Here’s my ranking of all the campaigns (I’ve only played Path to Carcosa)
1. Path to Carcosa
Dang it’s rare to see carcosa be last in a campaign ranking
Just, like, completely unrelated question, but you don't happen to have any interest in putting on a play, do you?
You need to play more
Hey you may have only played Carcosa, but your ranking isn't wrong!
Now rank the Investigator expansions - including the 5 starter decks as a single expression.
Please do this 🙏🏼
My take on the writing in EotE is to play a drinking game with it. Whenever it says “miasma”, drink one drop of alcohol, then die of alcohol poisoning by the end of it.
The most hilarious thing about timing in Insmouth for me was when a Rogue with Obol died in flashback scenario. It looked like his character recollected that he was playing these two scenarios in present being already dead. As though Arkham story is written by Shyamalan :)
Man, that just highlights how silly the structure of Innsmouth is even more.
So sad that this isnt 3 sec longer, so it would be 1:23:45. Nice video though.
You guys are the best. "It's a clean sweep...TSK. Do you want to start Travis?" Travis: "Yeah, this campaign sucks." WORD. You won me over again with this one.
Wow, I am not used to Bryn having the most normal ranking in these videos.
Fun fact: drawing tony's quarry early on in the car chase scenario sequence breaks the scenario and makes it not discard locations so the persuers spawn several counties away
It's been a minute since I've played, but don't all enemies gain hunter in that scenario or am I missing something?
@@PlayingBoardGames perhaps I played it wrong. It was an absolute mess, we finished it on foot
@@flopus7 We did something similarly with the Accursed Follower. He just hung back and then we later realized he should've been hunting us. It's a complicated scenario and I'm still thinking I got something wrong most times I play it.
All enemies get Hunter in that scenario, precisely to avoid what you’re describing
So here's my ranking for the campaigns (didn't played hemlock yet and exclude the core box "campaign")
1. Dream-Eaters
2. Path to Carcosa
3. Forgotten Age
4. Edge of the Earth
5. Dunwich Legacy
6. Innsmouth Conspiracy
7. Circle Undone
8. Scarlett Keys
Lets see where we align then!
Hell yeah. Long list video! Love to see it.
You were almost right with the endings for Hemlock Vale (SPOILERS):
1. The "standard"/bad ending is running from the Vale, you can always select this.
2. The ending you got in the rerun is unlocked by either having Marquez have a plan (aka: play The Longest Night) or having a high relationship with Gideon.
3. The "Save the Vale" ending: Have either William and River make up or have the Peters family reunite.
4. Burn the Vale down: Follow Simeon's story and set the fireworks.
So I have what might be considered a wild take on the Scarlet Keys. The answer is to read more haha. I think this campaign was built with the characters fleshed out in the secrets in scarlet “prequel” book. I think they forgot that most people aren’t going to read this. I read before I played and I enjoyed it bc I desperately wanted to see what happened to these characters. I realize that this is obviously not the right choice for most people but if you want to enjoy TSK, I highly suggest checking out Secrets in Scarlet.
This video def worth the wait! A special shoutout to Travis for initiating the convo comparing and contrasting Lost in Time and Space and Before the Black Throne.
My rankings are most similar to Justin's--
S Tier:
1)The Path to Carcosa
A+ Tier:
2)The Feast of Hemlock Vale
3)The Dream-Eaters
4)The Innsmouth Conspiracy
5)The Forgotten Age
A Tier:
6)Edge of the Earth
7)The Dunwich Legacy
8)The Circle Undone
B Tier:
9)The Scarlet Keys
💯 Carcosa is #1! Love your guys’ take on Arkham!
Great video, just looking to buy my 3rd camping after Dunwich and circle undone
Would you recommend just skipping the Scarlet Keys Campaign and only picking up the associated Investigators box?
I don't think TSK has too much reading (I like reading!), but it DOES have too much reading of an incoherent story. All that text makes you feel like you're in a choose your own adventure where the more you learn, the more it will help you decide where to go and what to do... except nothing actually comes together in any logical way. You can follow what appears to be a series of hints and it's just as likely to lead you to a total dead end or a completely unconnected mystery as it is to a satisfactory conclusion.
what I love in Return to ... Carcosa is the set of cards that goes instead of Ancient Evil. They are brilliantly designed.
They are a bit easier but fun. Honestly I prefer the alternate delusions because I find the base ones slow the game down and suck to track.
Now I want to get a Ranking of Just the final scenarios as best ending.
