Such a powerful song, especially in the movie. The footage of a young Andy on home movies. Heartbreaking. Everyone was a child, had a mum and dad etc Tragic..
Me too. I remember crying uncontrollably for a long time after hearing this song. I still tear up when I hear it. My brother died of AIDS and everytime I hear this song, I associate it with his life. I love ya Clinton.
My friend was buried to this song on Wednesday...it's impossible to understand how beautiful a song can be until your friend decides to leave the physical world to it. This song will forever be in my heart.
This is the only song that makes me cry every time I hear it. I see the end of the movie where a video is playing. The parents and children, well, just being a family. And, oh, the little boy. Just being a little boy, so free, so innocent, such love.
The final home video scene alone, with this amazing song in the background, was worth every Oscar the movie won back then. It's 16 years, and yet it still moves me deeply.
I still don't understand how Bruce got the Oscar. I love Bruce, but Neil really nailed the essence of this movie. This song and the movie are joined at the waist.
I was born and raised in West Philadelphia, and I am proud. This is one of my most favorite songs of all times. Always makes me smile and think of old friends who I miss very much. Philadelphia is one hell of a place.
Saddest song ever? I've not heard sadder. I think this song was robbed for 1994's best song oscar. Springsteen's song was good, but this is really, really special.
You sometimes just have to shake your head and wonder how on earth a human can produce something as beautiful as this. If you're not moved to do something after listening to this track, then you're simply devoid of humanity.
"we are all still children, forced to grow up, like all dreams you ever had are made to be fergotten as you grow older. Inside we are all scared indivduals that want looking after" That definitely hits it.
Neil Young is very underrated. I have seen him 8 different times, dating back to the early 80's, and every time was a wonderful yet completely different experience. With Shocking Pinks, International Harvesters, Crazy Horse, The Blue Notes, Alone, w/ an Orchestra, etc. etc.
i like the part "Don't turn your back on me I don't want to be alone Love last forever" because i'm sure that how many person who are terminally ill feel with no family to be with them on they're last days.
this is the song of the movie. period. awesome ... Neil, we love you and so appreciate your contribution, not only here, but in all of music. it does not get any better than you, my Beloved friend ...
Every time I listen to this, I start crying! His voice is not even perfect, but just the way he sings it, it's touching! I don't think any singer can pull off a cover version of this. It's impossible.
this song tears my heart on million parts...its so beautiful although its sooo sad...when i watched the Philadelphia movie i couldnt stop crying in the end of the movie... well done Neil :(
Undeniably haunting. You can feel the emotion drip from every lyric, chord and note. Young soaks us in a power so strong one cannot fail to be moved. The strength of this music cuts right through me yet despite its apparent sadness I find it strangely uplifting and positive. Is that just me ?
the entire movie hooked my mind but it is the last scene which held my heart...i almost cry...almost... the small, healthy little boy---so pure and innocent.
i was watching this with my gf and i thought i was gonna make it through the movie without shedding any tears, then the funeral scene came at the end and this song played, and i couldn't hold them in any longer
This song makes me want to be a better human and love stronger And most of all makes me feel so lucky to be alive on this incredibly beautiful earth with all of you! I mean really did one of us really make a song sound so ________(no words to describe.)
this movie is a masterpiece. its horrible to see a healthy young man whose life went away. but... people are often blind and think: my life is so terrible! the role of andy beckett had an unnecessary terrible experience and he payed for it. a life is wonderful and full of opportunities. dont hate, love!
Bruce and Neil were both nominated for Best Song for this movie. When Bruce won the Oscar, he almost wanted to give it to Neil. Both great songs, one great movie.
the entire movie hooked my mind but it is the last scene which held my heart...i almost cry...almost... the small, healthy little boy---so pure and innocent. Life indeed is so short. A season for everything: of youth and old age; of health and sickness, of birth and death.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO LOVE THIS SONG !! What a wonderful music...even if this song is sad and brings tears form your eyes... or maybe also for this reason...
This is the only song that makes me cry every time. It really is a male song, I know some female artists have covered it but it reminds me of being a boy and how I cant get those days back,
There's not another song that touches my soul as much as this one, in all my years of listening to music, nothing touches this track for evoking sentimental feelings.
My spine is in bits listening to this song due to the ridiculous amount of shivres its giving me. The piano fills between verses are as moving as the lyrics.
Aww, this song is so sad to me, it makes me tear a bit. Love to Neil Young for singing it and to the actors in Philadelphia for making it so touching...
the entire movie, Philadelphia had my mind hooked on it but when the movie got to the last part which this song is being played, my heart went out to that once little, healthy boy...this is I think the most moving part of the film. Life indeed is so short. Everything has a season. of youth and old age, of health and illness,of birth and of death.
THANK YOU for this song. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE PHILADELPHIA, the movie. Never fails to make me cry everytime I watch it and that's easily more than 10 times. The ending still gets me in tears, and a lot of it has to do with this song. This was one song which was made for the closing scene in Philadelphia. Beautiful work from Jonathan Demme, Tom Hanks and Denzel (as always:)
what a moving song...hard not to get choked up listening to this....classic neil young...one of a kind haunting voice...this is why neil young is one of the all time great composers and performers....thank you so much for posting this.
This is just such a beautiful piece of music. It brings back the memories of my father, i find myself drifting away, 9 long years now. Thank you for this.
Agreed. Both are beautiful, incredible, and heartbreaking songs... but Neil almost, if not actually, brings you to tears. Love Neil. Love Bruce. Can't recall two better songs ever being on the same soundtrack or academy award ballot.
nepheshangel, I'm a woman. I remember Neil Young as a soloist, and also at the same time with CS&N. Love the fist CSN album when they were so, so young. The songs were nothing we had ever heard before, rock combined with a little folk, and the harmonies, such beauty. I love "Old Man"," Harvest Moon", "Southern Man", I love most of his stuff, but they're my favorites.
a good friend of mine suffering from aids came to me and said:"promise me that this song is going to be played at my funeral" i can't tell which emotions come with that song, it's incredible
Tell me I'm not to blame... I won't be ashamed of love.
Gives me chills every time.

