Dr. Daniel. I am beyond thankful for all the research and knowledge you have given to us. I have 3 children ages 8,7,5. All have had Traumatic brain injuries. I currently treating all 3 in your clinic of Orange County. My 7 year old was found with a 3.1 centimeter arachnoid cyst along the anterior aspect of the right middle cranial fossa with mild mass effect on the anterior right temporal lobe. No midline shift or herniation.
    2. Nonenhancing subcentimeter region between the anterior and posterior pituitary gland, favored to represent a pars intermedia cyst, it hasn’t been evaluated. I’m very concerned for my son. Because when he has a jolt or hit to his head his behavior changes to defiant, aggressive, potty mouth, can’t focus, high energy, craves sugar and carbs, he get a cold, has a bowel dis regulation and gets anxiety to go in the car, go out of the house, refuses to go to school and refuses to do any school work. His memory is affected and seems to have a regression from his baseline overall. He has complain of headaches but not so much. I am very afraid that this extreme symptoms are cause in part of the cyst he has? I wish you could please guide me to the right professional experts on this cyst because I wish to understand this Cyst and the effects on my son as much as I can. I was told by a Kaiser neurosurgeon that is not benign, I’m very happy to know that but as you can imagine I don’t feel like I can feel worry free if I don’t truly understand what this cyst has for my son future. I don’t want to react to when things get bad I like to know if there is anything that can be done or nothing because is not going to affect him. I know you are very extremely busy man. I trust and believe in your work that only if you told me my son is fine. I would be happy to believe it. I’m listening to your book on how to heal ADD and ADD in intimate relationships and I so beyond grateful to have come across your amen clinic and BrainMD, my brain fit life. All this resources are immensely valuable and so grateful to have you and your wife help us with all your research, work, nutrition, to support the health of our brain. I know I’m asking for too but my children are being care for by Dr. Braun bello MD at your clinic in Orange County recently located to a different building within the same city. Please if you can let him know of a child neurosurgeon that won’t need Kaiser pediatrician referral to see him because this is why Im looking outside of Kaiser and she won’t refer me out because they have the neurosurgeon within Kaiser network but I already spoke to one of them and I know that he doesn’t get my son situation no one in there does except for A special women that no longer is with then that she did refer me to what I would ask and thanks to her I found my 8 year old had high spike waves 25/35 and is now on anti seizure medication. She is now working for UCSD and that’s where she belongs. 🎉 she had an open mind and was very supportive like a real care team should be do what’s best to help the health of the children. Please I don’t know if you read this comments but I will pray that you can help us out. Sincerely Joana.

Thank you doctor. I am a nurse and in school to become a nurse practitioner. I find what you say fascinating. I recently had a patient who was told by a neurosurgeon and neurologist that his psychiatric and neurologic symptoms had nothing to do with a large (7x8x5cm) posterior fossa arachnoid cyst. Symptoms began as subtle personality and mood changes progressing symptoms of cerebellar dysfunction and dysphagia. He was diagnosed with frontal lobe dysfunction followed by parkinson's disease. 50 pound weight loss ensued. None of the prescribed medical treatments improved his condition. After a recent fall he is now completely debilitated with grossly impaired cognition. I believe if the cyst would have been drained upon discovery and correlation with these symptoms the outcome could have been much different. Common sense tells me something so large at least has potential to cause symptoms and should be SERIOUSLY considered in a differential... frustrating.

A little girl in my daughter's 3rd grade had brain cysts. They found them because she just all of a sudden, couldn't learn and her heard hurt most of the time. The family ate pork almost ever night, so the doctors told them to stop. Here cysts were connected with a parasite so she was given some kind of parasite med. and recovered very well.

I just found out this morning that my 16 year old daughter has a cyst the size of a baseball behind her eye. She had a major fall in January and we noticed her one eye was really bulging outward. The ophthalmologist said it was just her thyroid but sent her for a CT scan to humour me. He hasn’t called with the results but our family doctor received a copy of the results and called to tell me. I’m still in shock. She has had behavioural issues and aggression issues for years that were chalked up to other diagnoses she had but now I’m wondering what came from what. I’m glad I came across this video.

I had a cyst above my pituitary gland which was removed at UCSF. I had no clue that I had this until one day it started leaking and caused severe pain, I feel completely different having since that was taken out.

my son was diagnosed with schizoeffective disorder at 18 years old, and after an MRI they found a cyst on his pituitary gland and told me it is nothing to worry about....they said just keep an eye on it , but they never monitor it and we are 11 years into his diagnosis...he is doing okay these days, but i am one who believes in finding the cause and not just treating the symptoms. I would love for him to come to your clinic and get his brain checked and treated accordingly! Do you have one in the northeast???