My true solo / two-handed solo campaign rankings:
1. Innsmouth - I love just about everything. The finale is still easy in solo, but not terribly easy.
2. Dunwich - straightforward fun.
3. Carcosa - best mechanics, I don’t like the story.
4. Scarlet Keys - Most of the common complaints don’t bother me much. My most recent play found an ending I didn’t know existed and it was one of my favorite story moments in AHLCG.
5. Only played once, the “worst” scenarios didn’t seem that bad to me and Threads of Fate didn’t seem that great, but I’ll need more runs to solidify an opinion.
Distant 6. EotE - I actually like the first four scenarios decently well but I have not enjoyed the ending 3 scenarios in any of my runs.
5 is TFA
Surprised to see everyone rank Dunwich Legacy so far down, as that is CONSTANTLY the one everyone I've talked to mention as the next step after getting the base game.
Anyways, if anyone like me just wanted the list and not hear the discussion, here's everyone compiled together:
(spoiler warning for the video, I guess ...)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Bryn, Justin, Travis
1 The Path to Carcosa, The Path to Carcosa, The Path to Carcosa
2The Feast of Hemlock Vale, The Feast of Hemlock Vale, The Forgotten Age
3The Forgotten Age, The Innsmouth Conspiracy, The Innsmouth Conspiracy
4The Dream-Eaters, The Dream-Eaters, The Dream-Eaters
5The Circle Undone, The Forgotten Age, The Circle Undone
6The Dunwich Legacy, Edge of the Earth, The Feast of Hemlock Vale
7The Innsmout Conspiracy, The Dunwich Legacy, The Dunwich Legacy
8Edge of the Earth, The Circle Undone, Edge of the Earth
9 The Scarlet Keys, The Scarlet Keys, The Scarlet Keys
Now if we just combine these into one list, giving points based on position, we end up with this:
1 The Path to Carcosa
2 The Feast of Hemlock Vale
3 The Forgotten Age
4 The Dream-Eaters
5 The Innsmouth Conspiracy
6 The Circle Undone
7 The Dunwich Legacy
8 Edge of the Earth
9 The Scarlet Keys
Thanks for the contribution
The irony of you describing Innsmouth as almost too easy when "A light in the fog" has battered me twice rhis week
I feel this. We brought 3 broken decks so scenario 1 wouldn't body us and we're still fighting for our lives.
Literally sent the group the clip from happy souls where he goes "is this too easy"
I played it three times in a row trying to just reach the final scenario and it felt like I was being dragged across a cheese grater 😅 it's on the bottom of the list for me haha
I have gotten into the fan made stuff recently and surprisingly some are on par with the official release, have you guys think about doing a ranked on the fanmade content
My approach on custom content is instead of ranking, I share what makes certain custom campaigns appealing for players. I don't feel right with the idea of me making a "bottom" custom campaign of all the custom campaigns I've played.
I really do love all of the Arkham Files games, except the LCG. However, I really enjoy listening to you guys talk about it, and I totally appreciate your knowledge on the game. :)
You mention Ice and Death with variable Shelter values. That sounds much better, is there a variant you use? Sounded like it.
My ranking:
(1) The Circle Undone
(2) The Forgotten Age
(3) Hemlock Vale
(4) The Path to Carcosa
(5) Innsmouth Conspiracy
(6) Dunwich Legacy
(7) Edge of the Earth
(8) The Scarlet Keys
(9) Dream-Eaters
What makes TCU your favourite? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone put it at the top spot before.
@@TheShanicpower A few things. First, it's really, really challenging. Second, the scenarios are mechanically interesting. Third, the storyline is vibrant and interesting, especially with 'Return to', which really fleshes out the witches' side of the story. We love playing with the tarot cards. We enjoy the variety of paths you can take. And it makes us want to play with different investigators, just to see how different investigators may affect things. I like TFA for similar reasons - vibrant story, extremely challenging, throws you for a loop with certain scenarios, creating reliably memorable experiences.
Rewatching the video and holy s¨%$. 10:30
I've always just shuffled all of them together and, resolute or not, sent one of them to hell.
And tbh, I really enjoy that tension, probably not gonna change it.
EoTE is easy enough as is anyways.
And hard agree on the bland relashionships, BUT still think it's a great campaign to get RPG players engaged with arkham, as they'll most likely not discover the truth that almost all of them were trying to cozy up on the snow.
NEW DAY
NEW VIDEO
Great video. Now go and rank the Return To boxes 😊
My biggest beef with the last three campaigns was that the opponents felt too similar:
Miasma, Miasma not called Miasma, the Colour, ...
I don’t ever want to see an 8 in the Arkham font ever again
You should include the non official campaigns. Dark Matter, Alice, etc…
Bryn - but you've got the EotE Investigator's expansion for the Sled Dogs, right?
