Thank you for this video ❤️🙏 My dad loves figs and used to have his own fig tree would make his own preserves every year. He’s been battling cancer and in and out of the hospital since January so I am making this for him for Christmas. ⭐️🎄
Like this recipe. A friend gifted me a fig tree. This yr it is full of little figs. My husband's mom used to make fig jam . So, now I can try it this year. Thanks
I really like the simplicity of your recipe. I have been a Georgia gal all my 59 years and love figs. My grandparents used to grow their own figs, fruit trees and vegetables, so they did a lot of canning. I got to help out a bit and then enjoy the fruits of their labor of love all year long. Now it's my turn to show my granddaughters and looking forward to trying your recipe - had to edit after using your recipe with my granddaughter: Delicious! looking forward to this seasons figs, and using your recipe again!
Thank you for the very helpful video. We live in Tennessee and have two HUGE fig trees that are loaded down! Hopefully now I’ll be able to enjoy these sweet nuggets this winter.
Growing up in Mississippi my grandmother had 4 large fig trees that produce big juicy sweet figs. My grandmother, mother and uncle used to can figs and it would be sooo good. They are all gone 💔 to live with the Lord now so it's up to me to carry on the family tradition of canning whole figs preserves. I'm 58 yrs old and I really enjoy it as I think of the memories 😭❤. Thank u for sharing your fig preserving. 💕😉
First time doing them by my self! Loved the process and the turned out good and beautiful in the jars! Sent your video to my granddaughter in Mississippi. I'm from Newington, Ga.
@@toddjones3046 I'm in Lousiana, too. So if you mean the type of fig tree that produces figs, there are none that you can grow in a container - partly because they get huge. But there is an ornamental type of fig tree that is grown indoors, but it doesn't produce figs. I'm nut sure, but I think it's called a "Fiddle Leaf Fig".
I just got some figs from a neighbors tree this evening and went searching on what to do with them. I've never had em fresh tree ripened. I tasted one and they're really sweet so I'm not adding any sugar, just a little honey to mine when I preserve them. But thank you so much. Enjoying the video and subbed 😀
Got a gift of a fig tree a yr ago. This yr it is full of little figs. Love in Montana ,so have to bring this young tree in during winter. Plan to try this recipe .Thanks
Just made some with my mom haven't done it a long time am glad you don't add water I got just a little bit of figs from the farmers market it made one jar figs are hard to find but thank you for your video
Loved watching…. I was taught to boil lids and use boiled sterile tongs or my magnet stem to place sterile lids on sterile jars. Drying them with a paper towel is removing any sterile process… They are simply beautiful though an FCC I’m sure taste wonderful.
Thank you for this video! I used to make them when my kids were growing up (and a time or two since), but they're now in their 40's. So I watched several videos for a refresher course, and yours was by far the best, and the one that was like I thought I remembered making. Do you know how long these will be good when canned properly (I sterilize jars, lids, do a water bath)? I just found some that I did about six years ago, but don't feel they would be safe to eat after this long. It's the first time I've ever had any left over that I forgot about. xoxo
I sterilize everything but don't do the water bath. You could do the water bath, I just put the figs in the sterilized jars when they are so hot that they seal properly. I've eaten some I've had for a couple years.
So these aren’t pressure cooked or done in a water bath? My neighbor had a loaded fig bush and I want to make some preserves. My one other time to make them was many years ago, and although the taste was good, the juice was too thin.
No pectin. I keep mine in the pantry if they are sealed. Once they are opened, in the fridge. We never keep any over a year because we've usually eaten them by then! Lol
I did my first time fig jam,I did it with honey and small amount of sugar,if I eat toast everyday I can imagine how much sugar it be in my system I don't think so how they will do thank you
Most fruit have a high sugar content but if you want a good jam, you'll need to add it. I am curious tho, try it without and let me know how it tastes.
I put the figs in the sterilized jars when it is super hot. They always seal correctly. This is how I was taught and the recipe has been passed down. It's always worked for me.
You guys use soooo much sugar! I bet it's delicious though. * Just as I finished sending the above comment, you stopped, looked right at the camera and said "If you don't like your figs so sweet, use less sugar" Then smiled sweetly. You were taking to me 😆☺️

Good timing on the can popping right as you finished that sentence!
Looks so delicious
Easy to do. We love figs! This is the best video on cooking them.
Love that you didn't add water, wish I'd found your video ten minutes before I added water to mine
I needed a refresher course, so thank you for sharing!! Enjoyed the video. From another Georgian.

Hi Rebecca are you in Louisiana? If so, what’s the best type of dog tree for Louisiana and can I grow in a container?
I meant fig tree
Awesome, I hope you enjoyed making your figs!

