I can comfortably use all the manual controls on my old Nikon D5200. Sometimes i struggle to get a clear focus. I suppose that is due to shaky hands and myopic eyes.
Manual audio on my Canon M50 with a Rode VideoMicro. Plus, wondering if I should go with a larger shotgun mic and boom kit instead. Great video as always Jeven! Most I’ve learned from 1 video in a long time! 👍
Thanks for this series Jeven. This will not only be helpful for those who are just starting but also a refreshing course for others. I would really appreciate if you could explain metering modes for all situations.
Good tips ! There is nothing more important than to be familiar with the basics. Without that rudimentary knowledge, you will never produce quality material. Thank you for reminding it to us !
This is such a great video with instructions and examples at just the right level -- not nerdy, but also not talking down to the audience. I'd love to see a video with tips for filming cooking (especially when you're both the cameraman and the cook).
This was hands down the best all in one explanation I have seen on manual settings. I have always used some combination of manual settings but I’m really going to make a push to go full manual whenever possible. Thanks as always for the high quality and informative content!
This is great information. I was shooting a video and I was blurry against the background and I was in auto mode. But what I really needed was to lower my apature to get me in focus etc . Great info practice practice practice
Dude, I am literally uploading a similar video RIGHT now, from a RUclips beginners perspective. I could have used this 3 days ago!! Nice work as always!
I understand how these things work but every time I look at videos like this make my brain happy. Love in the info and so stoked see youtubers collab. It just brings the community together :) and provide good super useful and inspiring knowledge
Two awesome creators right here! Woot! Love the Collab, I knew all this stuff but got to support my bro’s! True info here and cool series! It all comes down to learning what works for your camera that last tip was great practice makes perfect!
Wow! What a team, and great examples. Between these videos and Creator Film School, I'm learning and practicing basics like you outlined in this video. Thank You!
Thanks for the lesson, as a beginner, all your tutorials are very helpful. I’ve been creating some travel content and this video right here is exactly what I’ve been needing to work on. My last video the begging had that auto focus issue where it went in and out, extremely distracting!! Thanks again🤙🏼
A month ago, I started my youtube fitness channel. Your videos have helped me a lot, Jeven. Thank you for all this content and for how well they are explained. Awesome!
I have an Eos m50. I have been trying to figure out how to film using the aperture priority. Do you know if that is even possible or how it can be done?
Hey Jeven, with external mics whether its connected to your phone or camera etc do you always need the mic cat cover on there and does it matter which way the mics pointing?
Although I'm a long time manual shooter I found a few helpful tips. While I understand the term Noise I wonder if someone who is a complete novice or is not familiar with the term would know exactly what it is.
Totally botched a client video the other night when I didn’t pay attention to shutter speed and shot in super low light. Lol, I look like a ghost as I wisp around the truck I was shooting 🤦♂️
Good job explaining some basics. I'd only suggest a few graphics explaining DoF and aperture. IMO the way you presented it is a little abstract for some. Also, your f 1.7 on the GH5 has a wider DoF than then same 1.7 would be on the S1---where you wouldn't have nearly the freedom of movement and remain in critical focus---I think that's worth noting at some point. Not trying to be critical, just trying to put myself in the place of a novice video shooter. This IS an important video for a lot of video shooters. If you don't shoot fully manual and MF you'll never have control of you video to achieve the look you want.
Agreed but with all these topics we could have gone much deeper. The goal with this video was to hit creators on a basic level so that they could start understanding the principles and not be flooded with too much info at once.
@@JevenDovey The distinction between sensor size/same aperture/DocF (depth of critical focus) may be a bit much. But just the visual of a basic drawing or two comparing the change in DoF with change of aperture would have been, IMO, clarificational rather than throwing in a further complication. I agree with keeping things as basic and simple as possible. The thing I REALLY like is your distinction of Critical focus...ergo, my addition of a "c" in the standard abbreviation. In your experience (as well as mine) I'm sure there is "focus" and then there's "critical focus." Mere "focus" is substandard. Video shooters of all stripes ought to learn to make that critical distinction. But I'm curious as to why you failed to discuss peaking as a primary focus tool---but maybe you'll do that later?? Obviously, on some cameras peaking is a more valuable and valid tool than on others---Sony, I'm looking at you.
Im Sorry to ‘spam’ this particular video brother, but i posted a question on an older vid and just wanted to secure the answer as i am quite impatient hahah. Question is about ads. Is there a website, that is a melting pot of companies and products, from where you choose what ads to feature on your channel? I only want ads that has value to others, so whats that specific process?
Depends on what I'm shooting. For light weight I use the Peak Design minimal one. For a solid video tripod I use an E-Image one. Check out all the details in my kit. kit.co/jevendovey
Jeven Dovey gosh I want that lite peak design one but Dang $$$ I found a practically new Manfrotto 501 fluidhead and Tripod for like nothing at a school system surplus warehouse.
What are you struggling with most on your camera?
I can comfortably use all the manual controls on my old Nikon D5200. Sometimes i struggle to get a clear focus. I suppose that is due to shaky hands and myopic eyes.
Jeven Dovey smooth camera movement without a Gimbal.

I would say Manuel Focus on a small screen 😂
WOOOOO! This is gonna be a great series!!

This is EXACTLY the tutorial series I need at EXACTLY the right time. Thanks Devon!

Excellent explanations with clear demonstrations, I see stuff like this all the time for photography, but not cinematography.

Just focus on one element and master it. Over time you'll be able to know when to use Auto and when to use Manual for all these settings
Jeven Dovey will do, thank you & please keep your videos coming! Looking forward to part 2
Wow why are the views so low on this, it's super helpful.

advice for bmpcc4k being your first camera?
Can you adjust this on smartphones?because I use my phone for my videos
Hey Jeven, with external mics whether its connected to your phone or camera etc do you always need the mic cat cover on there and does it matter which way the mics pointing?
So Prison Break used Tungsten because there's always a bluish hue. Wow! I learn something new everyday.

That sucks. We all make mistakes. I've done that in the past for sure.
How do I know wich cameras offers manual control in video?
What is the fuzzy thing on the top?

I can’t figure out how to shoot videos with my manual settings. It seems my camera will only take pictures in M?
what do i do if i have to shoot at random things with completely different lighting situations, like indoor, streets and skies????

I built it
one must master the basics before buying more expensive equipment
Photo gives typical ape rapture e.g 2.8 but video gives reading in dB e.g 18 dB in Panasonic video 995

Its not easy to use manual focus with my ronin sc and gh4 in 😂😅
I think Sidney just created a new word and didn't even know it @ 4:35 "Emotion Blur" lol It's when you ruin your story with the wrong shutter speed!!!
