    Dr. Milan has become irreplaceable for me - but not because he’s powerful. My partner and I have taken to calling resources “M&M’s” and Dr. Milan “M&M Daddy” cuz he makes so much money.
    Every time I successfully investigate, we say “thank you Daddy” to Milan. It’s foul and hilarious

    For me the upgraded Lucky Cigarette Case lvl 3 is a priority upgrade for Trish, right after the Lvl 1 Lockpicks. Getting to search the top 4/5 cards of your deck for a card almost every turn is just so strong.

    45:15 I have in fact committed a level 5 Ward of Protection to a test where the extra symbol was necessary...
    (Final Shrivelling attack against a scenario-ending (campaign-ending actually) boss where Grotesque Statue had the autofail covered but could not otherwise beat the highest negatives (3 skulls at -5). The extra symbol on Ward5 exactly allowed the right number of icon commits to guarantee passing the test.)

    Bryn: two players, one has Preston buying clues with Lola and favors, the other is running a mystic (Dexter?) who will fight with spells. The only tests you plan to pass are of a type you can’t commit resourceful to. Is it good? Maybe not, but it meets the challenge you set!

    I'm 12 scenarios into a Minh deck that still has 2x Crack the Case. It's helpful for her super Charismatic companion Yorick to afford his zombie army, and occasionally to play The Necronomicon (5).
    Good video! This fits a niche that newer players might find lots of benefit from.

    In my opinion, you are quite underestimating level 3 LCC. It is so much better than level 0. Maybe not the top priority upgrade after scenario 1, but by mid-campaign, I always rather have it upgraded.
    Let's say, you're using lockpicks (level 1): You sure want to succeed by +2 on a -2 token (standard bag), otherwise you will break them real fast. (It's also easy to do. Investigators with a combined skill of 6, like Sef, just investigate primarily on shroud 2 or lower, Trish can break into shroud 4 without committing.) Now you pull a -1: Eureka! And that's really common. If you pull a +1, you can even search your top 5 cards. That's much better, than just drawing 1 card.
    Now, for example, Arcane Initiate is a card, I put in most Mystic decks and normally keep at level 0. The level 3 version is pure luxury. I purchased her once, but this was at the end of TCU with 77 XP and no idea where else to spend them. But LCC (3) is quite more important.

    Maybe I'm crazy but I don't run with Magnifying Glass in my decks. Unlike big monsters for a blue character, big shrouds are rare and not devastating to miss on. I concentrate on getting clues faster, not easier. Generally clues are easy enough to get for any yellow character.

    So - the issue is that if you aren't able to commit it to the test, there's not in PMP that would have it leave your deck. It doesn't say 'commit it to a test if able or draw it'.
    Search by itself doesn't mean to pull it out of the deck.

      it's the effect at the end of the card! ;) you don't have to commit the practiced card and if you succeed the test you can than draw it! ;)

      @@nicmichaud7868 PMP says you add it to your hand instead of discarding it at the end of the test.
      If you didn't commit it to the test, you wouldn't be discarding it--so you can't add it to your hand *instead* of discarding it.

      Yeah, I’m not sold on the video being correct here. “Instead” instructions imply a replacement, and there’s nothing to replace if the card isn’t committed to the test.

    Great discussion!
    Sorry if I missed you mentioning why, but Dark Horse seems like a glaring omission when it's literally basis of an arch type, surely you wouldn't remove that from a deck if you're playing it.

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  3 года назад +13

      We didn't include Dark Horse because there is no alternative to Dark Horse. With this list, we wanted cards that weren't an archetype but rather could go in multiple decks. Dark Horse stays not because it's better than other choices, but because it's the only choice.

    Been re-watching some older videos ( 👴) and Promise of Power could have only had one wild icon and been something like "After you commit Promise of Power, add 1 curse to the token bag to have it gain 1 wild icon. You may repeat this up to 4 times." Would have had nice Curse generation to help out the Curse spells too. Something Something probably would have been abused in Amanda.
    But in the end, that would just be a janky Level 0 Justify the Means I guess!

    No Elusive? Nimble is similar but still has the caveat of having to pass a test. There is no substitute for elusive, especially with a limited card pool. Thanks for the vids. Keep it up.

    • @PlayingBoardGames

      Non-tabooed Elusive would fit this well, but because we've been playing with the taboo list for so long, Elusive isn't a level 0 card anymore, even though it is again now.

    These are so great!
    Question: When a card says something like "Choose a survivor card," does the class icon need to be present at the top of the card in order to do so, or does it just need to be red (in this case)? I can't figure out what keywords I need to use to search this rule.

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  2 года назад +1

      If it has the class icon on the card, it counts as a survivor card and can be chosen for effects that say choose a survivor card. This matters for something like the multiclass cards.

    • @waltercardcollector
      @waltercardcollector Год назад

      The class icon is in a different place on each card type (asset, event, skill) but if it has the class icon in the appropriate place then it counts. Usually this means it's red (for Survivor cards) or yellow and has multiple class icons.

    I didn't get why you can play the new Practiced skills from EotE with Practice Makes Perfect.
    They don't have symbols while in the Deck and they don't have the clause "Commit to any kind of Test" or something like that, so, what is that "if able" on Practice Makes Perfect making it different?

    • @Worksy
      @Worksy 3 года назад +1

      They're not saying that you can commit those new skills with PMP, just that you can get one of them with it, not commit it, and then put it in your hand if you succeed.
      I can see how it could be interpreted this way, but I'd personally like an official clarification on this. "Instead of discarding" kinda implies to me that you need to commit it to get it back, and what game zone does it go to while the test is happening if you can't commit it? I would have assumed if youre not able to commit it then it would just be one of the "remaining cards" that gets shuffled back. But then I guess the wording should be "search the top 9 cards for a practiced skill that can be committed to this test", so iduno. Strange there isn't already an entry on ArkhamDB for this, it's not like it's a new scenario e.g. PMP during a fight test and only find Deduction

    • @anaphysik
      @anaphysik 3 года назад +1

      They're not saying that the skills will be committed, but rather that they'll be put in hand if the skill test is successful anyway (so not "commit and draw-if-successful" but simply "draw-if-successful"). Personally, I am skeptical of that and would need to see a designer response -- if the card is not committed, then it seems that it should remain where it was, i.e. in the deck, and then become unfindable for the put-in-hand part of the ability.

    • @davidko9289
      @davidko9289 3 года назад +2

      I thought the same. I think the distinction is searching and committing it are two different elements. Commit if able, but whether you do or not you search. The problem is the same with Guided by the Unseen. Searching simply means you look at it. Without the draw or add to hand text, you can Practice Makes Perfect, search for an EotE card that can't be committed, and then shuffle it into the deck since it hasn't been drawn or added to hand.

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  3 года назад +1

      I think clarification would be good. I have the interpretation in this video due to some comments on some other videos, so that's where I'm coming from. I feel like Practice Makes Perfect is already loaded with text, so more detailed text for clarifying is hard to fit in. I can see this being an interpretation of text that doesn't actually do what that interpretation says in terms of the rules, but of what it actually reads.

      @@PlayingBoardGames We need a rules lawyer! Does "After this test ends, if it was successful, add that skill to your hand instead of discarding it." apply only if the card was committed? And does it vary between cards that only have the icons sometimes versus always?