@@joycegallowayparker9652 yes, a Fiddle leaf is the new sweetheart decor for designers and you are correct, they are ornamental.
Hi just love your simple style, nice & yummy.
Thank you for this video! I think I can do this now :)
THANK YOU for this wonderful video finding one I can follow that’s straight forward and looks amazing

We enjoyed this video Thank you for sharing Blessings to everyone 🙏🙏❤️❤️
I love figs it's so delicious 😋
Thank you for this video. Can these be done in the slowcooker?
I've never done it in a slow cooker but you probably could as long as you get a good simmer.
You can add a couple tablespoons of lemon juice if you want. I have added a couple of teaspoons of vanilla at the end before and that is good too.
Is the lemon juice mandatory? I made some without the lemon juice and now I’m afraid to give any to my MIL because I didn’t want to make her sick.

You can do strawberry jello in your figs too. That's how my Sister does hers, she likes the Strawberry Fig Preserves...
You sure can and here's my video for Strawberry Figs! ruclips.net/video/T5TYNY96FUc/видео.html

I need to do this!
Figs are in season and this is how the old timers made fig preserves!
How long did you cook the figs down for? I've got about a 30 ft tall fig tree I'm the back yard I'm gonna try this
Usually a couple hours. You want it to get really thick.
Very well explained
video
Can you do a video on how to canning?
I am new to preserving food
I can’t fine a good video
Thank in add Vance
Reminds me how mawmaw showed me here in Alabama
Passed down recipes are the best!
I love this simple video! How long of a shelf life do these jars have? Do you have to keep them refrigerated?
You don't have to refrigerate them if you can them correctly and they seal. If you don't, I would say a couple weeks in the fridge.
I use my crock pot so there is no chance or sticking or burning!! Apple butter is done over night!! It so easy!!
👍
What type of Figs you use.
Thanks
WiliieB
After you fill the jars. Do you out them in hot water again? If so
For how many minutes ?
Do you ever use pectin?
So these aren’t pressure cooked or done in a water bath? My neighbor had a loaded fig bush and I want to make some preserves. My one other time to make them was many years ago, and although the taste was good, the juice was too thin.
Nope, just follow the video.
Where can I buy persrrved figs
Do u have to add pectin and canu keep in the cubbard long or the fridge?
No pectin. I keep mine in the pantry if they are sealed. Once they are opened, in the fridge. We never keep any over a year because we've usually eaten them by then! Lol
Hi Ms. you can use less sugar and add one half quizzed of lemon to makes figs thicker thank you very much. Not to much sugar.
I did my first time fig jam,I did it with honey and small amount of sugar,if I eat toast everyday I can imagine how much sugar it be in my system I don't think so how they will do thank you
What part of Georgia?
Grovetown , just outside of Augusta.
Did you water bath?
No lid during the simmer?
No. You want them to thicken.
My Daughter is diabetic, what can I use? What recipe?
Honey
Do you not water bath them?
You could but I don't. I find if I put the figs in when they are still extremely hot, my jars always seal as they cool.
@@sideofgrits Interesting. Makes a lot of sense!
What to do with figs after preserved? Use in baking, as a jam, or what? Ive not ever had figs except fig bars.
On a hot buttered biscuit or sour dough toast, any toast actually. SO good!
@@sideofgrits Thank you for your info. Theyre so good 👍
My grandma always turned the jars over for bout 5 minutes after screwing on the lids to make sure it killed anything they may have gotten on the lids.
Great tip!
Figs are so high in sugar content you don’t really need the added refined sugar.
Most fruit have a high sugar content but if you want a good jam, you'll need to add it. I am curious tho, try it without and let me know how it tastes.
First of all they Gods sugar that the body recognizes, not like man made death sugars!
@@sideofgritsI actually made a blueberry jam and used honey instead of
Refined sugar and it came out really good.
Can I cook them when they are still green? When I wait until it has the dark color ants have beaten me to them .
They need to be somewhat ripe. Yes, ants do get them quickly!
So you didn't water bath the jars after you canned them??? I'm confused..
No, as long as you put them in sterilized jars while the figs are very hot. My jars always seal and I've never had a problem with them going bad.
Can I order some jars from you thanks
You can buy jars at any decent grocery store, or farm store, or hardware store. And the Evil Amazon as well.
Hi, I'm sorry but I don't sell them. If you were close I'd give you a jar! 😁
Why don't you have to bath them in water, I have only canned tomatoes, but I though all canning had to be bathed.
I put the figs in the sterilized jars when it is super hot. They always seal correctly. This is how I was taught and the recipe has been passed down. It's always worked for me.
Ok
Those figs look so small whilst the ones in UK are as big as tennis ball.
Wow! I'd love to see. Please post a picture. These are brown turkey figs.
You guys use soooo much sugar! I bet it's delicious though.

OMG all that sugar!!
I just started canning a couple years ago. Haven’t done figs.. but omg all that processed sugar!!
It is a lot of sugar! Most jams and jellies have a lot. If it makes you feel better, you only use a couple tablespoons on a biscuit/piece of toast.
The music drives me mad!
