I'm not sure if it is supposed to work this way, but since Jim's ability to treat the elder sign as a skull happens when you reveal the token then maybe you can pick an elder sign off of dark prophesy if you do choose to treat it as a skull.

I don’t think your mistake with the Fanatic would have changed the game significantly. Just pretend that Leo took an attack of opportunity to break the locked door and defeated the Fanatic with Survival Knife in the enemy phase.
The game-breaking mistake was putting Storm of Spirits in Leo’s discard pile. You would have crashed AHLCG if it were a video game :p
