    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  10 месяцев назад

      Iterative changes are not a bad thing. The 911 has been doing that for decades and it just keeps getting better. The Tarmac SL7 is a great bike, no reason to throw that away, build on it and get more aero, lighter and faster. Exactly what this bike has done.

    Its less aero than any rim brake Tarmac ever because of the pizza cutters and the calipers into the wind. And the extra spokes. It catches the side winds. Its heavier than the rim brake Tarmacs. To change the stem takes hours rsther than a few minutes. The handlebar isnt adjustable.The spokesare uneven on the front. The asymmetric action of the disk has to slow down the hub which then has to slow the spokes which then slows the rim rather than directly slowing the rim from a central and symmetrical point on the bike. The braking system generates torque where you dont want it pulling the forks back but doesn't have as much leverage where you do want it. 140 mm rotors have less distance to effect leverage than a 622 mm rim. I would recommend anyone wanting to buy this bike dont and buy an SL4 or SL5 or any of the rim brake Tarmacs.

    If aero towards the end doesn’t matter according to specialized, how come the TT bikes have aero qualities towards the back? Also how can you say the latest generation emonda is a pure climbing bike when it has pretty much the same aero features and the same compliant rear stays? I don’t believe it bro sorry.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  10 месяцев назад +1

      The Emonda has arrow benefits over a traditional round tube bike, but even Trek's positioning has it focused towards climbing. Trek also has a dedicated aero bike the madone. The specialized tarmac is combining both types of bikes in a way that Trek is not.

    I wouldn't be so salty about the tarmac if it weren't for the fact that it's made in China, and Specialized uses legal kung fu to write "Handmade in Taiwan" or in plain English "Assembled in Taiwan from foreign and domestic parts" to avoid admitting this.
    So we're paying 6-14k for bikes made in China, by workers who make less than 5k a year.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  10 месяцев назад +3

      I'm not going to argue the looks, because I agree it's not ideal. As pointed out in the video, specialized missed an opportunity to use that space in the front end, four cable routing. Instead, they have routed the cables through the headset bearing race similar to the updated SL7 routing.
      So while the speed sniffer is not attractive, it was certainly not used for cable routing.