You kind of lost me at thinking EotE ending was “tedious.” I love that campaign and the ending was fantastic.
It really breaks my heart when I read how proud MJ is of TSK and how she considers it to be the crowning achievement of her AH LCG era. :(
I think that’s because of how logistically challenging TSK was to design. But yeah, it’s disappointing that her enthusiasm doesn’t align with the community’s reaction to TSK.
@@halforange1my take is that the TSK campaign was probably much more fun to design then to actually play. Unfortunately the end result us what counts, not the amount of effort put into it, and as big of a fan I am of MJ, I would have kinda expected at least a little humility and self-awareness concerning the cycle's obvious shortcomings, at least in an "it's ambitious, but perhaps not everyone's cup of tea" way.
I do agree with the endings of FoHV... my wife and I played through it twice and we got the same ending (with minor variation based on... things) both times... wish there was a little more guidance as you're doing it on how to get those.
Basicly choose different characters to get on your good side. The preludes will tell you where to find them on each specific day.
A very good video. Now do the same for the stand alone scenarios. 😄
The scarlet keys wouldn’t be as bad if the map specified scenarios vs side stories, and time wouldn’t be too strict
Both the campaign guide and the dossiers point you in the direction where to find the Cotorie members, so I personally don't get this complaint. A more visual indication on the map would be nice and better overall, but I don't think it's ruins the campaign. But I'm also in the camp of not getting why Scarlet keys gets so much hate as it does. Would much rather play it over Dunwich or Dream Eaters.
I like the concept of Scarlet Keys, but there were very few scenarios, too many locations were just a small bit of text and then you kept going, so the world feels less interactive. The final scenario and RNG stuff is pretty terrible, too. If they could take that world map openness and make a good campaign out of it, I would be down to play it through multiple times.
This gets me so excited to play The Feast of Hemlock Vale! Currently playing solo through Scarlet Keys. It's not so bad when you're reading it all by yourself 🙃
Well done for calling out how bad TSK is. A lot of content creators seem too wary of criticising any ahlcg products and it can be tiresome
For things like this it might be better to discuss the cycles as they were released but do not give your exact rating. Just comments like "one of my favorites", or "I don't like this one". Then at the end show the rankings for everyone. That way you don't need to go back and forth and cover the same cycle three times and we can try to guess the ratings as you go along.
Gee… scarlet keys is actually my favorite! 😂
Woah...how????
@@MattCrawley_MusicGreat theme, one of the most replayable campaigns, the coterie is cool and Expose is a good mechanic to give any character something to do during downtime.
It’s not my favourite campaign and it has a lot of flaws, but there’s a lot of good things about it too.
Finished Scarlet Keys for the first time.. first time 3handed with Rex Murphy, Runic Axe.. I mean, Daniella Reyes and Kymani (forget their free 5xp) Jones.. only got 5 of the missions out of the 10.. and only 1 mission left me salty for ticking over before I could do anything.. - there was definitely a couple missions where they seemed to forget some text that as written made the scenario bugged… - like find 4, but only 3 are available - whether that was the intention 🤔
Got DE up next., and 3 handed means I need to build 6 decks - maybe no repeated classes 🤔
That would be a vanilla no upgrades Rune Axe?
@@Chiungalla79 Vanilla it was good., once upgraded though 🫦
@@MikeB-nn4nh
You can't upgrade it on Daniella though... 😉
@@Chiungalla79 😂😱😭

This is one of the major downsides to this investigator: No good late game weapons.
Here's my list with some short notes, hope you appreciate it.
1. Innsmouth - my personal favorite, In Too Deep is the best
2. Hemlock - love the MegaMan structure, excellent return to form for the game
3. Forgotten Age - very challenging, all around fun
4. Carcosa - the best story, not crazy about half of the scenarios
5. Dream Eaters - breezy, fun scenarios with big XP payouts, also cats
6. Edge - has gotten better with time, I've gotten over its shortcomings
7. Dunwich - played it to death, it shows its age and that's OK
8. Circle Undone - truly over it, most scenarios have really annoying aspects I don't care for
9. Scarlet Keys - fails at every aspect of it, way too ambitious for its own good, probably won't ever play it again
How do I find the return to patch notes for dunwich
Probably on Fantasy Flights Dunwich page
The changes we follow are on the Return To scenario cards. Notably, these two which are easy to remember: In Miskatonic Museum, the front text of the agendas is always active. In Where Doom Awaits, you can place the additional locations into play when you discover a clue on the hub locations. Spend the clues when you do that.