I have an Arachnoid Cyst. I started out with my brain hurting on and off for about 6 months. Then I was 33 when I got behavioral problems. I had involuntary body movements, Spasms, seizure like activity, I heard voices. MRI showed deformity of the part of the brain that controls movement. I lost my taste buds and my hearing was stronger than usual. They prescribed me medication and I got better but now my doctor took away my medication and i’m starting to get involuntary face twitches or movements

My identical twin sister was born with some head problems and from the extreme end of her neck at the back to between her eyebrows seemed that her skull wasn’t closed up .I’m from Nigeria we have a “traditional” way of fixing stuff like that. She complains of head ache every week every month. It gradually turned into migraines when we where in grade 10 .but doctors said it was just migraines ,she lost her sight drastically and claims she was seeing skeletons! now we have graduated from university at 19 and the stress of our finals made her migraines so bad she was unable to sleep for several days. She was rushed to the hospital and what started as a migraine turned into seizures (focal). I would honestly have to say that we are twins. And her attitude was odd I was slowly distancing my self away from her because. I felt she didn’t think a lot of things she did through and never saw the wrong in so many wrong things . We got an MRI and there it was a cyst she started getting medications for the seizures and other things. She woke up one day in the hospital and just looked at me and started crying. She said she hasn’t been her self. I’m a Nigerian we believe in People being possessed by evil spirits but that wasn’t the case😂.this was different ,she was different what ever this cyst thing is. It made her not fully psychologically present but she wasn’t psycho .she started apologising for things that she never saw as wrong. And it feels like for the first time in 19 years I actually have a twin sister .Her sight isn’t fully back and hallucinations haven’t stopped but I’m hopeful that if it needs surgery I’m God will make a way because we are broke lol. Hope you see this.

    Greetings doctor amen,
When I was born I had a traumatic birth the doctor pulled me out by my head with forceps I was born in may of 1995 and no one has ever thought to do an mri on my skull; that is until I fell in October of this year they found what they assumed to be an arachnoidal cyst which they then changed to a porencephalic cyst I’ve lived 25 years of my life with this and no one even thought to check my brains activity in that 25 years. Instead they labeled me as autistic and put me on pills that have ultimately ruined my psyche now at 25 I’m being told that I’m not actually autistic and that this cyst has been the root of my developmental delay since an uknown probably post birth trauma. And yet I was told by the neurologist who diagnosed it I shouldn’t have it removed: I have had a hard life already and these past months have made me not only regret my life but question if it’s worth living where I am now writing this is 3:46 am I lose sleep every night because I’m in pain I also have sleep apnea and insomnia and all my doctors are finally putting the pieces together all little too late: I just wish my circle of caretakers had taken the initiative you did with you child: because the medical field has failed me and only caused me more pain

Me too, been shouting for years there’s something wrong with my brain, they thought I was crazy until I went into the er and did a ct scan because I got assaulted so they wanted to make sure I didn’t have a brain bleed or anything and then they found an arachnoid cyst that wraps around my whole left side of my brain, been causing seizures and so much anxiety and more, now I’m finally going to talk to a neurologist about surgery !

My MRI says that I have a probable right middle cranial fossa arachnoid cyst, measuring 4 cm maximally. The right temporal lobe demonstrates moderate atrophy and nonspecific white matter disease. The neurologist says that it would be too dangerous to operate, so I guess I'm stuck, I'm 54.

I had one behind my eyes three years ago, Found out I was born with it , I always had anger issues growing up especially with certain noises and an upmost dislike for standard old school flueresent lights like in schools and old buildings.i would get painful migraines.
I only found out when I was at work and I couldn't look up without increasing the pain so I tried wearing sunglasses that seemed to bandage the pain but the migraines would get worse .and at this point I went to the emergency and found out from my scans (I had six scans just to find the little cyst that was causing all my trouble.

