I met Rocky on 57th and 2nd Avenue in 1980. He owned the pizza joint, Rocky II. Nice guy. I got his autograph. I'll never forget it. He was so nice. Acted like he knew me and my friends. So cool and happy.
God I miss this generation.... such straight up real dudes. They had old wisdom. knew how to inflict real survival combat when they had too, but didnt have to pull all the bs fronts that you see now w/ so many wannabes..... graziano is the epitome of everything cool about that era.
I meet Rocky under an East Village street light at about 10:30 P.M. Just walking home through dark deserted street and as I approach the one street light on the block, Rocky also approached the light but coming from a different direction, that is, coming toward me. I recognize him at once, so approaching him I said high Rocky, He stopped and we talked for about 10 minutes. I told him he looked in great shape, and he repaid the compliment. Anyway, he really is a very nice guy and it was a pleasure talking with him. We shook hands and back into the night we both went our separate ways.
Born in ‘52, growing up with the celebrities of 50’s 60’s 70’s.......I wouldn’t trade it for anything ! Today’s stars, no heart , no substance. Most of them anyway.
All of these guys are gone now. Miss the time as a kid and a teen when on vacation my family would get a room and watch Carson. No politics and celebrities acted like good people.
Used to see him all the time outside his pizza place Rocky's Pizza on 3rd ave around 54th St, across from PJ Clarkes. I'd yell out of the car Hey Rocky! and he'd wave back with a smile. What a great guy. Would never fight Jake La Motta since they were good friends.
Where did you get this? You are making me cry and laugh at the same time. Where are you hiding? You are still a Zale. I have been bread from birth to dislike your kind.
I know that Tony Zale played himself in the Movie Somebody Up There Likes Me and yes Paul Newman got in the ring with Tony. Paul’s 2 nd film was Directed by Robert Wise and was Steve McQueens first film he played Fidel a member of Rocky’s gang. A great trilogy of fights between Tony Zale and Rocky Graziano!!!!
