I bought a used S5 as a bridge bike while i waited for a 2023 madone to arrive. Before the arrival i loved the S5 so much that i was torn when the madone came closer to arriving. Ultimately i kept the S5 due to my new madone was too small even though all sales people said a 54 was the right size, the seat mast was jist too small.
Im a winner either way cause the S5 is amazing

I purchased the new Trek Madone in the SLR7 variant, but upgraded to Shimano Dura-Ace di2. Shod the bike with 30mm tires. The tire change makes the ride quality comfy (for a race bike). I turn 55 this year and can easily be on the bike for 4-5 hours. Sure, for a non-pro cyclist, the bike is pure overkill. BUT, it is noticeably faster than the bike it replaced (Time Skylon) and I have the data that shows this.

Guys most of the “handling” and “feeling” of the bike attributes are heavily effected by the tyre. You compare the S5 on and effective 30mm tyre v the Trek on a narrow tyre and say it is more comfortable- this is the tyre! Why don’t you eliminate this by having a control tyre so this eliminates a variance that can be cheaply (and often is) swapped out as soon as you get the bike home. Also which other bikes are you comparing these against? Seems a small pool on the surface…

Ah Cervèlo and its ultimate ownership experience that starts with squeaky for and goes all the way to BB that just fell apart. The number of QC issues makes it look like it was assembled in a sweatshop. The brand refuses direct contact with the customer and tells the dealer to just take the broken BB out and put it back in. If the issue will repeat within a year (which is likely) then I’ll need to fix it outside the warranty. Keep in mind that we are talking about BB aka last thing on a road bike that can/should fail…

This bike was really easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
