It’s nuts how good this looks. The fact that we can render this level of detail in real-time blows my mind, it literally looks as good if not better than the CG in the matrix reloaded.
They've still forgotten how to give a game an atmosphere. I've no idea how they manage to produce things such as this demo and somehow have it all seem lifeless
@@bladerj That's a lie. No game looked like this 9 years ago. Many of the techniques used to render graphics like this didn't exist even in max settings crysis.
The glass shards on the back window were seriously impressive. I've been a gamer for over 35 years and have witnessed the development of games first hand (and released titles actually being finished 😉. This tech just excites me even more. I only wish I was young again to see what the future has in hold
It's actually amazing to experience the growth of video games since from the times of super Mario bros. I grew up in the 90s and whenever I'm playing a modern game, in my mind I'm comparing it with how games were in the 90s and that makes me appreciate every bit of the game and really enjoy it. Modern kids can't do that. I say you're lucky in that way
Well I started with the BBC Micro and ZX Spectrum, only 2 colours on screen at any given time. I often try explain to my kids about pre-internet times and they look at me as if I'm speaking a foreign language 🤣

@@pro_154 I LOVED ETM as a kid but now that I look back on it as an adult I see how they could have done better. As far as PON, it was my favorite Matrix game, especially the combat, but the super rushed way they did the story felt convoluted even if I already knew what was going to happen. Plus, Neo couldn’t fly. I realize there were technological restraints. That’s why a game now would be killer I think.
With a high quality VR headset you are basically 'there'. Took about 20 years to build a 1st version of The Matrix from the films release. Not too bad...
Man, if they made this a PC/VR game, open world with an awesome story (Even if it just mirrors the plot of the first one) count me in. I never thought Xbox One looked all that different from the best 360 games but this is a definite leap forward that I can certainly call "next-Gen"
Graphically it looks stunning, some of the scenes fooled me into thinking it was a real film. I just wish the gunplay was a bit more interactive. It seems like it locks on to the targets far too easily. If the aiming was more manual it would be a winner for me!

This is a lot like the movies actually, deep theoretical/thought provoking philosophy contrasted by crazy blockbuster action that leaves you little time to think about or compress said philosophy. There’s very little harmony between the 2 sides and thus it doesn’t really achieve its full potential. The ideas explored though and the cinematic boundaries broken are so high level that it doesn’t really matter, it will always have its place in artistic history.

@Tyler Browne More like its approach to filmmaking, how it did stunts, etc. You're giving all credit just to CG work when it was way more to it than that, there was actually little CG in it back then compared to the sequels and other movies.
You didn't show that you can explore the W H O L E city and drive cars and fly around. The level of detail and the size of the city is MINDBLOWING...for just a...Experience, it's not even a game demo...and they did enormous work.
The static assets look really great. Dont character models not so great, they look to stiff. It does look impressive though. I did see another video with a person walking around
no wonder tech demos were immersive when it comes to real time environments cause its immersion breaking when it comes to interacting with one another knowing how demanding the previous UE4 physics tech demo was. UE4 Black wukong would be the 1st playable full pledge tech demo when its sporting all the tech demos throughout when UE4 updates
I can't help but wonder: Why? Why should ALL movies be full CGI? Is it truly worth all the effort and tech resources? I dare say that there will always be people who still want to shoot things with real actors, real sets and real practical effects. CGI works in some stories - The Matrix is a good example. The slightly fake look fits the world and the narrative. But doing every movie full CGI for just the sake of tech... that doesn't make any sense. What about the value in capturing reality instead of always creating a fake one?
@@jcp1984again I'm not advocating for EVERY movie to be made with CG. Which is why I specified /artistically/ so movies like the Matrix could seamlessly pull off something like this, while something that needed to feel grounded could still be filmed traditionally. Think about how much better the Warcraft movie could have looked WITHOUT real people.

The demo allws you to walk and drive aound the entire open world city (about the size of downtown LA) and even lets change stuff like time of day and crowd density in real time

Alright, fine. The graphics here look phenomenal. There are so many shots that just look like it came straight from a real movie. Very impressive. I just hope the whole game isn't an on rail Shooter the whole time and it's more of a 3rd person character action game. But we'll see.

From my experience with Unreal Engine 5, the engine is probably up for it. The question is really the cost of building a whole world to that level of detail. Even scanned assets require a lot of processing. Also, the better and more realistic the graphics, the higher player's expectations will be for characters to move and interact in believable ways. Everything about AAA game-making is expensive and difficult, and it's not just about the engine.
I particular interested with that clothing physic & deformation (look at the T-shirt & suit) & hair physic showcased in the early part. It's insanely good. Will we even get that kind of physic simulation in common games is another matter... Clothing & hair are always two elements that appear very rigid in games, or plague with collision / clipping problems... I do hope to see this is no longer an issue in the future.
The in gameplay graphics is what people want to see, the ingame cut scenes could literally be hd clips from the movie but still not reflect on what the gameplay graphics will look like😝
The girl is really annoying but wow does this look phenomenal aside from the moments of lag. This is a game changer for video games. And what better way to “change the game” than with Unreal Engine + The Matrix
one small detail really drives me crazy their car is roofless and yet their hair sits perfectly still... and many others but the hair is just the last drop
It literally took 3 handgun rounds versus a barrage of fully auto rounds to cause the cars to turn 90 degrees and flip and rotate in a very predictable destruction.
No matter how far we advance in gaming technology, frame rate drops will always be there.
For now. Take what we see here...and go 10 years in to the future. They will be 100% indistinguishable from reality.

This is how the pre rendered videos felt back on the PS2 and PS3, and now they're playable (i know its a tech demo, but we've still come a long way)

It’s not aiming at all. Press the trigger to shoot and move the left stick to switch between targets.

the new character is an mcu biproduct though. really unenjoyable to listen to from the moment she entered.

Unreal 5 is pretty real. I had a bit of a hard time trying to believe it was all CGI.

It's a tech demo and not a full fledged game. It just showcases the capability. The rest is upto the devs who will use the engine.

The girl is really annoying but wow does this look phenomenal aside from the moments of lag. This is a game changer for video games. And what better way to “change the game” than with Unreal Engine + The Matrix

I just flew around looking at all the spots on the map. You can also drive but idk if there's anything else.

one small detail really drives me crazy their car is roofless and yet their hair sits perfectly still... and many others but the hair is just the last drop
It literally took 3 handgun rounds versus a barrage of fully auto rounds to cause the cars to turn 90 degrees and flip and rotate in a very predictable destruction.
I normally don't care at all about graphics, just gameplay, i mostly play indie stuff or 2D games in general, but this one actually impressed me
