    Spesh should do something about the gap between the headtube and the first proprietary spacer. Next to that they should make the spacers a bit longer so it matches/follows the line/flow of the head tube bulge. The thing not really clean looking on the SS Evo is the gap between seat tube and back wheel. But hey both bikes are winners.

    I'm skeptical if anybody can "feel" a bike holding speed over and above another one when their performance is so similar in the first place. Ditto for a bike's ability to accelerate in the same context. Sounds an awful lot like the marketing speak magazines love to use. But I believe he believes it. Also, thanks for the awesome video!

      @GCPerformance18  9 месяцев назад +18

      when it is very flat here and you are in a group rides all the time and riding same roads and have you have no mountains going up or down, all you feel is how the bike maintains speed..... you g et a very good sense to how one bike compared to other bikes hold speed down here, no lie, aero bikes down here are crucial in the group rides, and when you have a good aero bike in a group you feel that effortless cadence effect where you are just spinning your legs and maintaing speed, where if you have a round tube bike or a climbing bike you can feel the more resistance it takes to hold or maintain that speed, I ride the same road same direction and same group rides for over 10 years, you get a good idea of how some bikes compare to to others. I know it sounds very bullshitty but ask any florida riders down south some of the miami blazer guys or whoever you want to reach out to who you think is a credible source for this.

    • @brienmiller1005
      @brienmiller1005 9 месяцев назад +6

      @@GCPerformance18 You want speed on the flats you want deep wheels. Those framesets are a wash for an aero standpoint. Also what is his body position on each bike? Slight differnces matter for both aero and power. And you have different tires at different pressures. What are road surfaces like? Could a rider feel a difference? For sure. But what makes the difference?

    • @jianhuichua1154
      @jianhuichua1154 9 месяцев назад +3

      I used to be very skeptical as well, but switching from a Giant contend to a propel, which having an aero frameset and deep section wheel, at the same route i ride very often, the different is very very huge, but major contribution should be my position > wheel > frameset. But yeah, propel is a way "faster" bike in the comparison.

SL7 did 210 watts. Proper Aero frames do 202-204watts, like Systemsix, Venge, Aeroad, etc. Supersix Evo even looks more aero, in the back part, where the SL8 has zero aero tubing.

      There is a warning when building the sl8 about this and the spacing that you use it's likely they cut the wrong proportion I think you need to keep 10mm below somewhere (possibly above the stem) I know you need to cut below there but not sure if this would cause that. It likely could but perhaps it was something else mentioned as well.
      That's a huge gap though the bike is basically trash now I would just put it in the ocean and let it rust!

  • @timowen5772
    @timowen5772 9 месяцев назад +2

    Great comparison Grant. Thoughts: 7.2kg for SLR8 with all bit - wow that heavy. Q: with their unpainted frame - unless you can ride that without trashing it, what’s the point of giving a weight? May as well quote a weight with only one chain stay.
    Lab 71 - again really heavy…. And it’s not just the wheels. Put proper climbing wheels on and we are still not a 6.8kg
    Looks - Lab 71 frame is far cooler and distinctive. Too tube and dropped seat stays are neat.

    Interesting that Roland's subjective impressions are pretty much the opposite of how Tour magazine's testing characterized the relative strengths and weaknesses of these two bikes. They found the Tarmac to be stiffer (so presumably quicker off the line), while the SSE was more aero (so presumably would hold speed better). Sounds like these are two of the best (and maybe the two very best) all-around race bikes on the market, however, and most folks would be very pleased with either.

For whatever reason you chose a bike carbon is not a forever bike material unless you don't ride it, even then the glue that holds it al together will degrade and lose it's properties and become brittle. Glue is glue this much I know. My Titanium bike is a forever bike and can be ridden everyday of my life and only cost me $11,000. Such bad reviews and NOT great information from the owner. The info is exactly what you were expecting which makes me suspicious he is just repeating what he heard. I mean really with all that money and modification all he can come up with to describe the rides are one keeps up with the bunch better the other keeps up with the bunch better when people are trying to go faster and out of the saddle. Oh and one is more comfortable but it's likely just because of the tire depth and psi difference. Such crap! You have $30k+ in bicycles there ride them for real and provide some actual analysis. How do they handle? How do they brake and slow down? How do they handle road surfaces? Higher rpm? Which is more stable? Which feels lighter beyond the 1lb difference? How do they climb descend and draft and sprint and perform over longer rides? I mean that is just some REALLY BASIC info
    That is missing coming from a very amateur cyclist but I'm confident there are many details that I cannot think of that I would notice to mention if I were able to ride both bikes. Oh yea and the most relevant and most important thing you could
    Have provided is the fit and your body type. How long are your legs arms torso compared to an average rider and how does the bike feel how do you have the bikes set up and what role does the set up play in the performance of the bike? How does the bike feel from
    Different positions? Which is more comfortable from the drops? Which is more STABLE from the Drops!?
    This video had a wonderful
    Opportunity to be information and for anyone with a brain it wasn't it was just a couple really cool completely custom expensive bicycles that most people in the world will never ride or afford so do everyone a favor and ACTUALLY EXPLAIN something intelligent. (I do have a bike just like this custom
    Sl8 I almost built a lab 71 that was top on my list I switched at the last minute but I can tell you - nothing you mentioned really would have been anything I would have considered when buying either. this is the owner of the bikes opinion, this is how he said it rides, maybe what he values doesn't matter to what you value, he does not race, he just has the funds to buy high end stuff, should he be penalized or not be able to buy these bikes because he isn't racing? no he just rides bikes for fun and likes to spend money on bikes instead of other things. also he is not a reviewer or a public speaker, He might of wanted to said more but only said what we he said in the moment
