Approx 25 years ago, a young Canadian boy spent 12 months living with a local family, during a school exchange experience. I live in a small country town in northern Victoria (Australia), the young Canadian boy had grown up playing rugby, but it was quite a distance to get to the nearest rugby club. The family he was living with played Aussie rules at our local club, so this young Canadian decided he would give it a try. He fell in love with the sport!! So much so, when he returned to Canada, he found the nearest Aussie rules football club. Several years later he returned to Australia to represent Canada in the international cup at the MCG, which I think he did on several occasions. One thing that makes me proud about our great sport, is how much of an effect it can have on those when they discover it. The greatest sport on earth!!!
I've only just learned more about AFL than just its mere existence in Australia and honestly, what's not to like? For us American footballers, there is simply no reason not to love this game as well
as an Australian i love the passion some Americans have for our football, and i find it incredible USAFL has lasted 25 years already. Keep up the great effort!
It’s cool to hear the mix of commentators. Some pure American accents, some pure Aussie accents, and then a few Aussies with a bit of American creeping in and a few Americans with the little Aussie influence

I am just an ordinary Australian. And I say congratulations USAFL for the last 25 years of hard work & dedication to a great game called "Aussie Rules" football. You are collectively the vanguard in the building of a sport that will one day be the dominant football game in America, and the world.
Ok let's not go overboard, it will never be huge in the USA or the world, the main reason is other countries have their own football, but I am sure it can get a bit more well known that it is now.
This is brilliant. I can't understand why the AFL can't give you $1,000,000 to grow the game and then have a national team which could play Australia's best. That would be a hell of a game.
They would still be a long way off standard wise, the first thing I notice is they drop the ball from too high. Not their fault but us Aussies grow up with a football in our hands. We hone those skills from the moment we walk. I kicked a plastic footy around the yard at 3. From what I have seen most local suburban clubs would convincingly beat the best US teams at the moment. They certainly have come a long way in 25 years though and will get better as more people play.

As a local, i loved the AFL World Cup that took place in Melbourne about 4 years ago... I know many Australians loved it also, though it deserved more promotion. I hope the AFL are planning the next one.
@@garynewton1263 well it's not really that big compared to other world cups. Also It's more of a developing nations cup than world cup. By developing nations I mean the sport is in its development stages in these countries. What's the point of putting full-time professional against teams made up of weekend park players from other countries.
This is awesome, I think we take it for granted here in Australia that we can join a football club as a tacker at 5 or 6 and play with that same club until we are in our late 30's. That opportunity doesn't seem to exist in the US as after they finish college sport they seem to give some sports away. I played from 7 years old in 1973 until 2000 and then took up assistant coaching and coaching roles and I love the game. It is the best kept secret in the world and its great that others are now seeing that.
Glad to been part of the ride... Got to start the initial team in Phoenix with what we called the Phoenix Fury back in like 1996 or 1997 (By the way thank you so much Paul O'Keefe.who sent us VHF tapes and a few Footies to practice with way back then).... then Andrew Ashworth got sponsership with the Scorpians so we became the Phoenix Scorpians.... then we Became the Arizona Hawks!!! And Still Kicking it :) Remember a game we played against the Denver Bulldogs in Tempe and they destroyed us.... but it was so much fun, and the Boat race at the bar afterwards.... priceless. Congrats on growing the game to all the people in the US from players, to organizers and especially to the families for all the sacrifice and joy that they have brought!!!

I am Australian.In 2001 I went and played a season in Toronto.Think they had about 8 teams in the league,absolutely loved it over there playing footy.Had every intention of playing in the USA the next yrear,even flew down to Denver and San Fransisco to speak to some teams and organise stuff if I was to come back to North America...9/11 happened while I was in Toronto towards the end of the season and pretty much killed my plans,was 33 at the time so getting on to keep playing but really regret not going back over now
I hope one day the USAFL can compete with AFL and AFLW clubs in preseason exhibition matches. Cheers on you guys for spreading the great game around the world ❤
I’ve know about USAFL for around about 16 years or so? I was pretty surprised because I’m an Aussie and I play for my local club in the GFL league, it’s a great game! Edit: I love that you incorporated the hand shake at end, that’s what footy is all about no matter the outcome it’s just a fun game and everyone’s mates at the end 👍
Genuinely impressive and done exactly the right way, from the ground up through the community, and from an Australian i was quite impressed with the young lad with the ponytail, some very impressive football movements from him.

What I hate about the Australian Football League is that they have taught everyone to call our great game AFL. It's not. It's called Australian Rules Football (Aussie Rules). Great to see that the guys on this upload are calling it that. The AFL itself is only the name of the division, which is contested by the most elite players. You don't find people calling the game of basketball NBL, do you? Or other codes of football EPL or NFL etc? In effect through their marketing the AFL have almost trademarked the name of the game. Here in Australia kids now say "I play AFL". No you don't kid. You play Aussie Rules. Just like I did. AFL players are the best of the best.
Nah, we play footy. The thubgyists in the northern states play "throwy" but also call it footy so the distinction between afl and nrl is made for gambling company purposes, l believe.

Rugby and football (soccer) spread world wide and I think was accepted more readily because it was not named "English football". Too many competing sports already call themselves "football", footy is unique to 1 game only and would be best marketed as such, IMO.

They won't, be anything close to competitive, but perhaps they could recruit the odd stand out player for state leagues etc in Aus.
USA vs Collingwood at the MCG would be doable... USA would end up with 90 thousand cheering just because they're not Collingwood.
