am pretty sure your 18 laramie has the easy out option also. I know our 2015 ram 1500 had it in the laramie package
She was a 4.88 gear ratio
It was kinda weird recognizing all the roads that you were on lol.
The only thing the frames are starting to break keep a eye on that
On the new ford's?
I love how they just sprayed black paint all under that F450 including the exhaust. I imagine its covering a lot of rust.
Used dealer sales tactic. Looks like shat to you & i, but to people that don't know better, it makes it look "new" and "pretty". 🙄
That's a undercoating option that ford offers to prevent rust. Works really well.