Incredible song ... I love Bruce, but THIS should have won the Grammy ....
one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
This is the only song that makes me cry every time I hear it. I see the end of the movie where a video is playing. The parents and children, well, just being a family. And, oh, the little boy. Just being a little boy, so free, so innocent, such love.

I could loop this song over and over and literally not get tired of it.

Tear up when this plays over the home video at the end of the movie.
my grandmother is dying... this track really kills me right now...
god bless ur soul grandma......
This song always gets me choked up. One of the few songs that moves me to tears.
"we are all still children, forced to grow up, like all dreams you ever had are made to be fergotten as you grow older. Inside we are all scared indivduals that want looking after"

where is the oscar for this masterpiece?
If this song does not move you, then you may not be alive. Brilliant.
i like the part "Don't turn your back on me I don't want to be alone Love last forever" because i'm sure that how many person who are terminally ill feel with no family to be with them on they're last days.
I can't listen to this, it just rips my guts apart. I think of all the people I knew who are dead then I think of them as kids,
No one can perform this in Neil's inimitable way. Well done.
this is the song of the movie. period. awesome ... Neil, we love you and so appreciate your contribution, not only here, but in all of music. it does not get any better than you, my Beloved friend ...
This song makes me cry. It makes me think about this so beautiful film...
PHILADELPHIA
the most saddest and beautiful song about love
Neil Young did a excellent job with this song it makes me want to cry
Every time I listen to this, I start crying! His voice is not even perfect, but just the way he sings it, it's touching! I don't think any singer can pull off a cover version of this. It's impossible.
this song haunts me. it sends chills up my spine and always brings tears to my eyes. neil young is a living legend.
Saw this movie years ago, and this song has stuck with me since. Beautiful movie, haunting song. Tom Hanks and Denzel were brilliant.
This song did the same for me about my father who passed 8 months ago from cancer. Music helps us to deal. And life isn't fair.. Be well
this song tears my heart on million parts...its so beautiful although its sooo sad...when i watched the Philadelphia movie i couldnt stop crying in the end of the movie... well done Neil :(

This version has so much soul.

I live in Philadelphia, i saw it like 10 times
I left the radio on while I slept and was woken up by this song. Was awesome.
the entire movie hooked my mind but it is the last scene which held my heart...i almost cry...almost...
the small, healthy little boy---so pure and innocent.
Life indeed is so short. A season for everything: of youth and old age; of health and sickness, of birth and death.
This is one of Neil Young's most gorgeous melodies, one of his best songs.
And yes the city of brotherly love is spoken of so poetically.
This song deserved the Oscar that it was so wrongly robbed of.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO LOVE THIS SONG !!
What a wonderful music...even if this song is sad and brings tears form your eyes... or maybe also for this reason...
Masterpiece... one of many by Neil
I love, adore this song. Epic Neil Young. I've been folllowing him since 1969, Forty years. Pure bliss.
This is the only song that makes me cry every time. It really is a male song, I know some female artists have covered it but it reminds me of being a boy and how I cant get those days back,
Beautiful song for a beautiful movie.
i can't stop listen this Song... it's incredible amazing
There's not another song that touches my soul as much as this one, in all my years of listening to music, nothing touches this track for evoking sentimental feelings.
If you don't weep on this one..you have no soul. ..Master piece.
My spine is in bits listening to this song due to the ridiculous amount of shivres its giving me. The piano fills between verses are as moving as the lyrics.
Must rank with Samuel Barber's 'Adagio For Strings' as the most touching piece of music ever written.
i cry everytime at the end of the movie... this song is so touching

Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington were the best in this film, and this song at the end was a very powerful song. I love it.