I had an arachnoid Hemorrhage about 13.5 years ago due to an arachnoid cyst. I looked like a stroke victim after and am still on disability due to it amongst other subsequent mental health diagnosis. I have to get regular MRIs just had one about four months ago and it seems to say I may have a new additional pineal cyst with a midline shift to the left, I'm thinking from the Initial rupture. I had brain surgery for the AC in 2016 but it proved to be to vascular to do anything. I see my neurologist on Oct 24 to get full details on the possibility of there being a new pineal cyst. Don't give up the fight everyone?! And if you can't or don't have an advocate call for help. God bless.

ive had a brain cyst on my left side ever since i was 4, but had a shunt put in to drain the fluid and is still there today but has collapsed onto itself, but if the shunt breaks it can very well fill back up. Also have migraines but i didnt devolve them until i was 13, and only had them about 6 months but it was everyday. later on i got them again when i was 16 with the same pattern and pain. 21 rn and have had them again for about a year but have been doing great with them only getting 3 a month now. To answer your question it could be possible, but after all the years and doctors i have been to there isnt a correlation between them. I get ct scans once very year to check on my shunt and havnt had a problem ever since i broke it after a year of getting it. There was speculation that i had chiari malformation when i was 16 while having the migrains. So i had an mri done to check with bloodflow and lucky wasnt the issue. I advise getting a shunt or removal for the cyst becuase i was on the verge of death when i went to the hospital only hours from being to late with it taking up about 40% of space in my skull. Then again not all cyst grow so whatever the doctor reccomends. Good luck with it tho, and stay strong ik first hand how horrible migraines can be.

I had a huge arachnoid cyst in my lumbar spine. It was removed. Do these come back frequently? I had a hard time with the surgery. As I'm a bilateral lower limb amputee. Ak on left and hip disarticulation on the right. I lost them in a train accident at age of 9 months old. My surgeon thinks it started from that traumatic event. I'm 45 now. It was removed 7 years ago. I'm worried bout it reoccurring.

The Drs. say it is not in an area they can do surgery on, so they just keep an eye on it. He has very bad migraines. As it was 10 years ago, I do not exactly remember how they treated it but they opted against surgery as the cyst is located in a risky spot on my brain. No I think they drill through the scalp, make a little hole and work through that with fine instruments... Not a massive cut, but I am not sure

Thank you doctor, for your video. I have a 'Porencephalic cyst', in the left hand side of my brain it's (5 x 4.5 cm). I didn't know, I was told in the A/E unit by accident after a 'tonic clonic seizure' in 2008 the doctor assumed I already knew. I read up about it on the internet one web page said people with porencephalic cyst die in their early 20's I was 48 at the time. A lot of the internet is rubbish...

Hi guys! I see that the video was posted 10+ years ago, but I'd like to ask a question, maybe someone can answer. My son, almost 3y old, has been diagnosed with a brain cyst lately. We found out about it after he had a febrile convulsion. The cyst is large enough, about 5cm diameter, located in the left front side of the brain, and the main symptom is a convulsion. However, the EEG is calm, with no bad signals from the part where the cyst is located. I am very afraid of losing my son, because he is likely to have a brain surgery, and the main question is, what is the survival rate after this kind of surgery? Thank you!

@@nopeboat5383 My son had a cyst fenestration surgery 3 month ago, but unfortunately it didn't help, the cyst is the same size as it was before. Luckily, my son is feeling well, no any seizures. But we have not decided yet should we do a revision surgery or not.

What the hell does someone do in Canada where the doctors just monitor and monitor and monitor without ANY proactive approach to considering these cysts in my head contributing (at the very least) to my symptoms…. ITS FAR BEYOND SOMATIZATION. Fuck sakes im tired of this country and their poor diagnostic ability. ONE TRIP TO MEXICO, and I have a neurosurgeon willing to help, asked me to go back to Canada and get covered by insurance as the procedure is expensive. WTF CANADA -- thanks for the help doc and all you others sharing your stories… they all are eerily similar. I used to be an MVP athlete and hard worker… now I can barely walk or see straight with major behaviour issues

This is always have symptoms to him you just don't realize it because hitting your head on the floor or against a window to stop the pain because it hurts so bad because your sympathetic nervous system can't come down. I didn't realize that not having my ovaries and going through menopause would make my body start to react normal so that it wasn't going anywhere very dangerous mine was so lonely it caused another one so now I have two when in the dead center and one on my cerebellum that's the size of a small plantain when I saw it was over 3 cm big and I knew I was splitting it after my husband took a shunt out of my spine when we were making love if you could call it making love like that so I had four more surgeries and went septic people need to be cognizant of what can happen to you when you having a rat noises they are so dangerous you have to be so cognizant of the drugs that you take because we're not drug addicts that's other people that like to put there slant on their own lives on to yours and you can't let them live your life you are the one that has you are the one that is no Divergent they are neurotypical neurodivergent that is us completely in a nutshell and if you guys aren't getting us the help that we need and educating women that we should not be having children it's child abuse to have a child born with a brain tumor that's going to cause all kinds of central nervous system diseases down the road even if you shunt it. It doesn't matter there's a pathology and your brain and the atoms are splitting and there's nothing you can do to stop it especially with an arachnoid cyst
