"Though it takes years to develop and animate a Pixar movie, it wasn't until the sequence was nearly finished that Stanton and his crew realized that the scene would work better if WALL*E himself suffered the injury, not EVE." - Кино

Makes me wonder why they didn't think to use Wall-A type robots on Earth. Wouldn't they get the cleanup done faster and more efficiently?
They honestly should've found a way to keep the little interaction between the giant wall-e's, that was cute...
They're called Wall-As

FACTS
I wish the whole scene could have stayed. I especially like how Wall-E’s laser became relevant. In the final cut he just uses it once at the beginning and the only other time is when he briefly uses it to break the beam-gate in the repair wing.
@@AssortedGarbage23he also used it to release Han-S from the blue tape to beat up the Stewards
I love the fact that Wall-as have no personality but they gave Wall-e a pat on the head for being able to do their job
Sgeagre
Perhaps it goes to show that Wall-E affects everyone that he comes across. Robots like TYP E or M-O who were not programmed to have personalities were shown to be affected by Wall-E's own personality traits they saw.

Even though it's a deleted scene, EVE reaching for WALL-E's hand at 4:01 is super heart-wrenching.

This scene feels the most intrinsic in many ways. Even though the new scene does fit better overall, it still feels rather rushed

@@vibes8930 I don’t feel like it was rushed, imo.

I love the voice acting in Wall-E's scream in the very beginning of this scene. Wall-E hasn't ever screamed like _that._ That was a scream of pure anguish and fear, and it made me feel bad for him. It was very expressive, I wish they could've used that scream somewhere else in the movie when they cut this scene!
bro is an english teacher
I prefer the movie version, because it furthers eve's development as she realizes how much she cares for him, where in this version we already figure wall-e is going to do everything in his power to save eve, since he has been doing that since the beginning of the movie.
I agree 100%, the final version showcases her a lot better since as you say, we already knew Wall-E would do whatever her could to help. While we didn't know she would actually begin to defy her Directive that she'd been following the entire movie to try and save Wall-E.
Yeah I agree. Also having Eve throw the plant away in the movie version is what really showcased that.
to think that there were so many minutes changed and it was the ending... done right when the movie was near completion!
Even though the original scene from the movie was heartbreaking, this one is even more heartbreaking considering that he's willing to die just to help her finish her mission.
@@christiaanbothma I agree.
This deleted is still a good scene but the final one is so much better. Having Wall-E, the main character to be in a state of near death is more impactful and emotional in my opinion.
Well that's the rule they follow in the a plot of a heros journey, but mainly that was probably a different thing for them but they wanted too have WALL-E get hurt
And it just makes him look all the more heroic when he tries to stop the holo-detector from closing.
@@srbarkerchan He DID stop it from closing, but he just died in the process.
Tofushi right?
Apparently there was a walle 2 but it was replaced by cars three
Pretty stupid to be honest
I really love how in this deleted scene at 3:00 with Wall-E trying to drag Eve out of the trash lock area, this moment has the full movie animation look
I think it's bc that scene where wall-E greeted M-O was used in the trailer
Yeah, this scene just goes hard, walle's desperately dragging her who's unable to float and she keeps telling him to get the plant to the captain. This scene was actually thrilling.
The change was a really good call. Wall-E being the one in need of repairs makes the viewer way more invested in getting the Axiom back to Earth. Its also shows how EVE changed as a character, going from just wanting to fulfill her function to now being desperate to save Wall-E.
Yeah, and it doesn't make a character getting hurt meaningless. In this deleted scene, EVE gets fixed rather fast, which means we're right back to where we started and the injury was completely pointless.

Also since Wall-E cannot fly, if the airlock doors had opened all the way, all the robots would have been sucked into space (except for the Wall-As because they are connected to rails)
its oddly spooky
Cool things about this scene if they kept it:
-Wall-E gets a proper introduction to M-O at full health
-Wall-E gets a chance to directly save Eve himself from certain doom
-The Wall-As treating Wall-E like their own child/little brother
-The enormous breath of fresh air that the sweet innocent robot isn’t on the verge of death and neither him or Eve would have to deal with the horrible pain of his memory wipe 😢

Indeed, but the final version express better what the director wanted to show: Eve caring more about Wall e than her programing.
In this scene, even thought we see she has her own desire (The same as Wall e: Holding hands) she still follow her directive because it's her directive.
In the final version howerver, not only does she goes against her directive (The moment were she sees the plant and throw it away) but when she realize following her directive would allow her to go back on earth and save Wall e, she truly begin to do everything on her own free will.

