Watching this many many years later, I've come to realize Wall-E's loneliness. I never really understood what it was back then but now as I grew older, watching this scene just resonate within me. All the daydreams, the imaginations I've had of having someone, having friends I can freely talk to, someone I could share my thoughts, my interests with. Maybe one day I'll find something that'll make living bearable.
I live to watch badass movies like RoboCop, From Dusk Till Dawn, No Country for Old Men, Django Unchained, but I am an emotional fucking wreck throughout every single scene of Wall-E.
Ever since Wall-E became sentient he feels loneliness, Hal, before Eve was the only source of joy he can be provided on a daily basis. He probably knows that, and is not willing to lose that tiny bundle of joy.
Evert time I watch this it kinda makes me tear up. The way wall-e functions and and handles everything and the way he rocked himself to sleep makes me tear up. I fall in love with that cute little robot every time I watch this.

It saddens me when this movie has a deep message. I realized that when wall-e held his own hand, he wanted a robot like him(or her) to love him. It's sad. The music makes me cry.
I thought I was the only one... it saddens me to see even see a robot shake himself to sleep and so lonely with a cockroach as his only company.. even if It’s just a movie.
This scene is a brilliant example of visual story-telling. With absolutely no dialogue from the main character, so much information about him is shown just from the things he collects and the way he behaves.
As much as Cars is okay, I think that if any Pixar film gets its series of shorts, it HAS to be this. It has untapped potential regarding a lone, unique garbage processing embodiment and bastion of human emotion and discovery.
In the DVD and BluRay of WALL-E there's an extras menu, containing around 10-12 (maybe even more) funny clips of him, Eve and other characters doing funny stuff, such as WALL-E playing with a vacuum cleaner and accidentally making the whole room dusty, Eve/M.O (I don't remember which one) accidentally breaking the screen etc. Just look up "WALL-E Treasures".
Omg that final seconds of this scene how he starts rocking himself is just - just- oh my god that was so adorable! I love Wall-E I wanna give him a big hug
Why aren’t there more people talking about WALL-E’s adorable singing??? This alone makes me freak out as if I had walked into a room full of puppies. WALL-E is a precious bean!!!!
The scene with the spork is just… brilliant to me. It’s so simple that the first, second, hell, tenth time you might miss the message and think it’s just a funny moment. He takes something he doesn’t completely recognize, identifies that it’s similar to some of the other items he has, and when he gets confused on whether it’s a spoon or a fork he decides that it’s neither and gives it its own place. It’s showing very early on what Wall-E is. Something with free thought. Not just a machine made for compacting trash, he has intuition and curiosity, things that make him unique from all of the other Wall-Es. And stuff like this comes up later in scenes like the trash room where EVE tries to fix him by replacing his motherboard, and Wall-E refuses. Because he knows that if it’s replaced, he won’t be himself anymore. Which is exactly what happens in the ending once EVE actually fixes him. He just becomes… hollow. Just a husk of the personality he had. I don’t think I need to say how much I love this movie. It’s charming, wholesome, and it’s rather deep once you look into it. Overall… it’s just amazing.

Seems like due to WALL-E's sentience he has gained a habit or hobby of collecting interesting trinkets or recycling useful items. I am honestly surprised how WALL-E managed to find so many working car batteries to power his home for 700 years.
I swear this movie is the best example of show, not tell. This entire first part of the movie has no dialogue, however, it is still able to perfectly portray Wall-E's emotions and the state the world has become

Something that I love about this movie is all the little details that make this world lived in. WALL-E's home is a sort of WALL-E deployment truck. Those rotating shelves that he stores all his stuff on were originally meant to house other WALL-Es. This truck would roll up to its destination, unleash a wave of WALL-Es, then drive off to the next destination and unload another wave. When you really think about it, WALL-E's home is just like the giant rocket that drops off / picks up the EVEs. And yet his creativity made it so much more.
