      I am living in germany for about 6 years now and working with mostly german colleagues.
      I went back to Australia for the first time and my family noticed how I had been affected, not in the pronounciation of words but the order and usage of words.
      "I will get the beer" became "I get the beer".

      From an Aussie. It is not so easy to drop an acquired accent. It happens over time, just like picking up a foreign accent takes time. In many cases the individual does not realise their accent has changed. As an Aussie when I relocated to Europe I had to slow my speech and adopt international English pronunciation to be understood. Many of the Americans I met whilst living in Europe went through the same process.

    • @elchasai
      @elchasai 11 месяцев назад

      @@laurencetilley9194 Right, understood, which really is my point. I have been through this as well, I'm almost a natural mimic, but to really slip into it is a deliberate act over a long period of time, when I would come home, the accent would be parked at the door. I dont know, I will never shake my natal accent in truth, and only adorn others in order to be understood or have an easier go of things around others.

      The professional golfer David Graham had an awful blended Texan accent overlaid on his Oz manner of speaking. Sorry David. But Mason has Oz overlaid on his Texan accent. He is moving towards the Oz side. Mason also has battled a number of eye injuries similar to my own so I know what he has gone through. All credit to Mason; with a bit more confidence that big frame and long arms of his will be unstoppable.

    Had no idea that Footy was played in the US, and had a week-long round such as this. It can be a very bonding game for communities.
    Mason was very generous in his remarks here. His journey has had some big challenges in Aust., the worst from my view was his eye injury, and a lot of the anti-American abuse through the media and from fans. It makes his achievement even greater, and it seems with his skills, maturity and perspective, he would make a fine AFL coach, whether in Aust or the US.
    (A young man has just joined our family, and his biggest fear of meeting us in the West was that we would be “Collingwood Haters”. We laughed with relief that he wasn’t an WC Eagles fan. We are all Freo Dockers. Yes, it gets very tribal here, you are much more civilised).

    Our game is WAY to good to be kept to ourselves.

      @dragonoftheeast695 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Robert-yi3jz fair point. I think that would be an issue if you were starting a major league from scratch in the US.
      But if you do the grass roots (AUSKICK) approach for a decade or so, just use whatever field is available no matter the dimensions, get kids playing, make sure they have fun, and that will grow and grow.
      It’s basically how the sport grew back home in OZ 160years ago.. there was no stopping it.
      All I’m suggesting is that we do the same in other regions around the world..
      but it’s patience we have to employ..
      trying to broadcast and play exhibition games around the world since the 80s didn’t really work as well as we would of liked.
      So a new approach is needed.. 👍