In case anyone's confused about some scenes looking unfinished, I didn't fully understand it either until I studied 3D Animation myself.
While there are some finished scenes, they don't always render in order, so with something like this deleted scene, they compile all the shots they do have together.
In some 3D Animation with humans, you would just see static models with basic geometry and flat colours just staring at each other while the voice lines are being played.
So in this scene for example, you see the Wall-A bots scooping up nothing, because that scene was a basic test to make sure it all worked, stuff like particle effects and piles of rubbish would've been added later, because a basic moment like that would've been much faster to render.
They often do flat colours and basic shots and render all of that together and it would probably take a day if that to make sure it all works, if the producers are happy with the current script and to be prepared for any changes that need to be made.
Honestly the deleted scenes for animation are so interesting to watch sometimes because you see more behind the scenes stuff
I honestly feel they made the right decision in changing it. We all ready know how much Wall-E cares about Eve. Eve needs to discover how she feels and it also helps rise the stakes for them to get back to earth to repair him.

You know a movie is good when the scenes the director thought weren't good enough are better than some of the newer Pixar movies today alone.
Pixar still makes good movies though
@Lightning6475 and is a bit more original than Disney, since Disney is still making live action remakes
@@Lightning-gg5iu They’re more few and far between now compared to the series of films they released right up ‘till Toy Story 3 (with the exception of Cars).
In the era of Pixar after that film they started losing their edge, for every amazing film they made like Soul, Inside Out or Coco, there’d be a bad one in between like The Good Dinosaur, Cars 2, and Cars 3, or a meh one like Brave, Monsters University, and Onward.
@@scifinerd17 Cars 3 was good though and MU is very underrated
@@Lightning-gg5iu Neither of them measure up to the amazing Pixar movies that they’ve released prior. That’s why I said Pixar lost its edge slightly since Toy Story 3. It is a good thing this was deleted from WALL-E. It is an excellent and romantic scene, but, it does not fit the movie. WALL-E is the one who should be hurt, cuz the whole movie is about lonely WALL-E trying to propose to EVE, with EVE never realizing the true love that he has for her. Now, since EVE finally understands that WALL-E truly loves her, it is her new directive to save his life. She now only cares about saving him and sharing love with him rather than following her original directive which she was trying to do through the whole movie. This scene shown here that is vice-versa does not make any sense. This deleted scene, although it is great, just doesn't belong in the movie. The ending was almost the saddest ending of all sad-ending movies I have ever seen, cuz, "after all they have been through", and now WALL-E is just a compacting machine with no selfawareness for eternity, like just a modern-day microwave, and then EVE takes his hand and holds it like she now understands he would have wanted. And then, it was the happiest ending ever, since, considering the first time EVE kissed WALL-E, it left him lovestruck, which in so, the kiss that EVE gives WALL-E then reboots his memory of the love he once had.
***** Well there is certainly nothing wrong with getting to watch more than one version of the movie, right? I think that is excellent. What really matters is that the real movie that goes on a DVD and played in the theaters that version is the right version with all the right parts.

And to think that back on Earth, WALL-E had already made stacks of those tiny cubes much taller and larger than those WALL-A's.
Right although it would be a bit harder for the WALL-A's to build towers as big as wall-e's towers back on earth just because of the sheer size difference between WALL-E and the WALL-A's
Runaway train Studios Not to mention the WALL-A's appear to be on rails rather than caterpillar tracks, fixing them to the garbage dump of the Axiom, where they eject their cubes out an airlock.
+Jose Suarez right I forgot that the WALL-A'S ride on that morale style rail system in the garbage disposal
Runaway train Studios I liked how this scene had a funny moment of interaction between them and WALL-E. Too bad the producers didn't figure out some sort of way to have an interaction with them in the scene they kept.

It was a good scene, but it already emphasized what we knew about Wall-e and Eve. He wanted to protect her whereas she wanted to finish her mission.
The original scene was so impactful because Eve directly ignores her order after Wall-e is hurt trying to protect the plant, the thing he thought she valued most until she chose him instead. It really built their relationship more and raised the stakes.
Plus I never saw how a lighter was supposed to fix Eve.

Walle fixing Eve means they’re left with far less sense of urgency when they head into the end of the movie. The Captain wrestles with Otto, shuts him down and Eve and Walle deliver the plant to the Lido deck. Happy ever after.
In the movie Otto zaps Walle, dumps Eve down the garbage chute, they’re blown out of the airlock, and Mo just happens to be there to block the door.
